I'm kinda simple with my canned tuna:

    albacore tuna chunks in water
    drain water
    balsamic vinegar
    chinese five spice
    mix
    eat.

Open can. Drain. Eat with a fork straight out of the can.

Seriously, I'd like to hear the answers to this too. I don't have a clue what to do with it, other than eating it with crackers or on a sandwich.

I'm right with this poster...I never knew how tasty tuna can be WITHOUT mayo/miracle whip...

break it up with a fork; throw it on some bread (or deli flat), add some reduced fat/fat free mozzarella...place in oven until cheese melts...have you a tuna melt :)

I mix mine with diced carrots, cucumbers, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic salt, and fresh ground black pepper. Sometimes I put a hardboiled egg in it too. It's really good! Especially with a brown rice tortilla that's been toasted either in a toaster oven or regular oven. :)

tuna cakes are always good.. throw in anything you like..

    ie
    tuna
    mayo or greek yogurt (binder)
seasonings (garlic, onion, dill, etc etc)
even add a lil leftover potato or brown rice as filler if you like

hand form into patties, sear or bake til a lil browned/heated through (use a touch of pam to prevent sticking)

serve with mustard or a homemade tartar sauce (greek yogurt, chopped dill pickle and lemon juice)

    i personally love them *L*
  • Check out this link. It's for healthy sandwiches and I know not all of them include tuna but #9 is a tuna BURGER recipe which sounds fantastic!

I like to make a simple pasta great for a quick dinner.

    - Start your penne pasta.

    - Saute off your choice of fresh veggies. (I like halfed grape tomatos (tossed in after you add the pasta), green beans, olives, a little garlic, and spinach. But anything you like will work.)

    - Add a can of tuna and heat through.

    - Season with salt and pepper.

    - Deglaze with a cup of chicken stock and a dash of white wine. Add a little cream or milk if you like.

    - Drain pasta and add to vegetable mixture.

    Toss everything togher and serve.

It means to get the little bit of liquid to what you are cooking. It will help you get the little bits of yummyness off the bottom of the pan you are cooking in.

This past weekend, I made up a version of tuna salad. I used one can of tuna, 1/2 cup of non-fat plain yogurt and a little mustard. mixed it up - have been using it in 1/4's. Toast a piece of bread, put the tuna on top, add some shredded colby cheese and a little lettuce on top -- Open Face Tuna Sandwich. Total Calories were 177. I had to figure each item by itself, but if you use lower cal bread/cheese, it could even be less than that.

    I usually make tuna pasta out of my canned tuna. Simple and delicious;

Take 1 clove of garlic and say quarter of an onion( I prefer red onions) and saute in a pan over a med-high heat, throw in about a handful of veges- fresh or frozen and cook a little longer over a medium heat. Then add 2/3 of a cup of low-cal/low sodium tomato based pasta sauce until it's nice and hot then flake some tuna chunks into it, stir them in and simmer for 2-3 minutes.

I usually serve mine over a plate of whole wheat pasta, with a small amount of low cal cheese.

It's a really quick and easy way to enjoy tuna.

Also, try putting tuna into a toasted whole wheat pita pocked with salad and a little bit of sweet chili sauce, that's another favourite of mine too :)

I just had a really nice salad for lunch which had tuna in it. Feel free to have a look :). I'm interested in this topic too! Can't think of anything good to do with it except salad or sandwich :(

Also, I'm pretty sure my breath smells like cat food now. *runs off to find a mint*
  • Just want to warn you to please not eat more than one can of tuna per week. Tuna contains mercury and it's deadly.

I love tuna and it was a shock to learn about it -- just needed you to know...
