How is it possible to lose 25 - 50 lbs in 2 weeks?

I lost just over 10 pounds in my first week - but I think it is 100% fair to say that it was a combination of water weight and dropping the soda (I was drinking 6-8 sodas a day and quit cold turkey). I also cut out a ton of sodium and other water retaining food items.
Since then, I've been averaging a more likely (and safer) 1.5-2 pounds a week.
Sounds like me. I lost about 14 my first 2 weeks. But that was water weight and no more soda as well. Plus I went from *probably* 3000 calories a day to 1900 a day. So that's probably why. I also have been steady about 1-2 pounds a week since then. I've never lost more then 2 and I'm fine with that. I have been told more then 2 is unhealthy0 -
deadly virus-->intensive care-->almost die-->lose 50 pounds in 2 weeks
no thank you0 -
The most I've lost in a week is about 10lb. And I'm still paying for it.
Last week of a contest I only ate some vegetables a day for a whole week.
As soon as I got of of the diet I gained back 6lb,.. and the scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks.
So,.. If I had stayed with my regular diet I would have lost 8lb at 2lb a week and not regained anything.
Making my total loss 4lb less than I could have lost if I hadn't done the crazy diet stint of a week.0 -
Did you know that gullible isn't even a real word?
Seriously! Google it!0 -

So...be male, extremely obese, get on a TV show and do nothing but diet and exercise for a week. And note that was week one - it seems like you often lose the most the first week you start a diet.0 -
I've heard A LOT of people say that they did a kind of diet or whatever and lost about 25 - 50 pounds in just 2 weeks!
What are those diets?
Has anyone experienced this? If so, were able to keep it off?
Thanks!
I mean, if you lost a limb or two, sure.
Otherwise no. No one should ever lose that much in as little as two weeks. If you do it's definitely not healthy and you'll just gain a large portion of it back. I lost a ton all at once because of a weeklong hiking trip and i actually have strech-marks because of how quickly and how hard i bloated back up afterwards.0 -
I've only been logging for 25 days, and i am down 17 pounds. I wasn't even extremely overweight to start with, i weighed 208 at 6'. All i did so far is cut my caloried back to around 1700 or so, do about 30 minutes of cardio a day, and don't eat back my exercise calories. Admittedly, i lost about 10 pounds in 1 week, so a lot of it was just initial shock and water weight. Since then it has been 7 pounds in 3 weeks.
I suppose you could just starve yourself for a month and start a crazy exercise routine that could just cause all sorts of crazy things to happen in your body, and then 25-50 pounds wouldn't be terrible surprising. But two weeks? They are either lying about it, or have done something crazy extreme that should never be done.0 -
I lost probably 25lbs in a week or two by giving birth.
Do that - get knocked up - then give birth. BAM 25lbs gone.0 -
I lost 40 pounds in two weeks this time last year. On Aug 2nd I weighed in at a staggering 240ish. By the 14th of August, I was close to 200 lbs.
As far as keeping it off - I mean, I still have to carry about 25 pounds around but as soon as he learns to walk, I won't have to carry him so much.
ETA - DARN you poster above for beating me to a baby comment0 -

Even that isn't true. If you read some of the "behind the scenes" stuff on Biggest Loser, you learn that they rarely weigh themselves every seven days. You know those "weeks" when everybody on the show only loses a couple of pounds? Yeah. There were probably only 3 days between weigh-ins. And those "weeks" when everyone loses a whole lot of weight? Yeah. That might have been 2 or 3 weeks between weigh-ins.
The contestants are basically put on severely restricted diets with their meals being prepared for them. They also work out 6-8 hours per day with full-time trainers. Then you add in the fake "weeks," and you've got results that are physically impossible to reproduce outside of "reality" television.0 -
Those are the kind of diets where someone who is considerably overweight go from a very high sodium and carbohbydrate intake to almost no sodium and very little carbohydrate.
If you go from a sodium intake of 6000mg (easy to hit if you eat fast food) to a sodium intake of 1000mg (easy to do if you eat "clean" or eat very little) and on top of that you go from 400g of carbs a day to 30g of carbs a day the following will happen.
Your body will flush water like CRAZY to maintain the same sodium concentration in your blood. If previously you had a high sodium intake your body retained a lot of water to offset this. Typically you can expect 2 pounds of water retained for every 400mg of sodium to maintain the correct concentration. When switching to low sodium your body compensates for the lower sodium levels by flushing out that water to keep the amount of sodium to water constant. The result is massive weight loss (from water).
For carbs carbohydrates get converted to glycogen for energy storage in your muscle. Glycogen requires a lot of water for solubilization. If you go to a very carb depleted diet your body will start to scavange the glycogen and as that is depleted the water previously required gets flushed as well. Again, massive weight loss (from water).
You do both and you are already overweight you can flush out a good 25+ pounds of water over 2 weeks. Couple to that some actual fat loss and yeah you can pull those kind of numbers.
Its water weight though. Soon as you have some carbs to replenish your glycogen or have one sodium rich meal that water will come right back.0 -
The reason why in the biggest loser contestants lose so much weight in the first week is exactly the reasons I listed above.
Moving to a low sodium diet and carb restriction results in a ton of retained water being lost. When they drop 30+ pounds probably 25 of that is water which is why later on their weight losses go to more like 4-6 pounds per "week". Week is in quotes because a "week" in The Biggest Loser isn't necessarily 7 days.0 -
I had a friend who lost 180 pounds in a month!! She got a divorce. That's about the ONLY way to lose that much weight so quickly.
ha ha ha, best diet EVER!0 -

I lost 15 lbs in 4 hours when I had my first dialysis treatment. I can safely say it was all water weight.0

I doubt the OP cares since this is from 3 years ago.0

Castration will do it too.0

disclaimer of do not do:
well break it down to math.
my BMR is around 2600-2700 calories. So if I eat zero calories for 2 weeks. 14x2600=36400/3500= 10 pounds
SO I would need to lose a additional 15 pounds through exercise without eating anything.
I am sure that would be impossible.0 -
Liposuction?
Note: It's sad when I have to edit a single word post... /le sigh
And I got necroed!!!!!! *experiences self dissapointment0 -
