Unexpected results of weight loss

I have only lost 35 of over 200 pounds needed. Not much has changed yet, in ME. But my daughters (who I try to be gentle with about weight issues, because I don't want to make things worse) are looking GOOD. They come to the pool with me to swim sometimes, and since I have been eating healthier, the whole family has been eating healthier.
I was looking at pics from our beach vacation of 2013. My youngest was getting visibly chubby. Today she wears the same swimsuit, but looks so much healthier! This summer she will need a new suit, as this one is getting too loose.19 -
I discovered that I could wear high heels that used to ache and I would blame the design of the shoe but when I had lost my weight I realized I was so much lighter on my feet that it was no longer painful. That was a huge "oh yeah" moment.
Yesterday I was looking at the most lovely pair of heels I have ever seen and thought, maybe, just maybe when I lose all this weight I can buy these and actually wear them longer than just around my house to see if I should really leave my house without a back up pair of flats. Thank you for this! You have made my day

Kinda creepy to see veins in my arms and hands, and having a hard time shaving under my arms...I keep missing spaces, I guess I have armpits now...lol !!!2

*Being able to zip high boots up right to the top because my calves fit in them!!!
*I never recognize myself in reflections of store windows or mirrors and so I'm always caught off guard like there was someone standing close to me and I didn't realize. I always look around startled before realizing THAT'S ME!!!!!
This is too cute!!! Congratulations!!!!1 -

Once you go from morbidly obese to a normal weight range you find your clothes not fitting after only a few days of eating more calories than you need to maintain. Also, PMS makes the jeans too snug, as does eating a crapton of fiber. It's really annoying but not something I'd trade to be so fat again that I could gain 20 pounds and still have room in my elastic band tablecloth skirts for 50 more!6

Ditto. I once saw this described as having "a 26-inch waist and 26-mile-a-day thighs."7 -
I noticed I spend more time caring for and decorating my body - caring for it in the gym and the kitchen inspires me to spend extra time rubbing on lotions, grooming, wearing makeup, adorning with jewelry - I'm not yet near my goal weight but happily I love my body again and want to treat it well all the time
This! I also never used to look at myself in mirrors or allow anyone to take my picture and now I spend a few moments in front of the mirror to give myself a once over and see if I can notice more changes.0 -
my skin is incredibly clear. no body acne between rolls!
i also think i smell better. just in general, is that weird?3 -

Less skin rolls, less places for bacteria to lurk and stink you up!
I find myself staring at my forearms seeing the definition in them, especially after a few km's on the rowing machine at the gym. Before they were just smooth shanks.1 -
When you put your jeans in the dryer and dry the heck out of them to make them shrink so they fit better.....instead of hanging them out to dry so they won't shrink.10

No more acid stomach!
I used to pound down antacids all the time because I needed to. I would buy them 3 or 4 bottles at a time. The day I began eating smarter and healthier, my heartburn went away the *next* day. It's been nearly a month. I've lost 9 pounds and my bottle of antacids is gathering dust. To me, this was as big a victory as the weight loss.30 -

That moment When I realized: Treadmill/gym...bank account/mastercard. And the moment when I realized my "all out jog" is really less my resting jog and that I am can do an all out run that makes my brain and my muscles happy...PRICELESS!0

I have lost 58lb from 260lb.
I still haven't got used to the fact that this smaller person is me. I do double takes when I'm out shopping and catch my reflection in a window or full length mirror because I can't understand that it's me!
I spend more money on new work out clothes than I do on work clothes
My ex-boyfriend and very good mate visited me a couple of months ago, hugged me and picked me up which he hasn't been able to do since we very first went out.
Being one of the fittest people in the room rather than one of the fattest. I do some of the highest intensity versions of Zumba in my class!
I now love the feeling of crossing my legs4 -
Your bladder shrinks & you have to go to the bathroom more frequently.3

Mine would be my boney knees and hips. Also unexpectedly my excess skin. I recently went from 148 to 137 and just in those ten pounds the amount of extra skin is so disappointing. I know I would appear skinnier at this weight without it. But I feel great and no one sees it under my shirts (tummy is the worst part) But I am afraid to wear shorts so I need to get my but in gear and really work out my legs

Went shopping today and put a pair of size 12 jeans back on the rack, not because they didn't fit, but because they didn't fit perfectly. In the past, I'd buy anything that would zip.12

I don't get sick (colds, etc) as often.. and when I do get sick, it's not as severe.1

I've still got 40 pounds to go, but I've noticed changes with my jeans. Before, I had to wear them below my belly because they fit my legs and hips but I could't do them up over my stomach. Sometime in the last couple months, I've finally been able to get them zipped and buttoned where they're supposed to be. To top it all off, in the last few weeks, I keep having to hoist them up because now they're almost too big to fit over my stomach. Time to dig out my old belts, lol. I never thought I'd get to the point where my pants were fitting properly, let alone be a little on the roomy side, so this has got me uber excited.
This thread is amazing and I can't wait to read more from everyone else =D Each post gets me excited for what's to come on the rest of my quest. Thanks for sharing everyone!!1 -
Even at the age of 52, I'm learning to cook.
After really reading the labels of most packaged foods (yikes, by the way) I decided I can do better by preparing my own foods.4 -
This is a great thread!
No more peeing when I sneeze, laugh, cry, or excersice
No more shopping in the fat people section in the store (aka the full figure section)
No more hives
I have a collarbone!6 -
I can walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I'm gonna die. I had to get smaller shoes. Before I had to get an extra wide shoe. Now I can wear normal shoes. I can fit in the bathtub. My glasses no longer leave indentions in the side of my face. I finally had the courage to cut my hair. Before I always felt like my face & neck were too fat. I have lots more energy. Before I could barely do 5 minutes on the elliptical, now I can do 60 minutes and don't feel dead & out of breath. I'm down 2 sizes! My clothes fit better. I also know what my body is capable of & I look forward to the rest of my journey. I actually enjoy working out.3

I love the comments about the knees! So true!
I get service in stores and restaurants whereas before I might as well have been invisible.4 -

THIS! I used to go to the thrift store and buy anything they had that would fit, because the choices were so slim and far between I couldnt be picky. Now I have SOOO many clothes that I am very picky when I get something new, and I have to force myself to replace something in my closet just so it will fit in there. Its very liberating to get rid of clothes I just dont like, not because they are too small.
Also when shopping at the thrift store, I will hold up a pair of pants and look them over to see if I like them before I check the size. I wear a 4/6 - and sometimes I will go look at the size and it will be a 0/2 and I will put it back, but just shake my head because I even considered it for a moment - i used to look at those as kids clothes! ANd I used to look at clothes in my previous size (up to 22) and think "no way will that fit".
That being said, I still always start out in the PLUS section... I just cant help it. Lifetime of habit!8 -
I just remembered another one -- going to the doctor's office and when they ask "what medications are you on" and I say "none," I always get a look of surprise, and then they say: "None?"
It makes me feel super healthy.10 -

I JUST had this happen! It's like they are so surprised to have someone in their office that isn't on a regular medication of some kind. Crazy isn't it?
