Allison thanks for the words of wisdom on the tape measurements. I would like to keep track just to see if I am moving down the inches or up and use that as another indication that things are going in the right direction. You really can't have too many cheering sections on this journey!
Sore today to good work outs yesterday. How can pain a be a good thing?
    Wish for today
be grateful for what is in surrounding me at all times.

Also measured my body fat and it has gone from 38% to 35% in the last 6 months. That makes me feel great cause there is a lot of fat that I can see on this body!

Not sure if I mentioned it but took pics yesterday in my gym clothes to show body shape and fat areas; hopefully will be a picture story of weight loss and better body contours.

Also, my blood pressure seems to be holding steady at 105/70 which is really good. If it keeps up with my half dose of meds as directed by my dr. that is so wonderful to have a lower dosage. Been on meds since I was 50 so this can be a positive turn of events. Keeping am and pm track of bp for a month then will get back with dr......low blood pressure fatigue is almost all gone!

    Thanks for letting me share!

Oh my goodness still having a really rough week. Monday night I almost passed out at a student's house. It was quite embarrassing and very upsetting. Thankfully this is my student I have been with for several years and have gotten to know the family quite well. It made it slightly less awkward.

Last night I had really bad insomnia. I finally fell asleep sometime after 2 am but rolled over during the night in my sleep and RLP was in full force waking me up. Brian said he heard me moaning in pain. Then this morning I had really severe morning sickness (violent). Thank goodness it is a short work week this week due to the Jewish holidays. I have a lot of questions and concerns to ask my doctor about tomorrow for my monthly appointment.

Thanks everyone for the kind words about my RLP. I am hoping for some relief soon from all my aches and pains. On a good note, I am doing quite well with gaining weight. So far I have only gained 6 lbs out of my 15. I am quite pleased so far with that.

Hansea - That's the thing. As long as you ask first before grabbing and I give you permission I don't mind. But I don't like when people tell me what they "need" to do when it comes to my own body. That crosses some major boundaries for me. Especially since I was already achy that day. Last thing I wanted was to be groped against my will especially by someone who I have a horrible history with.

Laurie - Yes. I spoke to all my aides last week and this week to let them know what was going on with me. I made them swear not to tell anyone as I still have not spoken to district offices yet regarding my pregnancy. I was advised by my boss (the one who doubles as my agency boss and supervisor in district) to wait until October. (I did let the school nurse know as well just as a precaution if anything should happen while I am at work.) My aides have been absolutely wonderful and really stepped up to the plate for me. They are so adorable, they yell at me if I try to do too much. They rush over even if I am doing something like rearranging the chairs in the room and exclaim "I'll do that." Their support really means a lot to me. I am very lucky to work with such a nice group of caring women.

Marsha - Hope you ear pain is better by now.
Thanks. I have been telling Brian from day one that we have to set boundaries with her as well as my mother. Thankfully my mom has been backing down and respecting boundaries. Every so often she oversteps but is easily redirected.

Alison - His grandmother was so adorable. We gave her a bottle of her favorite Irish whiskey along with the pin and a few other things. She opened it, laughed and said "I have a bottle I can put this is and keep next to my bed." She is so adorable. Brian and I were amazed at her party. Every time we hear from his mother she gives him the guilt trip saying "God knows how long she will be with us." and acts like she is on her death bed. Sure she is 100, it takes her a little more time to get up and she walks more slowly with a cane but she is one spunky lady. I adore and admire her!

Katrena - I really look forward to rest days. I am still blown away at how tired I get. We went shopping Saturday morning, then I came home and cooked my meal to bring to the party. I ended up laying down on the bed for a few minutes and passed out for over an hour. Normally I would have no problem with something like that. I am looking forward to the days where I have normal energy and stamina again.

Robin - thanks. I am really impressed with myself as well. In the past, I would bite my tongue and allow her to get away with that kind of thing to avoid confrontation. I think pregnancy has changed me slightly for the better. I have definitely been doing a lot of thinking and realize I have to be more assertive in certain situations.

