It has to be inaccurate because on no planet is a women 10 inches shorter then me and 50 pounds lighter only has a BMR 200 calories less then me.0

Just eat a couple of bananas. That's 200 cal right there.0

smh ... :noway:
I'm just writing to tag this so I can respond once my brain fuses back together. It blew up after the BMR issue.:explode: ... I can post 100's of online calculators that women will need to fix, but I can already tell, new profile (July) and only 4 posts.... I can make assumptions here....0 -

Just so I got this.. You are 5'10 140lbs and have a BMR of 1650?? So if you even move you burn more than 1650.. And your at a caloric deficit of 950??? Do you eat back exercise cals? And have you ever studied scientifically how our bodies work? I don't think you realize how our bodies work. I hope you NEVER give advice to someone again, because you are offering DANGEROUS advice. I never give someone advice and I read and read the science of our bodies to do this not only efficiently but so it will last and improve overall health now and in the future. I give people links so they can read and obtain the same knowledge as me. So stop giving **** advice and just send them the **** links so they can make a decision if they like your ****.0 -
According to the Mayo Clinic calorie calculator that I shared above:
70 year old female, 4'0" weighing 50 pounds with an inactive lifestyle should consume approximately 900 calories per day.
So there you have it: *some people* only need 900 calories per day.0 -
Meal timing doesn't matter. Eat what you want if you're hitting nutritional goals.0

Im in the same boat just started today and my goal was the same until I did the online calculator which only changed it to 1245 daily. My goal is to loose 20lbs and today I was way under my calories by like 400ish! Just goes to show how much damage we can do to our bodies with out realizing it! I truly dont' understand much of this because one calculator (BMR) will say 1512 and the other said 1245! So until I love the 20lbs I'll stick with the 1245...then take it from there. I just ate a tbs of peanut butter and still haven't reach my goal! done eating for today! tomorrow is another day to make it better...good luck tomorrow0

I am having a hard meeting my goal in general. Yes I could easily go over, if I wanted to. I did on Saturday just by eating a ginormous plate of nachos. I could have had A&W tonight with my family, but I want to lose weight. So yes, I need help eating MORE healthy calories. I don't want to eat the junk just to meet my goal. Oh and I absolutely detest nuts of any kind, so that makes it harder So Should I try to cram the rest of my calories in at the end of the day? I am going to try to have a bigger breakfast tomorrow...
If you need to eat food you consider "unhealthy" to meet your calorie goal then do so.
Nutrients are just nutrients. No food is inherently bad, unhealthy, or fattening. Eat whatever you like. Cheese, sausage, Doritos, toast with butter, whatever.
Also, I had a look at your diary. You need to get more protein. Eat some meat.0 -

Why were you ever bigger in the first place?
it doesnt make sense.

I agree. For some reason they get this thought stuck in their head that they have to eat nothing but salads and quinoa to be "healthy".0 -
I have MFP set to 1200 cal. and I am pretty consistently going over, I am daily maybe as high as 1400 cal per day. I am having a couple of smoothies daily and those alone are shown at about 600 cal for the two of them. I am not really worried .. as maybe 1200 is just a little low. All I know is that I was probably doing 2000 cal per day before .. so I think I am doing better now.
I had a big problem with junk food .. something I have managed to avoid now. It is tough at times .. but I think that I can go junk food free.0 -

Right because there is no possible way that reducing the amount you were eating (simply because it was in front of you) , down to the amount you should be eating, could cut your calories that much. Like never having a doggy bag at a restaurant to having over half your plate to take home can't possible be the reason why. Instead of eating 3 chicken breasts, because they were there, not because you were hungry, only eating one and a nice salad could possibly cut your calories that much. Replacing McDonald with homemade hamburgers couldn't possibly cut your calories that much.

