I guess in my situation I am not offended at all by the let yourself go comment. I did let myself go! I think to myself constantly; dang, if I would of just paid attention and dealt with it when I noticed I put on 15 lbs then I wouldn't be in this situation! I was at a healthy weight all my life 155 at 5''7 until I hit my late 20's fell in love, lost my job and yes let myself go! I know this doesn't apply to everyone. And I can see how the post that was made could be perceived as rude. But, I'm sure there are a lot of people like me out there that did in all actuality let themselves go! Yes, life gets in the way, careers, love, kids and family. I just hope I can get back to my once confident and much healthier and happy self!0

well said!
To the person who asked why we "let ourselves go":
Agreed, not sure why this was here.
I used to weigh 255. I had a husband, I was raising two little (now bigger) kids, a great job, lots of friends and family who loved and accepted me. I felt great about all of these aspects of my life. People often assume the overweight are walking balls of self-loathing trapped in a hell of their own making. I had a good life then, I have a good life now. I wear smaller clothes now, and can do some things better. I am awesome no matter how much I weigh. I didn't let myself go as much as I had other priorities.
The dude who said to another girl on this thread "I will date you if you get to 165" seems to me to exemplify the attitude that people are only worth spending time with if they look a certain way. I like to look good, feel great about myself and am working on my fitness. But I sure as hell do not want to hang out with people who will drop me like a hot potato if I put on 10 pounds. Who does?

Good job to everyone... you are truly an inspiration!! KEEP IT UP! As for all the tangents off the true reason for this thread... "F" 'em I say... do you and who cares about anyone else and what they think of you? Just the fact that you are HERE means you want to change your life and be the best version of yourself... that's the first step to greatness!0

I have been looking at this post for awhile, considering the original idea of being able to lose weight without starving myself. I at one point in life knew what it was to be free and make healthy choices automatically. I had lost about 60 pounds putting me at 180. I am now totally out of control.
To the girl who asked "how I let myself go?" I do not know. It was subtle at first, the struggle - there were life changes, a history of overweight, the hope that I could eat and control more sugary items in my diet... now four years later, I weigh 278. I am also 7 months pregnant, so I would like to blame pregnancy, but I have only gained 14 pounds so far.
To be truthful, I know exactly how the weight gain happened. I ate to much and got more sedentary. I troll around on this post hoping that I will find strength to do what all of these people have done - pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and on a consistent daily basis ate well and exercised more. When I was at a healthy weight, I wish I had done something about it at 185 when my clothing was getting tight. Now I have a year or more of serious work ahead of me after my little baby comes.
The question, however misguided and fear based is something that I do not want to be defensive about. I so badly want to be able to lose weight in a healthy way. I want to stop binging, don't want to start purging again, sick of going on juice fasts, etc. The other day I saw an anorexic - it is a difficult thing to see. Just as difficult as seeing someone who is so overweight they cannot walk. The eating disorders that most of us admit to are real and kill people. My husband brought home a booklet on the behavioral criteria for the different eating disorders. There is one called Binge Eating Disorder. I had every single criteria. This was an eye opener. I have in my life wished to have more restrictive eating - viewing it as better control. All I know is that I have a sick relationship with food and my body that has negatively affected my life and at this time has put me at about 120 pounds above a healthy weight.
This post makes me want to believe that I can do it too. That I can have moderation and lose in a healthy way. Thank you for all the examples.0