Tanya - So sorry to hear about your accident. How crazy that the employee hit another car in the lot. Hope you get your car back soon!

soosun - Wahoo for taking pictures and measurements. I did that too and I found it really motivating. I originally took weekly measurements and found that didn't work for me. Instead I switched to measurements the first of every month with pictures. From my own experience I found I decreased in sized from all over my body rather than one spot. I had certain body parts that stayed the same from one month to the next then saw I decrease down the line. Another thing I noticed was sometimes I would have large decreases in one are and a small increase in another. As long as I saw an over all decrease I didn't get too hung up on it. I knew I was on track through using tools such as my diary, the scale and pictures as well to measure my progress. My suggestion is for you to play around with it and see what works best for you. I think that is a good goal to increase your weights in October. I started lighter too then gradually increased as I got more comfortable. You can do it!

Susan - Congrats on rededicating yourself and on the loss. I am so proud of you!!! Hope the convention goes smoothly.

Happy Wed- Well I have to study for algebra test tonight so my wish is that I can get a passing grade on the test. Math is the hardest for me it took me 1.5 hours to do 10 simple questions lastnight. My teacher said the review/practice test should not take more than 1hr 45mins so I am hoping I complete it.

@Robins- thanks for the wall thoughts. I am leaning towards a Honda element or accord, Nissian maxima or altima. I know these cars will last a while for me if I find a good one.
@Tanya- I lol when I read about the employee accident. Glad you got a car to drive.
    @All new people welcome.

Me and my son are headed to New Orleans in 2 weeks for a much needed vacation. Anyone know of some great local places we should eat? I heard Mother's Deli has to be on the list.

Hello, new to mfp, looking to loss 100ibs now that my total hip replacement surgery is completed. It has been about six weeks and can walk upright and around the block three times a day in my complex.
Looking to get my eating on the right track and hopefully complete eating my total calorie intake daily. The problem is that I feel like I have eaten enough when my mfp counter says I haven't. Both work in progress... =)

Good Day food wise. Worked out with trainer and it completely zapped me. Didnt help that I didnt get to sleep last night until 430am. Dr gave me a double vitamin shot, a flu shot and told me my sugar was borderline, though I havent been eating sweets or carbs for the past week and havent eaten many sweets all month.

I notice that when I work out with weights, I get hardly any credit for the workout. That doesnt seem fair.

I am really struggling to get a hold on the calorie consumption. I went back and counted and it was difficult to tell because I didnt log everyday but it seems I only stayed within about 7 out of 23. I assumed if i didnt log, that I went over.

I'm starting to use Weight Watcher Frozen meals. Hate that because of the sodium but it does seem to keep me better in line. Most days I only went over 1200 by less than 200 calories.

Due to lack of sleep, I haven't been consistent with water aerobics but someone suggested today that I should renew my certification and start teaching water aerobics again as that would motivate me to go, bring in income (very small) and get me in the water. Not a bad idea. I did get some sleeping pills from Dr but I really dont want to take those if possible. My trainer told me about a natural product that I will try.

He also strongly urged me to go back on the HGH drops which helped me lose some weight. I told him my concerns but he didnt agree with my concerns. Any information any of you have about Human Growth Hormone and weight loss would be appreciated.

My grandson moved close by and they have visited everyday this week, which is wonderful. Get to see the great grands more. So great.

Tanya - So great about your car. Glad the insurance company cooperated with the rental company.

big pawpaw - Congrats on recovery from hip surgery. Just log and post and you will do fine

Holly, Enjoy New Orleans. Havent been in long time. Most places are great

Nettie,So sorry to hear about your problems with NLP. How distressing. Hope everything heals soon, How do you get to teach in homes.?

I try to take an hour a day and listen to a meditation tape and it energizes me. Today I left home at 10am and didnt stop until 7 and I just HAD to lie down and listen to that tape. No way could I go another step. Part of my day included a tough one hour workout with my trainer and a tough one hour with my therapist. Not sure which was harder.

