MFP without friends

I don't think it's sad that you don't have friends on here. I think it's awesome. As soon as you add some "friends," you'll find out that they post about their lives all of the time. Like ALL of the time. So many details. I came here for some encouragement and to encourage others in return, not learn every little detail about their life (isn't that what twitter and/or facebook is for? I ask b/c I don't have accounts). Seriously, I don't intend offense when I say that. But we know each other in imaginary land (the internet) and I doubt I'll ever meet one of my "friends" in real life or write them a sincere letter or have a phone conversation or go anywhere beyond sarcastic remarks about sex spreadsheets or food porn or whatever, and that doesn't really qualify as a satisfying relationship to me.
So get those friends, if you want. Don't be surprised if you start removing some of them after 3-6 months because you aren't the kind of person who is on here to be uber-social. If you are, then fill out that profile, load some humorous pictures of yourself, begin posting snarky comments on the forums and make some "friends." Works for some, not for me.
Mini-rant: why do people who are already cut and muscular and hot go on this site and flirt and post themselves shirtless or in a bikini? You've already WON! Go to facebook and do the online flirting / dating thing that I hear everyone else does there, not here. I thought this site was for fatties like me who want encouragement to get healthier, not to be social or flaunt my abs.
Huh? So you start here 100lbs overweight and over the years become a ripped beast and you're now supposed to leave? What kind of insane logic is that? It's MyFitnessPal, not MyFatnessPal. What is more encouraging than seeing all of the amazing successes people have had here? If all of the fit people left, who would be the motivation or inspiration?0 -

OP (and for any lurkers), here's the link to the Eat Train Progress group just in case.

The social side is a slippery slope. Some people end up ONLY socializing and not actually dieting or working out.
WHO would do this?? People are SICK. Sick, I say.
Wait..... you mean I have to actually DO something. Never-mind, I'm out.
Do? You mean like sit here and drink?0 -
Yeah, I guess I've misunderstood the point of this site for years. Rather than social media, hourly updates, or dating (which I thought were all covered by sites specializing in those things), this was for people trying to get in shape.
Much like the grocery store is meant for buying food, the book store is meant for buying books, and the beach is meant for contracting sand fleas... while everything might have a predominant "Purpose" on display, you never know WHERE you might meet someone that becomes a lifelong friend or the love of your life or a parasitic mole crab. I have indeed met the love of my life on MFP and two amazing friends through Match.com. Did I expect that? No... but that's the thing about life, it just happens. You don't get to plan it.I thought people who were already in shape went to bodybuilding sites, running sites, cycling sits, whatever site featured the type of fitness they were already very well into. I consider this the Wii fit of web sites, so general fitness for beginners, not specialized fitness / photo forums for people with washboard abs and bikini bodies.
While I can understand your initial thought, this website is quite good for tracking your caloric intake, macros, and even micronutrients to an extent. You can also choose to read only very specific posts about the exercise or diet concerns you have, search out the truly intelligent Forum Users such as SideSteel and Sara, and stick only to fitness.
Yet, you are CHOOSING to engage in forum conversation. Life is full of choices. Don't expect people to agree with yours at all times, it's unreasonable. If it's not painfully obvious, I am not the most tech or internet savvy.
Clearly, it's a misunderstanding on my part.
Get specific about why I need the counseling and I'll absolutely consider it further.
If you've considered it, it may not be a bad idea. And that's all I have to say on that.0 -

Hi there, aedreana here. I don't send friend requests but I accept friend requests sent my way. You are welcome to read my profile and if you decide you'd want me as a friend, please feel free to send a friend request to me. P.S. My profile contains valuable information as to what kind of stuff to be on guard against on the forums. There is a clique on here that thinks that they own the forums.

So now with my honest post...I add people...with like interests because I stress eat and talking to them about silly things destresses me. They are fun....I have met some of them in real life and made honest to goodness real friends here. They are people with like interests...people that like to do awesome things that none of my other IRL friends ever want to do. This site has opened my life up to a bunch of great new people!0

I'm shirtless because it's like 95 degrees outside and I'm schvitzing. Wanna smell my pits?0 -
Well I only have one friend (who rocks by the way ) and really only moved on to MFP after using a google spreadsheet for years in order to save time.
It's just a plus that I happen to be a white male :drinker: .
If you're not measuring and posting about your bowel movements then feel free to add me. I track daily and will give an old thumbs up. Working on coughing up encouraging words as well0 -

Actually, it's not just for peopel "who want encouragement to get healthier," it's a calorie tracker. People track calories for numerous reasons, including but not limited to: gaining weight, losing weight and maintaining weight.
It's not a contest either, so no one has "already WON!" And, yes, it is a social site. Why are your panties in a bunch about people showing off their hard work and socializing? If you don't like being social then maybe... don't be social? Plus, if you don't go into the forums or have friends, you'll never have to see anyone flaunting their abs.
*Edited because I sounded like an *kitten*.0 -

Either put on a shirt or GTFO.
....I'm kidding, GTFI here!0 -
^points above. Take a breather, come back in a day and read that...and also realize that you are hijacking some guy's thread to rant about what's obviously your personal issues. Sorry for the derailment OP
you know.. i actually appreciate it
i figure the idea of letting the social concept of the site in.. will include opening it up to hear peoples opinions on all subjects.. whether they are popular opinions or not.
over time, my FL may be grow and get weeded down to just ones that I feel offer valuable contributions.. but I'm still open to hearing what anyone and everyone has to say..0
