I wouldn't say you always have to turn them down. Where I used to work a dozen doughnuts were brought in every Thursday. For the most part I didn't want one and they didn't tempt me but once in awhile they did, I would just try to have a 1/2 doughnut when I really wanted one. I would fit it in to my calories for that day. They are just really high in fat, calories and offer no nutritional value. Just let yourself have a little once in awhile, guilt - free, you just don't want to over do it all the time. I've learned I do better by letting myself have the not so good food once in awhile then to never let myself have any. I think in the 5-6 months I worked there I had 3 doughnuts. Although there were some days I felt like if I had one , I would eat 3 and eat horribly the rest of the day, I did refrain from eating them, you have to listen and know yourself enough if you can be in control of the food that day or if the food is going to be controlling you. Do what is best for you......

How do they have no nutrtional value? And just because you eat one, is no excuse to eat horribly the rest of the day. What we try to advise and help with, is learning to eat everything in moderation, including treats like donuts. It's better for long term success. Don't use eating one donut as an excuse to eat a lot of other things that you shouldn't.

because you know you will feel like crap after youre done eating it and it will steal away all of your energy and you will feel sluggish and tired afterwards because all of the processed chemical and sugar will have your insulin spiking up and soon after will come crashing back down. Eat 1 cup of broccoli, 4oz of chicken, and 1/2 cup of brown rice with a full bottle of water, wait 5 mins and I SWEAR to you your cravings will have vanished! :)

If you are experiencing a craving for a donut, and eat broccoli, chicken and rice, you will still want a donut. Then when you eat the donut, you will have exceeded your calorie goals. Just eat the donut. Cravings don't have much to do with hunger or nutrtional needs. if you only eat one donut and aren't eating too much sugar/carbs in the rest of day and don't exceed your macros, you will feel fine.

OP here. See I wasn't craving a donut, it just appeared before me and I was tempted to eat it. I guess I'm mostly looking for reasons not to the eat free treats that routinely appear at work (today it's mini cupcakes, WHY?!). I agree that one donut is fine, but I'm worried about the cumulative effect.

There won't be a cumulative effect if you simply swap the donut/free treat for something else in your food diary worth the same amount of calories. If you feel bad about it, exercise it (or a portion of it) off. A small treat a day keeps you happy, rather than ignoring the cravings and depriving yourself. It's what keeps you going :)

Marge: “Homer, stop eating your head.”

    Homer: “But I’m so yummy…”

I wonder if Homer's head is a 3,500 calorie donut?

I ate a donut this morning and bought enough for all of my coworkers. I enjoyed every bite and washed it down with coffee. Since it's not something I eat on a regular basis, made it that much sweeter(no pun intended).

Sorry I can't say not to eat one, because I think all things in moderation are ok!

You ever tried a glazed hot Krispy Kreme donut right off the line? More addictive than crack cocaine. If your bulking and need an extra 2,000 calories it might be useful.

Maybe you need to reread a comment entirely before you reply...maybe it would have been better had I stated that they have little to no nutritional value...there is really nothing substantial in a doughnut that your body needs, they don't carry a whole lot of vitamins or minerals that is good for you. http://www.livestrong.com/article/284165-the-nutritional-value-of-doughnuts/ ( for an example of what is in a doughnut). and if you were to reread my post you would see I would and do an occasion eat some, it's not something I want to eat all of the time ( moderation). I have history of binging and do battle days where I want to binge and on days I feel like I may want to do that it is not the day I would want to eat a doughnut, somethings for me on days I feel like I might be in that kind of a mood, like a doughnut would trigger a binge, high calorie, high sugar, high fat....you may not have experience with binging and I do, that was/ is my personal experience. That is why I mentioned it and also told her to listen to her own body....she will know herself best of what she can handle doing or not doing at her point in her journey. Everyone's journey and battle is different.

I've been dying to try them since my son has been eating those this week. He's also a stick boy, so he can eat whatever. I'm going to walk to DD tomorrow, buy one of each, and split them with my daughter. It's settled!