Morgori. Enjoyed the Helen Keller quote

Kah68 - Your weight loss is so impressive. Countdown to vacation. You deserve it

Lives2travel. Doing well with calorie counts

Bohemian - Enjoy your concert. Will look her up. Clear Lake is nice.

SkinnyJeans. I never knew teachers spent so much time grading. There must be a better way

Susan - I am so proud of you. You have your priorities straight and the NYC trip sounds wonderful. Please include me the next time you guys rendezvous

Sooson - Of course you are doing it this time. You are focusing on all the right things and everything will fall into place. By the Way, you look wonderful

cblue - You workout does sound grueling but I am looking to the day when I can do that well. I asked my trainer today when I could ramp up my training and she said we are doing this today. She added 5 lbs to the weights. All the sessions seem difficult. They are testing my adrenals next week

    Hi all! :flowerforyou:

Another day of no personals. Doing pretty good with the grading--only 10 papers left. Today was an early release with shortened class periods, so I had very little time to grade during my preps and lunch. Got a few journals done, then graded 10 papers at starbucks after school. No walk with gunner (don't worry--his dad took him  ). Our weather is gorgeous, so it's killing me that I'm missing perfect outdoor running weather, but I'm determined to have these papers done tomorrow.

Food has been 'meh' for the past couple of days. Still planning to be in the black before leaving on Saturday.

    Wed. Wish:
I wish kids would learn not to cheat on their homework. Yesterday, I collected the first class of AP journals. Started grading the very 1st journal and found plagiarism in the 2nd question. Seriously!?!?! It's a journal--the only way they can lose points on it is to not answer completely or cheat and copy from another source. I don't even care if their answers are correct as long as they are thinking about the literature and trying to support their answers. Needless to say, I was livid! :explode:

Told my next 2 AP classes, and before the end of the day word got around that "someone" had cheated and Ms. M caught it. The culprit made some excuse to come talk to me about something else, so I told him about the zero he received. He fessed up to cheating on the 1 question and asked if he was losing points on all of the other questions as well. I told him he has a zero for the whole journal b/c I'm not going to waste my time checking all of his other questions for plagiarism. I know he wasn't happy about it, but he accepted the consequence without a fight. This morning after class, he apologized to me which is actually quite a step for him. I had him last year as well, and he can be quite immature for a senior. I hope he learned his lesson, but time will tell.

Tuesday = 25 journals NOT DONE + 6 essays DONE
Wed = 25 journals NOT DONE + 14 essays (no gym) SO FAR 10
    Thurs = 17 journals + 6 essays

    Grading Goals:
    1. 57/67 AP essays
    2. 20/67 AP journals

    Exercise Goals:
    Mon--walk gunner DONE
Tues--walk gunner NOT DONE + gym NOT DONE
    Wed--walk gunner NOT DONE
    Thurs--walk gunner + gym
    Fri--walk gunner
    Sat--travel to NY
    Sun--T2T 5k!!!

    September Challenge:
Meet my TDEE -10% to -15% = 1680-1780 calories. I will keep my running tally over or short up until my trip to meet laurie and susan. Last month I came in a few hundred over. This month I'm determined to be under when I get on the plane to head to NYC on Sept. 27th!!

Cumulative calorie surplus (shortage) = -260
    100g of protein = 13/30 days

Had a great swim tonight since I don't have work to the Jewish holy day. Now, I just need to clean up and hit sack.

Tomorrow will be busy preparing for the trip, packing and grading papers. I have about 60 that I want done before Friday. Doable if I make it a priority. It will be a quick grade with only a couple of questions graded.

