    It's insane. It'd be like congratulating a bodybuilder for coming in soft because the insecure guys out there can more easily relate. Sure, these pageants are also about other things besides the body...but these people are not ever mentioning those attributes so it's an irrelevant point.

    How about we start honoring women for something besides looking attractive to men?

    What if we started holding pageants that rewarded real achievement? What's her talent? She's a chemist, and one of the best in the country. So no, she never really took the time to learn baton twirling.

    What if there was no bikini competition? Because you had a group of smart women with self-respect who wanted no part of being judged solely for their looks, and paraded out like sides of beef.

    What if we treated women...like people?

    she looks good of course, but ya definitely not 119 pounds, she looks like she has some muscle. I'm 5'6" and at 119 I looked smaller than her and was smaller than a size 4.

    I'm actually inclined to agree.

    I also see his point. I do think she is beautiful and that the standards for these contests are completely absurd, but she did consent to this physical scrutiny knowing full well that this could happen.

    First of all she's gorgeous I wish I was "normal" like her. I heard a report that she is 5'8" 132 size 4 but the average (normal??) American woman is 5'5" 165 and a size 14. This is one screwed up view on our bodies no wonder we have body issues.

    Well, I think that's great that they had a girl up there that isn't a "bag of bones" and I think she looks great, but the thing that got me was the article's claim that Mekayla has a BMI of 18, making her far from "normal" or "average." As the article says, she's 5'8", meaning that she'd have to be about 119 lbs to have a BMI of 18. They say she wears a size 4, which I believe because my body doesn't look all that different from hers and I wear a size 4 (sometimes), but she's definitely not 119 lbs.

    Thoughts?

    It's insane. It'd be like congratulating a bodybuilder for coming in soft because the insecure guys out there can more easily relate. Sure, these pageants are also about other things besides the body...but these people are not ever mentioning those attributes so it's an irrelevant point.

    I'm actually inclined to agree.

    I also see his point. I do think she is beautiful and that the standards for these contests are completely absurd, but she did consent to this physical scrutiny knowing full well that this could happen.

    It's funny how being very attractive seems to upset people far more than being very intelligent. Here's to awarding Nobel Prizes to "normal" people with "real" brains rather than all the Smarty McSmarty Pants. Seriously, let people compete with what they have.

    not because you're a favourite but I have to agree with you on here... she does have a fuller physique were clearly aesthetics are important...
