Um, cranberries during the rest of the year after Thanksgiving. And Craisins don't count. That's practically candy.

I buy bags and bags of the fresh cranberries and store them in the freezer. Smoothies, oatmeal, etc.

If I'm being good - it has to be raw sugar snap peas - I could eat them by the bag load!

Quark - soft cheese made from skim milk - love it, and it doesn't separate when you use it in hot stuff.

    Beetroot - roasted or pickled.

Dutch Crispbakes - like melba toasts but round and fatter usually, typically 29-35 cals each & a nice crunch for breakfast or with soup.

Cashews. I don't eat a lot of them (10 or so a day), but they save me when I'm hungry.

YUM! I only get good ones in Chile though.

    And BEETS! And baked carrots.

Ryvita flatbread - with smoked salmon or roast beef or peanut butter or brie

Plain yogurt - with granola for breakfast or on ice cream as a topping

Plain, homemade kefir or buttermilk to drink when it's hot

    Snap peas

    Candied ginger

    Agua de fresa

You guys have made me hungry!

    my must have foods:

vindaloo (my own home recipe involving meat, vegetables and Patak's vindaloo curry paste)
other varieties of Patak's curry pastes for variations on the above
    onions
    chocolate
    tuna
vinegar (I like my food to have a low pH)
    cheddar cheese
    tomatoes
    eggs
    brussel sprouts
    spinach
    Heinz salad cream
    chicken breast
    spring onions
    lamb/mutton
Heinz tomato soup (has to be Heinz no other brand tastes right!)
    brussel sprouts
    blueberries
    strawberries
    raspberries
    blackcurrants
    redcurrants
    loganberries
    smoked salmon
    choco mini weetabix
    laban (Arabic dairy product)
    labneh (Arabic "Greek" yoghurt)
    dijon mustard
    carrots
    ice cream
brussel sprouts again because they're my favourite vegetable

I eat quite a lot of other foods as well, but these are my "I don't want to live without" foods

I had never heard of fiddleheads before yesterday - saw them on Food Network - Anna Olsen - and now you mention them too. Don't think I've ever come across them in the UK but they look intriguing.

I like parsnips and I don't see a lot of people eating those, but I don't really look either.

I also like brussel sprouts, but that isn't too uncommon.

I like okra, but I don't get it often.

When small game is in season, I will often get some rabbit and squirrel.

Red onions. Raw. On salads, on sandwiches... almost on their own! Even the smell of them. Even the action of cutting them... mmmm red onions for dinner this evening!

I don't see a lot of love for sweet potatoes (not yams) here but I really love them.

I love them too. Sliced, sprinkled with a tiny amount of sea salt and some red wine vinegar and left to macerate. Pink and tasty - one of my favourite ways to start and then dress a salad.

    Good call. I love beets.

Also, this may not be what you are looking for, but fresh herbs, particularly basil, dill and parsley. You can chop up fresh herbs and add to anything (vegetables, pasta, fish) and increase the flavor by leaps and bounds.

Other favorites that I don't see a lot of are zucchini, tomatoes and fresh shrimp.

They are currently in season...it's a short season usually 2-3 weeks depending on the weather.

Ramps. I've never seen it in a diary, but it is in the database so somebody else is eating them. I love them and freeze some to eat year round.
