@tanya - I need to clean my fridge too - it's on my to-do list for the weekend, but ugh. Such a glamorous life. I'm sorry about your back pain, and wtg on your loss!
@lauriek - we all have days like that, when food just gets out of control! good for you for acknowledging it and moving on. thanks for all the work y ou're doing on the mileage challenge.
@skinny - I love my Samsung s4 and think the mini is so cute! Mine is a full size one and is enormous. I figure I get a good calorie burn just by lugging it around. I was so excited to upgrade to a smartphone, don't know what I'd do without it now. Have fun at the wedding!
@Muzica - welcome! I agree that you need to do what you know works for you. It's so easy to get caught up in all of the advice on places like this, and some of it is really good, but at the end of the day, you know your body and what works best. I love trying different approaches based on what people suggest, and then tweaking it for my own weight loss journey. \
@sherrie - I often let one bad day sabotage me too, and it takes so long to get back on track. good for you on the exercise, you're doing great! And mmm... Ben & Jerry's! Love it.
@tlh - that camping thing sounds fun - too bad you had to buy so much stuff for it! seems like every time we turn around, one of the boys needs something. We used to be able to do hand-me-downs from my oldest to youngest but they're built so differently now that my 8 year old wears a bigger size than my 12 year old most of the time.
@kaye - have a good trip! I hope your throat feels better.
@ferafila - I'm sorry about your sick pet! Good job getting your miles in anyway.
@L2T - enjoy your vacation! I love a good book.
@morgori - I love your posts, always look forward to finding out what "day" it is.
@rnk - sounds like you have a good weekend plan - well done! Good luck on carrying it out.
@p1 - good luck with your cleaning - I always go on a mad cleaning spree when we have company coming, too. The normal state of our house is kind of chaotic. Sounds like cooking will be a challenge, I hope you can get your head around it!
AFM - I admit, I'm in a slump. I'm not making great choices right now and am finding it so hard to stay on track. My fitbit hasn't been syncing with MFP for three days now which is frustrating. I have been fighting through a plateau and have only lost 2.9 lbs in the past month, which makes me sad and angry. The last few days I've fallen off the wagon but I'm determined to get back on. My PT has given me permission to walk 20 minutes per day, which seems like nothing at all when I'm used to doing 3-5 miles without blinking, but I will humbly accept it and get my butt in gear. I am officially on summer vacation now, and I admit it's causing some anxiety. I would really like this to be a successful summer in the weightloss department, and I know it's going to be difficult to stay on track with the lower grocery budget, lower activity level (ie. not working so not on my feet for 6 hrs/day, racking up 6-8K steps without even blinking), and restricted activity. This, coupled with the stress of my 12 year old's current issues (we start the med adjustments this weekend), waiting to hear back on a surgery date and more test results for my husband, etc... I'm just feeling discouraged and overwhelmed. Determined to turn things around, and realizing it's going to have to be a "one day at a time" kind of a summer.

@Laurie~Thanks for the suggestion, I thought about the recumbent bike too—main reason for avoiding exercise is my doc said he doesn't want me sweating underneath the cast, but I may give it a try just at a really slow pace.
@Robin~Your friend is so lucky to have you in his corner!
@Karen~Hooray for getting on the smartphone bandwagon, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without one before! I haven’t had a land line for about 5-years, with cell phones and texting it just didn't make much sense to pay for it anymore. I’m sorry you’re sick (and just before vacation)—how awesome your dentist will call in a script though!
@p1xyn1xy~my place is a disaster right now too—no kids to contribute to the mess though, just one-armed me and one feisty Maine Coon!
@Tanya~I’m sorry for the back pain, I hope its feeling better today.
@Cath~Hi! Nice to see you checking in.
@Muzica~I’m very sorry to hear about your uncle’s passing, thoughts and prayers to you and your family. :flowerforyou:
@Heidi~I'm sorry you're struggling right now. Its so hard to stay focused when so much stress and anxiety surrounds us, hang in there!
To those with the fruit flies/gnats—I just discovered one flying around my kitchen this morning. Never had them—wonder why they are surfacing? I don't have fruit sitting on counter, maybe its weather patterns?
AFM~Yesterday was my first day back to work and with my boss on vacation all week, my desk was just littered with paperwork. It was a frustrating day—had to have I.S. swap my keyboard for a regular one since I can’t use my ergonomic keyboard while in this cast. After using my hand so much at work I was in quite a bit of pain by early afternoon—was glad when I got home, took some pain medication and slept the evening away with a very cantankerous Maine Coon! She is just knocking stuff off of tables and counters—I think she is mad I left her. Geez, spoiled much? Not sure what the weekend holds, block/pool party Sunday afternoon –probably go for a little while, although I can’t swim right now.

