Almond Milk vs. Skim Milk
Replies

I don't drink milk unless it's from a local dairy...mass produced milk just tastes terrible (or rather, has little taste) to me. The local dairy's milk is very creamy and flavorful, even the part-skim.
But I still prefer almond milk for the calories and taste.0 -

The Kroger stores in my area have started carrying it. Silk makes it. I haven't bothered trying it, though, since cashew products have too much of the flavor concentrated for my taste. It does have some bizarre additives, though. I kid you not, it has almond butter in it. My guess is to make it creamier, but I still did a double-take when I saw it.0 -
If I could tolerate it, 3.25% milk is where I'd go (and I have in the past, but can no longer ). Skim milk is like white water. No taste, no texture... Soy milk tastes awful. I love almond and coconut milk. Cashew milk is also pretty nice and creamy. I've gotten to the point where I can just drink it unsweetened on its own and enjoy it. And I eat enough meat + protein shakes and whatnot to make up for the difference.
I do miss chocolate milk. And can only have so much yogurt or cottage cheese (and never both in the same day). Heck, skyr is awesome and I can't even have it because it's basically really thick skim milk
I'm sure my coworkers and family are much happier (as well as I am) that I stick to almond milk most of the time despite it all.
Can you handle full/heavy cream? 3 parts chocolate almond milk to 1 part cream, makes for a divine chocolate milk. Definitely worth a try!0 -
fat is an essential nutrient we all need. drink 2%0

And then once they are done drinking milk, they go strictly vegan/vegetarian to finish out that 1,000 lbs. That's why I avoid vegetarian diets. I would hate to turn into a 1,000 lb heifer.

agreed
"The hype for store-bought almond milk from people who are otherwise all about "natural and unprocessed" is always the weirdest."
agreed, that is why I make my own. Taste better, less junk it it, and not processed.
How do you get the "milk" out of almonds without processing it?
Processed food in these contexts, to most educated people, = commercially manufactured, processed and packaged. Not put in a blender.
so it's the packaging that makes it so unhealthy?
It's all the machines it goes through, additives that are added, the packaging (BPA is still legal in US), and its in every can US produces) and hands that touch it.
lol...you really think that the only processing that occurs to make almond milk is throwing some almonds in a blender? Without packaging, untouched by human hands?0 -
I am not a vegetarian nor vegan. I EAT MEAT. Still the thought of humans being the only animal that drinks milk from another animal sounds yuckky. Yes, I still eat cheese, on occasion, it just sounds yuccky. Would you suck the milk out of a cows "Teat"?
Totally untrue.
Also, huh? re sucking the milk out of a cows teat...how on earth is that even relevant?0 -
I use 8oz of almond milk with my protein shakes every day... If milk is a major source of protein for your diet you've got bigger issues. Also, I'm pretty sure that every that is "fat free" has lots of added chemicals in order for it to be so (or so my 2 nutritionists say). There are good fats and not-so-good fats, just research them.0

I drink skim milk because I drink A LOT of it in my cups of tea and smoothies/protein shakes. Full fat which is better just gives me too many calories.
I recently bought almond/coconut milk, I can handle it in my smoothies but just can't get used to it my tea blaaaaahhhhh0 -

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was confused on that.0 -

Errr....what bigger issues?
Also, I would ask exactly what chemicals are added to make it fat free...of your 2 nutritionists.
What are good fats and not so good fats (other than artificial trans fats)?.0 -

For me, Almond milk's taste and texture is not appealing. I use cow's milk - it varies as to whether its skim or 2% or whole, depending on what I am having it with and/or my macros.1

Y so many nutritionists?0 -
I am not a huge fan of almond milk but I want to try it in my protein shakes for something different other than water.0

One for the good fats, and one for the bad.
I often have a couple servings of dairy a day and it sometimes helps me meet my protein goal, so I'm curious what my bigger issues are.0 -

Have you considered coffee? I like a good protein coffee after a morning workout, personally (with about half a cup of moocow milk)0 -

I can't even.
Do you eat yogurt?
Chalk full of bacteria?
Touch railings anywhere out side your home? Chalk full of all sorts of bodily fluids-
You're phone- that you put up close and personal to your face? dirtier than a toilet seat!
Milk is fine- it's almost a complete food coupled with cereal. Delicious.lvillani81 wrote: »I honestly don't understand how milk doesn't gross human beings out. Um, no. I don't eat yogurt, or cheese or anything else from milk. Yeah I put my dirty phone on my face, but I don't ingest my phone. I dare you to just lick you phone. You won't do, and neither would I. Milk is not fine.
I lick my phone all the time- mostly because I cook with it near by- and stuff splashes all the time on it-... LICKS.
still not dead- unfortunately I can't take a picture to prove it- because- well it's my phone.
wait- I have a plan- I think. hold on. harder than I thought- but I got it.
and yes- milk is totally fine.

goat too.
well maybe not like lips on titty- only because I don't like the texture- but I've taking a milk shot straight out of an udder yes. delicious. you are way to uptight.0 -

Quite. That's why I even cook my veg in bacon fat. Straight veggies are for cows.
also- love you so much for this. because me too.
also my popcorn.0 -
skim milk tastes like barely flavored water.
If I'm drinking cow milk- I'm drinking 2% or higher.
-
Being said- I use/drink unsweetened vanilla almond milk... it has fewer calories and actually tastes like something. Also. Being said- I don't drink it straight- I drink it w/ protein or add it to shakes- or make hot chocolate.
mmmhmmm hot chocolate. That sounds good right now.
^this^ plus I like the kind that has added calcium.0 -
I drink almond milk, my boyfriend drinks 2% milk. I drink his sometimes when I run out of mine, but it lacks the body I like. I buy the generic UNSWEETENED plain almond milk usually. Sometimes I "splurge" on the full calorie (60 per serving) Silk brand almond milk. Silk adds gums into theirs, which makes it feel super rich in your mouth. I've read you can make almond milk at home with a good blender, just almonds and filtered water, blend the bejesus out of it. Have not tried it, not really worth the effort/money. Almonds are pricey, almond milk isn't. I *have* tried putting plain water on my cereal, but it has that mineral/metallic taste of water then. The almond milk really works like milk in cereal. I use non-dairy powdered coffee creamer in my coffee. It's not that high in anything harmful.0
