My only advice (other than pace yourself) is to consider investing in a seat pad (I have a cheapie foam one I bought at a hardware store) by the last 5K or so your butt can get a little uncomfortable. One of these days I want to try a full marathon......

We did a half marathon as a three person team for a Crossfit team workout. It was not fun at all. The goal was to have one team beat the times that the top level Crossfitters put up in the Crossfit Games a few years back. I think maybe one team managed it at around 1 hour and 15 minutes. My team took just under an hour and a half.

I'm generally a very good rower, but the one thing I learned that I had not realized is that all your power in rowing (and in most other things) comes from your core. I was giving what I thought was the same effort towards the end but just could not generate any force. At that point I realized it was because my abs were completely gassed.

If you are rowing a lot then I think a setapad is a very wise invstment. Concept 2 seat is very uncomfortable for going over 30 mins repeatedly imo. What they said about pacing yourself as well. 5 or 10 seconds pace is massive for me.

For me, I use the pads sold by C2 - I just stack 2 of them together. Still not a totally cushy feeling, but I can certainly manage 60-70 minutes without it hurting me. All personal experience though.

Almost made the 100K for the Holiday challenge. Two more rows should get there.

On the seat debate I prefer the natural padding of the overweight. I've tried a gel seat, but found that to be unconfortable as well. I'm ok up to 1/2 marathon, when I did a full marathon I used the gel seat and a towel, but tbh by the end nothing made much difference to the general numbness.

Just bookmark it. It doesnt matter about time and distance, so dont be put off. Its just about trying to get ten rows in. 500m 10x will do.

Okay... as in a web browser bookmark? Is is there a way to do it in the forum? For now I'll browser bookmark it.

I have been really enjoying the rowing machine since I discovered it about a month ago. I can row 1000 meters in 5 min with the resistance maximized.

Yesterday for the first time I used my heart rate monitor to calculate an accurate burn... this could be my new favourite thing!

I'll aim for a full 60 min today and see how far I get. Then I will work to improve on that.

So... I rowed for 60 minutes with resistance on 10 and came in at 11,500 ish.

My comfortable pace seems to be 2:35... and a hard but sustainable effort is 2:20-2:25. If I want to crash and burn really fast 1:59 will do it!

I dropped my heart rate watch on the change room floor and now it is dead. RIP Timex Global Trainer. I estimate my average HR was in the 150-160 range for the most part.

I have to admit I slacked off a lot during the last 10 minutes. So, I think I can aim for 1250 next time.

Yeah, rowing is right up there with running for me :D
