You is a sassy one OP :drinker: I float comfortably around 105-110lbs at 5'6'' and I'm eating 1500-1700 calories. I'd slap a puppy if I had to limit myself to 1200. No harm in changing things up OP

    Cool beans

    Just trying to help :flowerforyou:

Believe me- best news I've gotten today…I am so eating a sandwich before bed today.

If I am starving and eat a HUGE salad, I mean, 4 cups spring mix half of a huge box from Kroger, (50calories) plus 1 Tbl of olive oil,, (100) a little vinegar (20) and pepper, and crutins, )100-200 calories.) Totals to a large, satisfying meal at 180-280 calories. Add beans, chicken ect to it and add on maybe 100 more calories. I really enjoy salads so I can do this, but if you don't like salad you could use a large porportion of any other low calorie veg.

I'm still messing around with what to set as my calorie goal for weight loss, but definitely if I am hungry as ^^^^ at the end of the day I'll eat a bowl of cheerios. If it keeps happening, I'll re-evaluate. Be sure to hit your protein and fat macros as those are important for satiety.

Your stats and routine would suggest a goal of 1700 would be better for you. I would also suggest adjusting macro's to around 40% carbs, 30% fats and protein. What are your fitness goals?

so i guess my pithy comment was deleted.

i'll rephrase it so that my point is obvious and so that it won't be misunderstood by anybody.

OP stated: "i am hungry at 1200 cal/day".

by analogy, think of a car trying to drive from NY to Los Angeles on a single gallon of gas. the car cannot complete the trip on a single gallon of gas. it's just not enough fuel.

that's no different than the human body not being able to fuel all of its processes on 1200 calories per day.

the reason you're hungry is because your body is telling you it needs more fuel. just like the engine in the car tells the driver that i needs more fuel when the gas gauge goes to EMPTY.

if you don't want to be hungry all the time, eat more food. it's that simple.

Why do you believe 1200 calories is a magic number to reach your goals?

Let me expand on ninerbuff's question because it WAS legit. Why did you decide that 1200 calories was the optimal calorie goal for you? DId you type in that you wanted to lose 2lbs a week and that was what MFP gave you? Try figuring out your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) and subtract 15-20% of that and eat those calories. You most likely can be eating more. 1200 calories is as rock bottom as you can go while still ensuring that you're getting basic nutrition. However, you are also active and exercising so you should be eating more because you need more fuel to do those workouts and generally live.

Best of luck to you. :flowerforyou:

Because the tooth fairy told me that when she divulged all her other magic secrets...

anyhoo- to respond to the people that actually attempted an answer to the question:

I jog about 5x per week (usually3-4 miles)
I do circuit weights every other day…although I didn't do so much last week (whomp-whomp)
    I am 26, 5'6…right now I'm at 121.4 lbs.

why do you need to lose more weight, your at a normal weight for your height and age, I suggest just to tone up from here on out

Protein, fat and fiber. If you can get most of your calories from these three sources, you'll feel less hungry than if it's mostly carbs. :)

You could probably also up your calorie limit a bit, since you're young. Try 1300 for awhile, and if you still lose weight over the course of a couple of weeks, try 1400, etc. It's a calibration process, learning what your body does with different calorie limits.

I really want the last few pounds to budge. I run and do weights…but this 1200 calories per day is making me into a cranky- insomniac *****. Any suggestions on how to make 1200 a bit less PTSD inducing? (I know to drink water BTW…thanks LOL)

Eat more.. seriously.. you don't have to starve yourself to lose weight. The average women I know is losing at 1700-2100. Whats your weight weight age and workout routine?
What I wouldn't give to be able to eat 1700-2100/day and LOSE. I'm 5'1" and 99 pounds, so that's just not gonna happen. My sedentary TDEE is 1365 - 1450 (depending on which calculator I use), so I would have to burn calories like a rock star to get to the point where I could lose at 1700 - 2100. Shoot, I can't even maintain at that level. And yes, I burn... I run and I rock climb several times a week. Not grousing, just saying that I guess I'm not your "average" woman. Ooooooh... does that make me a special snowflake???????? Too. Awesome. Rainbow unicorn poop mode engaged.

No you are not the average person.. especially since you are close to being under weight. You do have the ability to increase your TDEE and increase your metabolic rate. You could, with hard work, do a couple bulk/cut cycles to gain new lean body mass and increase your BMR. I can tell you, i know a lot of 5' girls eating 1700 calories and losing. The fact that your composition is low, is directly related to the amount of calories you burn. Heck, it's the reason my friend maintains at 4500 calories.

Below is a great thread, especially for women to see what others on this site are doing. It's over 500+ post of women who eat a lot of various ages and sizes.

Well, for one thing if you are exercising 1200 cals/day is not enough. It will make you hungry, cranky, and put your body into starvation mode.

Your hunger is your body's reaction to fat tissue loss.
Humans are built to save up fat in times of scarcity. When your body starts losing fat, it sends you a relentless message to search for food, and eat plenty.
many times, in nature, periods of short scarcity were followed by very long periods of scarcity.
This explains why we eat EVEN MORE than we would have if/when we break our fat loss diet.
In short, every time you are hungry, know your body is burning fat.
Keep it safe though, nobody likes a piece of cardboard as a chick.

I'll definitely check that out. I've considered a bulk/cut cycle. I'm around 20-21% BF now, so it would be reasonable for me to bulk at this point and attempt some eventual net lean mass gain (after the cut, of course). When I average it out, I'm maintaining at about 1500. I can't even imagine being able to maintain or lose at higher than that, but I would love to do just that. Thanks for the link!

I eat 1500 calories a day and I'm losing really wonderfully! I'm hardly ever hungry and I feel better vs eating 1200 calories which I was doing at one point. I was always hungry then.