Breakfast is awesome for planning your energy for the day. I like to start with cut oats and cottage cheese, fairly often a spoon full of blackstrap molasses on them as well for the ton of minerals and little bit of sweetness it has. Do it right after a good morning workout and according to the latest Bro' research the protein from the cheese and the sugar from the molasses goes more or less straight back to the muscles you worked. The oats give me something to burn for the whole morning (whole oats are pretty much the poster child for _complex_ carbs), and I have already had a healthy chunk of the fiber, protein, and minerals that I should for the day. If you need more calories or fiber or sweetness, add some chopped fruit.
Of course, you may find a different preference in the morning, but the fiber/ protein/ carbs combination seems to help me start the day right, and really helped me when I had the "I need to eat how much more... really???" question.
(Edited to to lampshade a process I'm not going to look up references for, because it's secondary to the point. The point: a nice breakfast is an easy way to pre-correct whatever imbalances you usually develop later in the day.)0 -

1200 calories is really low for a woman, I can't imagine a man getting by on so little. You really need more. More than 1400 too.
My guess is that you told MFP you want to lose 2 lbs per week even though you don't have much to lose. 1200 is just as low as it will go.

That would be the opposite of healthy.
If you haven't gone through it, and have nothing helpful to say then you shouldn't comment. Just because you have no problem eating however many calories you are aiming too, does not mean it's easy for everyone. A friend of mine decide to "try this healthy eating thing" as she put it. She stopped eating all the junk foods.. and didn't change anything else. she was eating 800 calories a day. Because she ate healthy and then topped it off with ice cream and candy etc.. all day long. She had to learn how to snack healthy. Giving real advice on what to eat is helpful. Saying "Well how did you get fat" or "eat more" is not.
ETA: i agree with the breakfast comment above. I cant' really eat breakfast in the morning it makes me feel bad, but I can drink a smoothie and that helped me tremendously in getting my calories up.0 -

No, ti would not. There is no reason in the world to say this. It's completely meaningless, nonsensical, and baseless.0 -

I think you are Confuzzled about nutrition.0 -

I think you could fit the McDonald's into your diet to hit your daily caloric goal, and still be fine.
I think where people say it is "unhealthy" to do so is the fact that the body can not use those processed foods to the best of its ability.
What would be the better option for me over the long haul?
Eating a Big Mac, Fries and Coke for lunch?
Or getting similar amount of calories from whole foods? (veggies, swt potato, chkn breast/fish/steak)
I can be on a 2,000 calorie diet.
But if I consumed all day every day, 2000 calories from doughnuts, candy, and other junk......
Will I lose weight? Probably if I am in a caloric deficit.
Will I be healthy over the long run? Most likely not. I have starved my body of vitamins and nutrients that it needs to repair muscles, and other cells within the body.0 -
Do I cram the rest of the calories in at the end of the day? Or is it better to eat more calories in the morning? What can I eat to boost calories without eating the junk that I crave?
It doesn't matter when you eat your calories. Morning, noon, night, whenever you are hungry.
For the junk you crave...what is it? Is it so bad that you can't have some if you really want it?
Will you go the rest of your life depriving yourself of this food? If not, then eat it now. Start eating NOW in a way that you can be eating a year from now, 10 years from now. Think long term.
Now this is good advice and something I am going to make my mantra. I too am battling to eat as much as I should, probably because I drink so much water so I feel full all the time. I also think because I've just started my journey, I am still trying to figure out what foods and recipes work for me and I am still scared of "calories".0 -
False dichotomy is false.0

Why can't you have A & W if you have more calories to eat? You don't have to get a root beer float, chili cheese fries, onion rings, and a double cheeseburger. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Check the calories you have remaining. Check the A & W website for their nutrition information. Have a single cheese burger. Split an order of fries.0

I guess you can if it fits into your daily calories and MACROS.
And also if it goes toward your goals.
I for one like to stay lean and defined. So I don't drink soda.
Every once-in-a-while I may have a little bit of Sprite.....maybe once or twice a month.
For me I want to make sure that with what I am eating I am getting the good vitamins and nutrients that I know I want, and my body needs. soda, unfortunately does not contain these qualities.
Thus they are termed "empty calories"0