Dear KJ, you have lost a lot of weight.
Frozen meals are great, but have you thought about trying the Atkins frozen dinners. I like them because they have a lot of protein and are quite filling. Carbs turn to sugar and if you have too much sugar it turns to fat, ergo weight gain. When I compare carb and sugar in ww dinners and atkins, atkins just seem healthier.
You said you are staying away from sweets and sugar but there is a lot of sucrose and fructose in fruits and those sugar grams can add up. Try counting all sugars, select fructose over sugrose for fruit selection and count those sugar grams....I notice that the food tracker keeps track of carbs, sugars, and fats for each meal. Not trying to be pushy, just my two cents.
Still and all impressive to lose 19 lbs!

    Hello all,

I have over 100lbs to lose and its been a goal for awhile, I've been over weight most my life. Its something I keep restarting and then falling out of. Now that I have a child, its really something I am wanting to do so I can keep up with him! :) I weighed about 275 before I was pregnant and actually kept a healthy weight all through. Then I lost another 30 lbs after breastfeeding/etc... Long story short here I am over 300lbs which REALLY bothers me. Right now my program is keeping track of my calorie count and exercising every day. I do yoga (for better body movement/ and to help relieve back issues), and some kind of aerobic exercise. I change it up a lot because one of my issues is I get bored. That's why a treadmill is not for me....lol Anyway I need support/motivation as well...I don't want this to be another fallout! I just want to be healthier and that is my goal, for more energy and movement so I can do things with my kid and not be slowed down..Alright if you manage to read this..thanks!! :)

Missyblueeyez- Welcome! You've found a great thread to be a part of on MFP. I've been on MFP for two years and joined this thread at the beginning of this year. I've found that checking in on here has been a great way to keep me from giving up, even though my weight loss has stalled over the summer...in the past, I would quit for a while only to have to start over in a few months--after gaining weight back, of course. This year, I'm hanging in there and haven't gained anything back, and I'm hoping for a loss this week! Just keep checking in on here, the more you post, the better we get to know you. :flowerforyou:

Skinny- I was feeling similarly frustrated at work yesterday! Long story made short: We had an incident with a missing specimen last week. After searching at the three locations where it could've/should've been, it was never found. So, we had to have the patient come back to recollect. When something like that happens, you have to "quality trak" it, which I did in a very factual way. Later, someone from one of the other sites also did a "quality trak" about the incident, but I think it was in an effort to save face and put some blame on us. Our coordinator sent us a message asking about it and giving us the story they told....a pack of lies!! It made me so angry! :explode: At least your cheater is in school and is still developing his brain. We're adults....who are supposed to be professional and accountable. Liars and cheaters! GRR!

Katrena- My husband has had borderline sugars, too. He doesn't eat many sweets either. We met with an RN specialist who went over his diet and exercise with him, and talked about how he needs to cut carbs to control his sugar. There are a lot of carb sources that aren't necessarily sweets or pasta/bread. His favorite vegetable is corn...lots of carbs there. Hope you figure out a way to get your sugar down.

Bigpawpaw- Welcome! Keep logging and checking in. And listen to your body. Don't eat more just because MFP says so if you're not hungry. Part of this journey is rediscovering what hunger feels like and figuring out when we really need to eat versus when we're just eating out of emotion or boredom. :flowerforyou:

Holly- Good luck on your math test!

Nettie- Hope your doctor answered all your questions at your appointment and that it went well. Hope your week starts getting better today!

Kah- Recovery steak sounds great, too!

Allison- Hope Kate Bush was wonderful!

Susan- So proud of you and what you're accomplishing this month! You rock!

AFM- Whoa. Wednesday flew by and I went to bed at the same time as the kids last night! My Wed Wish is that the interview for our open position at work goes well and we can get it filled. Then I won't have to work extra hours anymore!
Thursday Truth: I don't want to go to work today on my day off. I need to get my house cleaned! It's a nightmare in here and it makes me crabby to look at it.

Thursday truths: I have *not* been studying properly this week. I've kept up with logging, with the house, cooking healthy food, going out and doing stuff, but my studying's behind. I'd like to manage to do all the things I'm supposed to at the same time!