@Rnk -- hope this weekend goes well for you. Just try to remember the 12 year old will eat you out of house and home so you can leave it for him.
@P1xy...that's a lot of family around. ENJOY! Then 2 1/2 weeks camping! Wonderful!
@Tammy...it's amazing what taking time off from exercise will do. I had three weeks off from workout sessions with my trainer and uffda...
@Tanya...New low!! Whoo-hoo!!!
@Muzica...I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose those important people in our lives.
AFM...went over to my sister's last night for supper and just to hang out. The kids were outside except the 2 year old, so we got some nice visiting in. She didn't say a word to me about my other sister.
When I got home, my other sister called me up crying and apparently sister 1 told sister 2 she was no longer interested in speaking with her or having her involved in her life. Sister 1 is in a verbally abusive releationship and had left her husband last summer for about 5 months (this was about the 5th time she had left him and always leaned on sister 2). Long story short, sister 2 used poor choice of words when talking and now sister 1 tells her she's not being supportive of her marriage and doesn't want anyone toxic in her life. The problem was that sister 1 thought she was attacking her husband when in reality sister 2 was talking about chances (why husband could have multiple choices, but nobody else could). We have a family funeral on Tuesday -- could be interesting....sometimes I feel like I moved into a soap opera! Hopefully I can be a catalyst to healing between the two.
Today is a day full of odds and ends. Emma took a cake decorating class this morning -- ultimately turned into a cake baking/frosting class. No decorating seen. :ohwell: Helped my mom do the picture board for her brother's funeral. My son is with my sister at the lake for the day. I've got a date with my sister at the gym at 3:30 and then doing a prayer vigil at church from 5:30 - 5:45. Michael's home today so this evening, we should probably end up doing some packing. The tough thing is the apartment really only has our essentials in it so it's kind of hard to start packing. The nice thing is all the non-essentials are still in boxes from two years ago!! :smokin:
Have a great weekend!0 -
Just checking in. Have been in a slump and ignoring everything. Started binge eating, but quickly got control. Mostly sleeping as much as I can. Prepared a to do list and trying to follow it to get myself going.
Probably wlll weigh in next Wednesday. Hoping things will get better when I get out and about.

Hello everybody. I am having a very pleasant Saturday. I got up around 7:30 and after showering and coming alive I met up with my mom and we spent just over four hours garage sailing at a massive neighborhood sale not far from where we live. We got all kinds of great stuff for just about every one in the family and i recorded 2 hours of liesurley walking since we just moved the car occasionally and were walking around to all of them. Once we came home I took the dogs down to the lake for a walk but it ended up being fairly short since neither one wanted to behave well today. The big one wouldnt quit pulling and tugging and the little one wouldnt quit yapping non stop. So their loss cause momma just loaded them back up and now they are stuck at home. I got some really cute clothes at the sale for me. I spent 32 dollars but I got 4 real nice summer shirts, three pairs of jeans, and a pair of capris so I am pretty happy. All in all a pretty good day and in a little while I am going to grill up a nice thick steak and have some watermelon and a nice garden salad to go with and should come in nicely under on calories for the day. Well have a great day everyone and remember that you are AWESOME :flowerforyou: :drinker: :drinker:

