Let's talk cottage cheese

tell me what I need to do to it to make me like it. What are your favourite add-ins? Or how do you eat it?

I want to like it. I really do. Easy, healthy, portable, don't need to cook. Help me help myself.

I hated cottage cheese until I tried the full fat variety. YES PLEASE. SO much better. You can make it sweet with fruits, or even chocolate chips (haven't tried that one yet) or go savory with various herbs and spices. I just eat the full fat kind plain.

PEACHES! Yes!! But I love any fruit - strawberries or blueberries, pineapple. You could also try a dash of salt and freshly cracked pepper. Try small curd (or large) if it was a texture issue.

Sometimes I'll add some jelly or jam or honey to it to sweeten it up if I don't have fruit handy. I also enjoy it with salt and pepper.

O.O I never thought to put anything in it! Glad I opened this thread, just bought some 1% and not really in love with it... gotta "spice" it up.
  • That's my next addition to my. Diet. I'll add strawberries and raw sugar just like I do with my yogurt.

To me every brand tastes different and so I only purchase one or two kinds now. So it may be just the brand or two you tried. And be warned, the low sodium kind is awful, imo. I can't find it now but when I bought it I mixed it 50/50 with a regular one so it was healthier.

I add fruit or cinnamon or just eat it plain

If you want a treat mix 1 container cottage cheese, 1 dry package of jello (if using regular jello only use about 1/3 of the package), fruit like mandarin oranges, pineapple, fresh strawberries, etc. (use firmer or canned fruits as more delicate ones like raspberries can fall apart) and a tub, of half, cool whip.

Some people mix pineapple into it. Say its amazing. I think that's blasphemy...almost as bad as putting pineapple on pizza.

I'm trying to find a low-sodium, non-fat version but can't seem to. I don't think it exists. The low-sodium version some stores carry are too high calorie for me. The fat-free versions have a ton of salt. Urgh.

I get small curd, makes a difference and I add fruit (I get the little fruit cups and drain most of the juice off) any kind of fruit works great! OR tomatoes just dice them up and add them in, with some salt and pepper... real good!

Peaches, pineapple, mango, apple but peaches are the winner if there were a fruit for cottage cheese battle royale.

I personally like it plain.... But my wife mixes applesauce or pineapple with her's you can also try Blueberries, strawberries or what ever is your favorite.

  • When I want it sweet I throw in some fruit (peaches, pineapple, grapes and berries are all yummy) otherwise I like it with pepper. It also stirs well into chili or vegetable soup. Or potatoes if you eat those. My grandma liked hers with salt, pepper and tomato.

There are so many other options so you don't HAVE to like it but.... I like it with capers, sunflower seeds, diced cucumbers and dill, fruit, chia seeds, bacos, with diced avocado, dried edamame....

I toss some salt in it and than put it on top of a few Popchips or Sunchips. But I only like the large curd, non diet cottage cheese. Can't help you with the low fat, or fat free stuff.

Definitely freshly cracked pepper. Doesn't need anything else.

I have it on thin rice cakes. I put some cucumber slices and capsicum on top, with salt and pepper. Or i put sliced strawberries on top with a little bit of maple syrup :)

I like it with salsa, or black pepper, or using in a green salad as the "dressing", I like it with Mrs. Dash and I mixed it with dry cereal one morning because of not having any yogurt or milk, it wasn't bad just different. Salsa was the most pleasant surprise!

I used to hate it, but now I love it. The full-fat variety. I like it sweetened with sugar, but now I'm using Stevia drops instead.

My trick for learning to like it? Think of it as chunky cheesecake. ;-)