Soosun: Some pain is good if it's muscle tiredness; it shows you've been working and you're building up those muscles. And well done on the body fat count -- that's a real achievement!

Nettie: I slept so badly when I was pregnant with my daughter that at one point I said "I can't wait till the baby arrives and I get a good night's sleep". Ha ha ha ha ha. Silly me. To be fair, I have had plenty of sleep since, but she's 17 now!

Holly: New Orleans is such a wonderful place! Have a brilliant time!

Big Pawpaw: welcome! This is a great community for those of us who are in it for the long haul. If you're not hungry then don't eat more, but do make sure you're measuring everything accurately. Sometimes MFP gives too many calories for exercise so some of us only eat back half our exercise calories. If after a week, you're not hungry and you're losing weight, all is well.

Katrena: I got a real wake-up call at the weekend -- I logged everything and I went over a bit, but I had half-portions of most of the food we ate, and was careful about drink. So if I'd just "not logged" then I'd have eaten about 4000 calories a day -- enough to wipe out at least 10 days of careful logging.

Karen: You'd think that by senior year kids would work out that they shouldn't plagiarise!

Missyblueeyez: Welcome! I think one of the things that's great about these journeys is that you can try out lots of different exercises and find the ones that really work for you. And one of the things that's great about being larger is that some things that might not be so calorie-burning for thin peeps, like walking or social dancing, work really well for us. Why not have a goal to try a new exercise or sport every month? And tell us about it? I don't like treadmills either, but I love walking or running (very slowly) outside.

Hansea: I love corn too, but I'm always amazed by how much sugar there is in there.

September logging and counting -- 18/25. Yesterday's dinner was a bit evil -- a burger snatched on the way to the concert. And the restaurant had calorie counts which were... 725 for the burger, plus 400 for the chips and 200 for the onion rings. So I gave all but two of my chips away, and ate half the onion rings, and didn't eat the bun on the burger (I don't like them much anyway) so hope that got me back down to some reasonable number. And my Misfit didn't register my calories for some reason, though I did about 70% of target so should have got 2-300 calories for it. Never mind. Onward!

Kate Bush's concert was brilliant and bats. Well worth the money; a unique experience.

Hope your week's going brilliantly well. I just had a green smoothie! I'm going to have some more for sure.

@nettie - RLP sounds very painful, but I'm glad to hear all is good with the little one. Your MIL sounds very toxic. You need to enlist Brian's help in dealing with her. He needs to pull her aside and explain how he expects her to treat you. I can tell you that was the only thing that worked with my MIL..... DH calling her out on her behavior. Anything I said was immediately discounted.

@morgori - Darn, I missed Hobbit day. No second breakfast for me. Love those books so much. I'm a major book nerd.

@robin - Sorry your still sore and recovering. It's true that as we age (I like you am OLD), we just don't bounce back as quickly as we once did. Take care and take it slow.

@tanya - Yay for the car getting fixed next week!

@susan - Hope the convention is going well. I'm super proud of your renewed dedication! I know how stressful your job is, so kudos on taking the time you need to take of yourself.

@mnwalkingqueen - A trip to NO must include a stop at Cafe Du Monde for beignets and people watching.

@kah - 24 days until vacation....YAY!! I'm headed to Boston to see DD next weekend, but I really need some time off. Work is kicking my butt.

@skinnyjeanz - Great goal for NYC. I know you're gonna have a great time!

AFM - Fall is truly here and we've been having "English" weather. Cool, gray and drizzly. Yesterday it rained almost all day, but I finally took a walk after work in a light rain that I walked in again this morning. I had to give my dog an under carriage wash after both walks. He's a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. His coat is very soft and everything clings to it. He's a puppy made of Swiffer! Good thing my laundry sink is back. Everything is done in the laundry room except the tile. The tile guy finally came by and gave me a quote yesterday. Now I just need to wait for him to schedule the job. Hopefully, very soon.

