Hey kkoziki: what does "ya der hey" mean? We say things in Kentucky like....We're fixin to .....(which means we're getting ready to do something) and also the one that drove me crazy when I first moved here, but now I use, "How much do ya lack?" That means how much longer 'til you're ready to go? My friends from up north make so much fun of me, because I sound so much more southern that when I was a child. It's just comfortable, easy and slower. It's hard not to pick it up. What else do you say that might be different than the expressions we'd use down south? By the way, whoever started this (I can't see the name right now) this is one of the most interesting topics!0

Hey apojones.
"ya der hey" is a longer version of "yes".
I've been to Oklahoma before for a wedding were they had a very southern accent. It was funny for all of us to listen to each other and there were a few times where we would look at each other and be like, "what did you say?". I can see that it's very easy to pick up the southern accent, almost had me talking like that after a week.
Maybe a few more words: "bubbler" instead of water fountain that you drink from, "dat' instead of "that", "soda" instead of "pop", "up nort'" is considered upper Wisconsin. I've heard that instead of signal lights we call them "stop-in-go lights" I guess I never knew people actually call them signal lights cause I say stop-in-go-lights...ha ha. There's also a few things we say about Illinois people, ha ha. Most Wisconsin people don't like them, but I won't get into that. )0
