I think this might have been the 5th? thread I've run into you in. yeah, your information is wrong. You need to find a new doctor if they are ok with you eating that little and you're wasting your money on your "nutritionist."

Although if you tell me getting all my required vitamins and minerals every day and eat healthy I'll look like a fitness model, I'll try my hardest to believe you, because I'd really love for it to be true. :happy:
Jiggling fat means you are out of shape, it is not genetics, it is called not being fit.
Actually it is genetics to some extent, according to recent studies.
Regardless, if I can't breathe, I can't walk. But I certainly agree, fitness does matter. However, that was my point. Eating 1200 calories a day if one is sedentary regardless isn't going to make things any worse. However, if I were exercising, I'd be eating more than that, personally, at least over the long haul.
Have to agree that genetics does have something to do with based on experience. Even when I didn't workout I still never had jiggling fat. NEVER. Always solid. My mother too. Even after having five kids and me having one kid we both still looked solid. My pictures I posted from three-four months ago on my profile are beginning pics with my workout bra and stomach showing me at 185 when I first joined MFP back in December.
So yes, genetics does play a part at least in my family. No jiggling fat over this way.0 -

Unfortunately her diary tells a different story. It seems she nets more than 4-500 calories. And that includes logging exercise like food preparation and veterinary care. I'm willing to be she is netting far more than that.
There's no way a person could be netting that much and still be walking around. However most people will not check, they'll just take her at her word.0 -

So I did find a very small study that shows exercise preserving muscle in a major deficit. In fact, in this study, the ones exercising didn't get to eat back their calories so were in a greater deficit than the sedentary subjects and the ones exercising still preserved muscle. They lost the same scale weight as the sedentary subjects but they lost more fat and kept more muscle. Also in both groups on 800 calories a day for five weeks, metabolic rate slowed down %20. Doesn't say in the abstract if it was permanent or not. Looks like the jury is in, at least for obese women in this study, exercise is a good idea if one can do it.:

Obese women (140-180% of ideal body weight) were studied on a metabolic ward during 1 wk of maintenance feeding, followed by 5 wk of 800 kcal/d (liquid formula diet). Total weight loss was not different between exercising and nonexercising subjects but significantly more of the weight loss came from fat and less from fat-free mass in the exercising subjects. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) declined similarly in both groups (approximately 20%), even though exercising subjects were in greater negative energy balance due to the added energy cost of exercise. In summary, results from this controlled inpatient study indicate that exercise is beneficial when coupled with food restriction because it favors loss of body fat and preserves fat-free mass.0 -

I'm 5'1" and I totally agree with you. I start putting on weight at 1700 calories.
My questions would be:
1.) are you using a food scale to weigh out all of your portions?
2.) over what time period did you gain?
I just increased calories recently. I "gained" 2 lbs for a month, then it dropped off. It's glycogen/water retention from increased carbs. Not fat.0 -
okay well then...at 30lbs a TDEE-20% deficet is too high...sorry...
1/2lb a week is a good healthy rate of loss for 30lbs...so that is TDEE-10%
And when I input your starting stats into scooby...144lbs, 61 inches, 37 and sedentary..wow imagine it gave 1333, TDEE-10% was 1499, and I could snip the screen and go to photobucket and post here but eh...I have DC'd it...maybe you should have.
And if your profile pic is you and your son you are not sedentary...so imagine lightly active goes to 1718.
Not sure why you felt the need to post this...it is common knowledge that the AMA says that in order to get in all your macro/micros you need at least 1200...and the fact you mention starvation mode...really?
After a few months no you wouldn't be hungry, when the body isn't getting enough food it creates a hormone to alter your hunger signals to lower so you aren't in constant agongy...see even your body knows something is wrong
So...1200 is the limit for women regardless of their height...When someone new writes a post about "is 1200 o.k." don't just jump in and say "you'll die." Say "what are your stats?" Please. Can we stop the misinformation?

This^^ I'm 5 foot 3, and eating between 1500 and 2000 calories a day depending on my activities, and I'm dropping weight and body fat % at a steady rate. So...
Now I am being completely neutral and just state what i have experienced.
I'm 5 ft 2. and i had been around 130~135 pounds for at least my entire high school years. and i started to lose weight from 2013 July.
and from July to september 2013 i went from 135~106 lbs. and then successfully maintained 106 till now.
recently i ate way too much,...actually i am trying to reefed and reset my BMR.
when i was losing weight. i'd never eat more than 1000 calories. sometimes about 700 calories a day, and i still workout as usual.
i think it is just they thinner you are, the less calories you should take.
when i was 135 pounds. 1500 calories can make me lose weight
when i was 106 pounds. 1500 calories can make me significantly "bloated"
since i am too skinny, almost no extra fat, so any extra fat is just so noticeable.
im not saying below 1200 calories a day is good for you