Hope everyone has a great day!

@Katrena~I’m not a huge advocate for HGH or other quick weight loss programs, mostly because they can really mess with your metabolism and because chances are when you return to a normal diet the weight comes right back on and brings a few friends. :indifferent: Slow and steady wins the race, its all about changing your lifestyle and learning to enjoy things in moderation. I had to resort to frozen meals when I had hand surgery and tried to choose meals that were higher in protein—if you need to go that route, try choosing meals that are organic or free of preservatives. Kashi and Amy’s has some good meals, as does Lean Cuisine now. On another note 1,200 calories a day seems really low—did your trainer or doctor suggest you eat that little? That is the minimum our body needs just to function, seems with your activity you would need more. It could be a reason weight isn’t coming off like it should. Just some thoughts.

@Holly~I hope your algebra test went well last night (I  math)! Enjoy your trip to New Orleans, sounds like a nice getaway for you and your son.

@Karen~Ugh, sorry for the cheating student—glad he fessed up though. Its amazing how much we have to do before we take a few days off of work, isn’t it? Your trip to NYC is almost here!

@L2T~Have a fab time with your DD in Boston next weekend, I’ll be there on October 20th! We haven’t decided what we’re doing for an excursion there yet—I think we may just do our own thing and walk part of the Freedom Trail.

AFM~Session with trainer last night, went well—did some different things, which I always like. I’m off work today to attend an alumni event at my alma mater—good networking opportunity. Need another cup of coffee and then need to get ready & head out.

Thursday truth- I am sick and tired of butt kissers in the corporate world. As far as health wise my truth is my water consumption is way slacking from in the past months. I just don't feel like drinking water :grumble: My practice math test was a bomb when I went over the answers it wasn't that I didn't know how to do it I either didn't read the question completely or I entered the wrong information( example answer is B but I typed D but my work showed I got B answer). Night classes are hard because I am wiped out by the time they end. Real test is tonight so lots of protein to be full and stay focused is the key.

@skinny- I hate when people cheat in school to.

@L2L- I had that cafe on my list already- thanks for confirming I should go there.

On a personal note people who out right lie get under my skin....called a NO hotel today to see if they were still under construction...desk person said no it is over but I could hear jack hammering in the background. So, my cranky self said I guess the jack hammer I hear is in my own head than right? The person hung up the phone on me.

I haven't reported for a couple of days, although I am following along. The planned vacations and outings sound wonderful. I envy those who are meeting at T2T. That will be wonderful.
Nettie, I'm sorry you are having pain. Pregnancy is not for sissies, but so worth the effort!
I haven't reported because nothing changes. I am 23/26 days under calories (1200+ half of my exercise calories). I have walked 167.5 miles this month.
We are leaving tomorrow to spend the weekend with our daughter's family in Vancouver, WA. Our oldest granddaughter is leaving on October 15 for her mission. She is going to the temple on Saturday and speaking in church on Sunday, so we are taking this opportunity to tell her 'goodbye'. It will be a very busy weekend so I probably won't get any walking done for a couple of days.
Glad to see so many new people joining us. Visit here often. I rarely even go to my home page, but check on this thread several times a day.
    Onward and downward. Kaye

Hello to all. Welcome to the newbies.
Had another session with the trainer today. Good news on all fronts. Down another 1.5 pounds, down 16 inches since June 5.
Finished the workout 5 minutes ahead of schedule. Which can also be bad because next time he will add more exercises.
But altogether feeling pretty sassy today. :drinker:

I am catching up at work. Now less than one week behind. We have a very large commercial drapery(200 pair) job starting next month so I have to catch up before that starts. The new cleaning lady told me today she wants to be paid in cash. So sorry but I need to write that off, so I think I have lost her.

@Soosun - Congrats on the BP. Impressive numbers!

@Missyblueeyes - Congrats on getting at the "baby fat" now. I waited until my baby was almost 20 before I did anything serious about my weight.

    Love to all
