I love how people are all being rude. Okay yea, I'm a woman, I don't want to lift giant weights. Most men, normal men do not find that attractive, sorry! I know for a fact. In college I took study's, mass study's about body types, face types, ect ect. Also, the most important thing, my husband is not attracted to it!
Everything in this entire statement is rude...not to mention on your profile you mention you are doing this so your kids don't think it's okay to be fat and lazy...
Your female..you don't have the testosterone levels to get bulky without a supplement...News Flash..if you want to be strong you have to lift heavy things and strengthen those muscles...Heavy for you may be a 3lb weight...either way it has to cause some resistance.
Also what Tai said..you don't get muscular without trying...a little resistance will just tone..not bulk0 -
She is just voicing her opinion. In her opinion she doesn't want to look muscular. That's fine. Some women are like that. My mom is too. I'm sure she means no offense to others who want to look that way. She just wants a different type of shape. Lay off peeps. :grumble:
But she basically said men who like muscular women are not normal. So great job of a) making muscular women feel unattractive; and b) shaming men who find them attractive.
My guess is the OP is a child. Either in age or in emotional maturity. It's hard to be offended by such daftness.0 -

Well....I mean MY HUSBAND really isn't normal...I may not have married him if he was..LOL0 -

So she can voice her opinion that muscular women are unattractive, men who find them attractive are not "normal" and that lifting 5 pound dumb bells is going to make her shoulders massive, but we cannot tell her our opinion of her opinion?
Got it.

Just wanted to say that your shoulder width is determined by your clavicle bone, if you're an adult, your shoulders are as broad as they are getting. If you want them to appear smaller, get rid of that excess arm fat, lift weights to keep toned. Or you can eat lots and hope your waist gets bigger, then no one will notice your shoulders.0
-
It just seems like she's being ganged up on.
Then she probably shouldn't have insulted a whole cross section of women and the men who like them.0 -

You seem to have a misconception that touching a weight is going to make you huge and buff. It's just annoying to hear stuff like that. There's people here, both women and men, who've been lifting heavy weights and dieting for months, if not years, yet they still aren't anywhere near where they want to be. It's nowhere near as easy as you think.
Okay well great good to hear. However I don't think people should be rude. And should not ..to the women above, take the internet THAT seriously. Anyways it was a question..that's what this site is for, support, not attacking people. I was basically giving information I found from a very big study that I was involved in.0 -

It only seems that way because the majority of the people replying don't agree with her. She stated an opinion, which she's entitled to, but she stated it in a way that made it sound like she speaks for the majority. Which you can see from the responses she does not. I get what she was trying to say, she just could have been more tactful about it. Then we wouldn't feel the need to defend ourselves. :-)0 -
There's a level of muscularity that most men do not find attractive. Some men do, most men don't. Same goes for male muscularity and vascularity.
Takes a ton of work. Thinking it will just happen with any lifting is silly.
But so is getting offended at any mention of unattractive muscularity.0 -
It just seems like she's being ganged up on.
She's not being ganged up on. She offended women who lift weights, regardless of their appearance, women who want to or do look muscular in appearance, women with broad shoulders, and men who are attracted to women who don't look like she think they should look. That's going to elicit a response.0 -

I find it quite ironic that YOU are saying people are being rude when you in fact made a very rude and insulting thread. You get what you give.0 -
Ok everyone quit picking on the OP. She asked a legitimate question. The way some people phrase things on these forums in response to a posters question isn't always the nicest or friendliest and then when the OP stands up for them self everyone jumps on them. OP just a tip for now on, before posting a new topic search for old questions that are relative to what you want to know.0

When someone makes broad, sweeping generalizations about what is normal/not normal and what is attractive/not attractive and then takes it step further to insulting, they should not be surprised when people feel the need to defend themselves.
She was getting really helpful advice until she started with that nonsense.0 -

Well the survey I was involved in came from over 50,000 people...then when you use that study, and do the math on the rest of the United States, population, generalize it, they came up with the majority feel that way about body types. I don't really care what other peoples body types are or how there husbands or finances feel. I'm saying MY HUSBAND likes my Body to be smaller on top. Hence my worry about over time, after I move from the 5 to the 8 to the 10 lb weights, that my shoulder muscles would strengthen and give my shoulders a broader look. God forbid I ask a question on a forum FOR THAT REASON and people just answer it without being rude. Anyways, I don't care, does my response appear as so, possibly, however I just was informed my post blew up so I came back to just speak my peace.0 -

Your study was still only a cross section of a population. That may have been the majority that came out of it, but not necessarily the true majority. Also, you shouldn't call others out for being rude, when your wording came across as just as rude. I for one am not attacking you, just pointing out that you could have used a little more tact or perhaps a better choice of words to get your point across, that would not have offended an entire group of people here. You also equate fat with being lazy on your profile, and that is not always the case, another example of poor wording. Remember this is the internet and everyone can read everything. Well thought out statements, questions, and observations would have kept this from happening in the first place. Just something to think about while you are throwing rocks from your glass house.0 -
People should not take offense so easily. Some people think muscles are gross just like some people think fat is gross.0

For me, rea searching takes a lot of time, like days, I don't just read a few articles, I go all out, because I would hate to read the wrong thing, like in did and then ask a question. I have 3 kids 5 and under. Luckily right now I'm on my iPad and folding clothes at the same time! That doesn't happen often. I'm just not asking questions on here.
I get most the people answering them are fit, but there egos are getting to them. They need to come back down to reality and realize they weren't always fit, they didn't always know all the answers and they are just regular people. I'm glad I've always been even at my smallest weight, very grounded, and never acted like THAT.0 -

you kinda just did...
throwing all your weight around acting like your study was the end all and be all and you didn't even have a full grasp on your study...
THEN saying you do full research (above) after stating minimal understanding of the very study...
so...you did...you acted EXACTLY like those people you just AGAIN so rudely cross sectioned..
good luck with the internets...it seems beyond your grasp a bit.0 -
My shoulders have gotten broader since heavy lifting. But my waist has narrowed, my butt has firmed and rounded, my legs and arms are more defined. And really, I was never going to fit into a small shirt due to height and boob size, so I'm ok with broader shoulders, given the rest.
Thank you for your response. I was in an extra small and small shirt, I'd like to get back there. Or as close too.0 -

That seems like a very small study population to come to the conclusion that the majority of Americans don't like muscular females. I am curious about the study now, has the information been published anywhere? Did they use varying examples of muscular females ( body builder to average lifter)? Where could I find the information about it? No one would have had an issue with you stating how your husband feels...it was saying majority / fact and speaking for an entire poplulation that caused the uproar. See my previous post about wording. Again, I am not attacking you, I just want you to take a moment to see how YOUR words came across and maybe realize that was part of the issue as well, and it isn't just that everyone here is rude.0 -

Well, there's people in this thread who were once where you are now, and have gotten themselves in great shape. There's others who have always been in great shape.
But you should let go of your preconceptions and listen to people who actually know what they are talking about. Then you might learn something and actually move a step closer to your goals.0 -

My study was when I was in college, 100 people were involved. It wasn't an "online thing" my life goes past that! I'm not in college any longer. So yea, good luck with yourself! Lol0 -

People should not take offense so easily. Some people think muscles are gross just like some people think fat is gross.
Yes, but what is normal (and by extension abnormal)?
Ronnie Coleman is not normal. He's pushed the envelope of body modification, and he's well into fringe attractiveness. He doesn't care if a lot of people don't find his muscles attractive. He's got his own thing going.
I also lift. If I pretended to get offended on the internet because someone found Ronnie Coleman's muscles unattractive, that would be pretty ridiculous.0 -