I had THE GREATEST sleep last night!!! It's been so long since I've had a sleep where I don't remember the amount of times I've rolled over or changed position. And I slept in until 9am... Ahhh. I've been able to sleep in a bit more lately since work is lighter this time of year, but 5:30 is still too dang early!!
My back is also feeling much better, and I can feel exactly where the soreness is, leading me to believe that it is in fact DOMS and not an injury. Despite the bit of soreness left I hiked for a good 4.5 hours on a few various trails... 15k distance and 21k steps. I currently have a 1500 calorie surplus today which I may 'bank' for later next week... I'm on vacation
Now it's time to clean, do laundry, vacuum and cook before my BF arrives tomorrow.0 -
Mileage for 6/21: 2.6 miles
Sounds like some good Saturday activities being enjoyed by all.
I had a nice time visiting at the reunion, then went up to the City of Rocks for a nostalgic picture taking trip. For those of you who are interested in unusual places, I have posted a few of my pictures. It is so much busier there now than it used to be. It has become a very popular destination for rock climbing and repelling. I had to include some pictures of the prickly pear in bloom. They don't bloom every year. They only bloom if there has been enough rain and other conditions are right.
Hope your weekend continues to be good. Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
It was a good day for exercise and food today. I manage to eat 2 meals and 3 snacks and stayed under calories without eating back the exercise calories. I swam over 1 mile this morning then went out to breakfast. Then took a nap this afternoon due to exhaustion. I was going to hit the gym and put in 5-6 miles on the spin bike but just did not have the energy to do so today. The week finally caught with me- late nights and early mornings don't work well with me. Tomorrow, I will bike ride in the morning. I did take a walk around the mall tonight but not exactly sure of the distance, close to 1 mile after dinner.
I did see the scale drop this morning, so I hope this is a good sign that I will start losing weight again. It could also be due to TOM and just a routine drop due to water weight. Right now I will take it.
Karen-Hope you have fun at the wedding and that you are Not getting a sinus infection.
Kaye- Glad you had a great reunion and the pictures look wonderful, a very beautiful area.
Cath- Great to see you checking in again.
Kjeffries- Great to see you back as well. You can get back on track.
Musica- Sorry about your loss. Just remember that you Uncle would want you to enjoy the great outdoors and to keep walking for exercise. Good job doing the aerobics today.
tlh- sorry for your loss as well. Good luck with the move.
jt- Great job with the yard sales and finding the clothes.
Tanya- Sounds like DOMS- They don't happen all the time but when they do it can be painful. You most likely woke up some unused muscles or gave them a tougher workout.
Littleshadow- Sorry that you are under so much stress right now. The bright side is you can starting walking for 20 minutes. It may not seem like much but it does increase your mobility. I am guessing that you can do a mile in that time if not more. You will survive the summer and will find a way to make it work for you.0 -
Just a friendly reminder to update your mileage goals by Tuesday. We are going strong so keep up miles coming.0

Sunday Share: I'm Heidi from Eastern Canada, 37 yr old mom of 2 great boys with some cognitive and behavioural challenges. I work full time during the school year, cooking for 57 kids at a daycare and filling in during lunch hours in the classrooms. I am lucky enough to be able to take the summer off to be home with my kids. Currently on restricted exercise due to a bum ankle, but my torture of choice is distance walking - I have completed 2 half-marathons in the last 9 months and will begin training for a third in July if I get the go ahead from my physiotherapist. I love chocolate, zombies, Game of Thrones, and am known for my twisted sense of humor. I am a major introvert and tend to go MIA on here a lot, as I find keeping up with everyone exhausting! But I always find myself coming back because it's a great group of people.

Hi Everyone,
Not used these forums before.. but also have been failing extravagantly at losing weight, so thought maybe getting in with a community that would be supportive would help - and this looks fun!
I am gearing up to do the Isle of Wight Challenge at end of August (which is walking 106km .. which I've foolishly pledged to do in under 20 hours as part of my fundraising for The Stroke Association... ) - but I've gotten so very out of shape, that I'm worried I won't manage it.
So today I started walking distances again (I often walk to/from work, which is 5km away, but it's not the same as distance stuff really..)
Today was the first day I started tracking - so..
22/6 - 30km
Took me a little over 7 hours (including stopping for lunch and to look up where I was several times - because I kept getting lost in North London..) which won't do come August....0 -

