thank you for your advise, it makes sense to have the bike "fit" I thought it would be like years ago when you got on your kiddy bike & pedalled into the sunset :-) now that I'm older & heavier there's much more to it!!!
Still sore at this moment but as soon as I can, I'm back on my bike.

I got in a rare afternoon ride. Along the way I decided I was just SICK and TIRED of my seat always tipping back, no matter how hard I tighten the bolt. I stopped by my favorite bike shop and they had a replacement in stock for $15. Not bad for a boutique bike shop in the downtown district. Having a firmly anchored seat makes the ride so much more pleasurable.

Just curious what are those object in the spokes are they reflective pads or something?

I took this picture holding the camera in my hands, at a 2.5 second exposure. It's a little jittery, but not too bad.

  • Ok, today was so awesome! I have been pushing the spin dial for more than a few weeks, upping the resistance. TODAY, it was all worth it, as she pushed us hard, I was able to maintain well, AND didn't feel tired, or exhausted. Feeling top nines after today's workout!

    Here's the ticker!

  • Cricket, you are awesome! Thank you for posting this challenge, I am having an amazing time and I have a feeling that the creepy Skelton nails ARE too cute, and boy have I been there, going too light on breakfast.

Those are spoke cards. They're souvenirs from rides and stuff. They originated as entry number cards in alley cat races.

    Anywho....

For the first time in a while, I carried the bike to the start of a ride. I had to take my car to the dealer for some service (new timing belt) and took my bike with me so I could run errands while the car was being worked on. I rode back past downtown to the restaurant where I left my credit card a couple nights ago, grabbed some breakfast, took the bike to the bike shop downtown and got the headset replaced (yeah, maintenance day for both the car and the bike), walked around downtown taking some pictures and getting some coffee while I waited for the bike. Once the bike was done, I rode back out to the dealership, loaded it back on the car and drove home. It was a full day.

The patriotic background is in a viaduct under a rail bridge on a road leading into downtown. The city sponsors painting programs, often by elementary school students, as part of their graffiti abatement program. I guess the feeling is that if you or your younger siblings painted it, you're less likely to paint gang tags over it.

Anyway, I got in a pretty good 30 mile ride today.

I wanted to go back and ride at Rhode Island east bay bike path for a while so I went. It was very windy. It's a very scenic bike path and quite a few spots, it makes me smile, esp. with bright sun even in cold wind.

After the ride, I was a little cold so I stopped at The Blount Clam Shack and Soup Bar and got a cup of clam chowder. It felt so good having a warm soup.

I may do another 30 mile ride tomorrow. If I do, the challenge goal is totally within reach but then again, it's too cold!

Okay. So, I did ride a long ish one, and the goal is mere 22 miles away.
If it's warm, it's done in two commutes. Should I bite a bullet?
I've rode enough in two days that I don't feel like I want to ride any tomorrow. (I want to play tennis!)

  • I ride a pretty awesome red Cannondale road bike, and managed to get about 940 miles in for 2013. A bike wreck and broken clavicus bone has ended my outdoor bike riding for this year!!! Please always wear a good helmet....from someone who knows...Anyways, will be using a stationary bike, elliptical, stairstepper and such at the gym and let my body heal up til spring 2014. :)

Ouch. I broke a collarbone 3 years ago. Amazing what a conversation starter the sling was when I went to the gym to ride a stationary bike. Heal fast and heal well.

I echo your message to wear a helmet. A "good" helmet is one that fits well and you wear correctly. All helmets sold in the US pass the same tests.
