While I have had a similar experience I went to the doctor at the 3 week mark, 5 months is a long time, like you I have pcos, I am 31 and overweight. Go to the emergency room if you must but you have to be seen. Usually BC pills will stop the flow in 2-3 days, but if you are like me you probably dont like taking them because of how they make you feel and the possibly weight gain. My advice see a doctor, get it under control. Once things get back to normal (as normal as pcos can be anyway..our normal is different) If you do not want to stay on the BC pill try alternate natural solutions!...
So one see your DR/EMERGENCY ROOM WHATEVER!! am sure your iron levels are really low right now. If you want to add me feel free. I dont know if you can list medicines on here, but recently I started taking this supplement that is about 12 bux for a months supply on amazon and after years of 6 months no period and then heavy crazy ones etc etc I am finding some normal! I would be glad to tell you what it is! I tried everything and after 3 weeks on this supplement I got a period that lasted 7 days the first time it came and now comes between 4-6 days monthly. I finally started trying to eat healthier and have been losing the weight slowly but surely, honestly I am just happy to have a normal period, and the crazy mood swings tapered! Different things work for different folks But you must address your immediate situation then try to get your pcos under control. Good luck!

i went to er last week and it was a guy dr. and everyone acted like i was crazy and pretty much said that its just a bad period and to follow up with a gyno. it made me feel low and stupid for going. should i go again? and i do have the money to go to gyno but they will not take self pay patients and my jobs insurance i just enrolled in wont start until January. didn't mean to confuse anyone.
please for the ones saying dont ask pple on the internet. i KNOW you are not doctors

i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this so i dont feel crazy and alone.

i do have a health department i didnt even think about that! ill call first thing monday morning.
Yes I dealt with that and it was scary (the period lasting a very long time and it being heavy and large large clots) I think I read someone share they went to the doc and got on BC pills that's what my gyno did for me in my 20's, now she's put me on Progesterone only and it's working fine.

I want you to know you're not the only one, a male Doctor doesn't always handle it well when he's clueless about a women's body.. Please don't feel stupid, I suggest you find a female gyno so when you ask a question she absolutely knows what you're talking about because she's a women.

It's your uterus shedding the excess lining, some have a light period, med etc.. some have incredibly heavy when overweight.. and that's what it sounds like you've been going through. It's exhausting isn't it! I'm glad the doc let you know it's a long period but a better doc will let you know why and what can be done about it with a bit more compassion and also let you know it's not incredibly unusual. It is scary when you don't know isn't it?!

What did you find out about the the edema? That's the scary part, doctors worry about most, particularly having high BP like you do. I hope you check back in here so we know your OK and find out what they put you on or whatever the situation ends up being.

There's nothing wrong with having specialists you go to such as a gyno and a GP... I love my GP but she refers me to other doctors that specialize and I'm grateful to her for that. That's what a good doctor does because the specialists deal with a certain type of illness all the time, they are the experts in that field.

I would suggest you NOT wait until Jan and go back asap... it's a hassle with the heavy bleeding, costly (YES, I do understand that part) for supplies when it's more like hemorrhaging than a regular period and they can do something to help you out NOW instead of waiting until Jan.

I can't speak to the Edema as I've never had that issue so that certainly could be a completely different issue all on it's own. It's very important you get a doc to take you serious and give you water pills for it or whatever they deem to work best.

Looking forward to hearing back and that you're on your way back to be healthy and feeling well.:flowerforyou:

NO. NOT FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING. Go to the ER now. The doctor may have missed something last time around. GO NOW. Of course, if you like feeling weak, etc etc and perhaps bleeding to death slowly, then carry on.

I had something close to what you do for a long time. My periods could last for weeks, or severl times a month with only a few days of no flow. I could just stand up and the blood just ran out on its own along with clots.

Also uninsured I was able to find some medical help. The dr put me on progestrone (spelling) if i remember correctly. (It's been like 20 yrs ago) It was only for 30 days tapered off. I've also heard of ladies having to be put on birth control to stop bad cramping and control heavy periods. I then had to have a DNC to get me all cleared out. The medication helped for a long time really, and then over the years I would just have spotting inbetween mostly. I then hit menopause and continued to have the spotting that would only occur like every few months lasting a day to 3 days. Finally got to see a gyno. and found out I had huge cysts that needed to be removed. Since then I've had zero problems.

As other suggested, I would def seek medical attn any way you can because letting that go and being full of that inside you can turn into cancer :(

I wish you the best of luck

Planned parenthood. Check out your local clinic they have very low cost, will give you a reduction if you are low income, and they have some good practioners there who handle women's health many issues besides pregnancy. I've used them before when I had no insurance for some irregular cycles.

    For future reference

    Pop quiz hotshot...

A paramedic and a registered nurse tell you that you need emergency medical attention and should go to the ER immediately... what do you do?

Cmon Keanu you know the answer to this one.

Not that it makes a difference now but the EMT raises her hand.
    *hand raise*
It was ground into our training that it doesn't matter how "small" you think it is, it may change in a flash.
You could---literally---die if there is something internal happening.