omnica- Did you want to join our June challenge? If so, what is your mileage goal? Just let me know and I will add you to our list.
Robin- The teacher who was suppose to help me bailed which was frustrating. It took a lot longer to finish packing than I thought which was annoying. Breakfast went well and I did get back a little early but the packing was not done until 2:30 when I finally left the building exhausted.
Today was a great day for exercise today. I biked 15 miles this morning, then I ran for 3 miles plus walked 1 mile as a cool down. The run was not fast but a good pace where I could get my heart rate up but not lose my breath. I think I finished the run in about 40 minutes. The timer I was using got messed up so I lost all my data-:grumble: :explode: The time for the last mile was looking good and relatively consistent for me so I was happy with that. Food wise I did very well today provided I don't snack to much tonight all should be good.
I am a middle school science teacher so now I am officially done for the summer. I am looking forward to having fun this summer and taking a few classes. I hope to organize a few people to do something active at least one day a week. Kayaking, paddling boarding, biking etc. My goal is to lose 10 lbs this summer so I can break the plateau that has been hanging around for the past year or two. I will be making changes in my meals and changing things up so I will see what works. I started this process 4 years ago this week when I joined a gym for the first time. That summer all I did was walk the track, which worked well but progress was slow. School started and the weight came back. Then in Dec. I started working with a trainer and the progress really started. I needed someone to hold me accountable and to teach the correct way to exercise and how to mix things up. It worked the first year or so, I lost 67 lbs to basically get under 200. Now I am under 200 most days with a few exceptions. Now my goal is get down to 188. I still want to go lower but small steps will work for me.
I started to engage in a variety of exercise activities including: walking, biking, rock climbing, swimming, running, kayaking and I hope to add paddle boarding this summer. To prevent boredom, I like to mix my activities and try new things. The past year I have participated in 5K runs and indoor triathlons. Four years ago those accomplishments were not possible, now they are due to my improved fitness level and confidence.0 -
Happy Sunday everyone! Headed to church this morning and then a final run to the store -- always something I forgot to pack. At 1:00, I drove Jacob and his friend to a weeklong church camp that will be themed with wilderness survival and doing things the Christian way. They were off running around before I turned the van out of the camp! It was a long day for Emma (2 1/2 hour drive one way). When we got back to town, we headed to the store and bought the supplies for her b-day cake. She turns 8 tomorrow and wants a Frozen themed cake. We'll see how it goes!!!! Now she's off for a final run around with her friends before hunkering down for the night.
My name is Tracy. I am 41 years old and live with my husband and two kids (Jacob - 13 and Emma - 8) in Bismarck, ND. I enjoy scrapbooking, reading and travelling in my spare time when money allows. I work from home doing quality improvement for a life insurance company (basically when people complain about the service or product they receive, I try to figure out how to avoid the same problem in the future). I've been with this company for 16 1/2 years and basically enjoy my work. I love my pay, flexibility and vacation time. However, I do miss the personal interaction from being in an office with co-workers. In one month, we move into our new home and I will then have an official office that I can close the door to each day (WHOO-HOO!!!! ).
I've really struggled this past year...I lost 30 pounds in 4 months and have been yo-yoing up and down the same last 5 pounds for a year now. I know what the problem is (eating beyond my calorie goal) and I just can't seem to get it under control. I have been working out with my sister and a trainer for 11 weeks now and really enjoy getting to do things I never thought possible (jumping lunges is one!! ) Now if I would just get a move on with the eating, I know I can do this.
As I was driving home today, I thought about the fact that my dad died at 63. He did not have a weight problem, but it still made me think that if I don't get a move on, it could be that I'm 2/3 of the way through my life. I don't want that!!! I WILL DO THIS!!! I've got to for the sake of my kids and my future grandkids.
Off to bake a cake -- the great part is that it will be one cake for about 15 people, so no leftovers to tempt me. :blushing:0 -
good evening everyone. I had a nice productive day. Got lots of fruits and veggies prepped and ready to just grab and eat for the week so hopefully the kids and I will gear more towards them now that they are convenient. I spent the rest of the dayy outside getting lots of little projects done around the house. I have been making a list of projects to do over the next few months in an attempt to keep me busy and help stop some of the mindless boredom eating I am prone to. I did so well on my eating today without a bunch of snacks I was able to have a yummy baked potato with my steak. I LOVE baked potatoes with sour cream and chives fresh from my garden Well the kids took off to a their friends house for the evening so I am going to let my inner nerd out for the evening with some video games. Have a great night everyone.:flowerforyou: :drinker: :drinker:

Omnicia - welcome to our thread - I saw that was your very first post - quite brave of you! :flowerforyou: Joining any thread is wonderful activity as it keeps you away from munching of course! I think this thread will provide you with a group of friends to support and guide you. We're all in different places on the weight loss scales so there are some of us who've just started and some of us who've come along and lost a great deal and are almost at their goal - so many voices of experience to help! come back soon!
Sunday Share! Hi - I'm Ellen and I started this thread since I had 120 lbs at least to lose and wanted to find like minded people. I had encountered only people who just needed to lose 20 or 30 lbs before this. Once I started this thread I met many wonderful supportive people and it has just kept going on its own.
I love in Omaha, Nebraska and I'm divorced, 63, and have no kids,. I have always lived in the midwest and love it. I am retired now, but had a long career, first in Medical Equipment Sales, when I did travel all over the country and lived quite a life. Then I returned to Omaha, got married, and started working at a major hospital for the head of neurosurgery as his assistant. I did that for 19 years, then took a position working for the head of the Cancer Center.
A message to young women: I am retired now, but must work as I have no Retirement Savings I was fleeced by my ex. My ex-husband hid money from me. If you have any suspicions of that, get on it right away. If he uses excuses such as Union Dues are paid in cash, do not believe it. If he has "friends" who will do "the work" for cash, don't buy into it. Money starts disappearing that way. Don't accept a receipt from these various things for cash. Demand a person or service accept check or credit card. Lastly, don't fall in love with a "bad boy" who happens to have a lot of connections. He drained my Retirement Annuity behind my back.
As the old saying goes "If you look around and don't recognize who the fool in the room is, its you!"0 -
Just popping by to update my miles... I got 3.1 for June 22.
Hope everyone has a great night.0 -
Hi everyone! :flowerforyou:
@muzica--so sorry to hear of your losses.
I've caught up on posts, but am going to skip personals right now. I noticed quite a few folks posting about being stuck or stalled in their weight loss efforts along with some good plans to get things moving again. I'm in the same boat right now, and will put in a new plan (with both food and fitness) when I return from vacation.
For those of you who aren't sure what you need to do, just keep trying to change up calorie intakes or fitness approaches--don't give up! Equally important--please give each change a chance to actually work. I think most of the veterans on here will agree that it can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks for our bodies to adjust to any change in calorie allowance or fitness regiment. Therefore, don't think your change isn't working if you don't see immediate results--patience, Grasshoppers.

The wedding I attended in Menomonie, WI was really lovely. It was at a small vineyard which was a gorgeous setting, and the weather cooperated 100%. The bride looked beautiful--that's her in my new profile picture! My toast went well too--I had something written out, but managed to give it without reading from the page, and all of my friends said mine was the best of the 5 toasts--they aren't biased at all. We had a great time dancing, and afterwards a large group of the wedding party and friends joined the bride and groom at a bar in town where we proceeded to dance some more. Didn't get back to our hotel until almost 2:30, so a pretty late night. Today was mostly spent in the car driving home though I did get in a quick walk with gunner this evening.
Tomorrow is packing day, and we leave early Tuesday morning for the DR. I'm so excited!!!
I'm at 47 miles for my total so far--with one day left, I don't think I will make the 80 miles. That's okay--I will try for 3 tomorrow to make it an even 50.

Well... we'll see if I make my goal... a week to go! :laugh:0 -
Hello,
I've been very ill with a sinus infection and haven't been keeping up but I think I'm starting to get back now.
Went to the gym yesterday for the first time in a week, did 30 mins. Feeling much better today and did a zumba class followed by a 10 mile seaside hike! Maybe overdid it but I'm glad I got some exercise in. Meeting with a personal trainer on tuesday to talk about possibly doing a few session to teach me the basics of strenght.
Will catch up soon. Hope you are all well.0 -
Back at work and my email alone will take me hours to read. Hope everyone has a great day!

@Karen~Love the new profile pic, both you and the bride looked lovely. I imagine, as a lit teacher, that your toast was over the top . I’m excited for your vacation! Also, great advice for those changing things up a bit to get that scale moving again.
@L2T~It always amazes me how many emails I have when I return for vacation, takes me days to get caught up usually.
AFM~Not much to report, didn’t do much over the weekend. The pool/block party in my neighborhood was canceled yesterday due to rain; think it’s being rescheduled for next weekend. I hope I make my mileage goal, didn’t get much in over the weekend—not sure I can get in 20 miles but I will try. I can't cook right now, so its been a world of frozen foods (which I hate) last couple of weeks--as a result my calories/macros are low which I thought would really impact weight loss, interestingly enough the scale is creeping downwards . I'll be glad when cast comes off and I can return to cooking, though. Having some minor complications from my surgery, so see doc this morning to have my hand evaluated.
