Oh man, major facepalm! I will never understand why people think they have to do cleanses, eat low calorie, eat "clean" etc..

Took the words right out of my mouth. Word for word.

O.P. was bothered by it, so I am informing her. There are enough people dissuading VLCD's. I also already said that I thought this was a bad idea and told her it's better to eat friends/vegetables whole. Not going to repeat myself.

Personally I prefer my friends blended into a smoothie. You get the fiber that way.

42 pounds and I still drink coke, eat ice cream and have McDonald's every now and then.

I'm not leaving it behind for a bucket of green goo.

My friends have no fiber whatsoever, moral or otherwise.

I wouldn't recommend blending your friends up into a smoothie.

Fruit on the other hand... with a little bit of tequila....

ok, perhaps this isn't the best site to ask for help. I really need someone on my team, someone supporting me, rather than judgement and criticism. This is really discouraging and I'm on the verge of tears.

People *are* trying to help you. A juice cleanse will make you miserable at best and damage your health at worst. Just stay away from them.

Eat at a calorie deficit and move more. That's *all* you have to do. Trust me. I've lost 90 pounds doing just that very thing. I haven't touched one cleanse, other than my soap in the shower, and I eat everything I love. Just in moderation! Try it, it works and you'll be MUCH happier in the long run!

I understand everyone sending you guidance on healthy eating...but honestly I'm kind of with you on the juicing...but only as a way of kicking the toxins and helping you stop the foods that create addiction (processed food) that is really not on the shelves for us to buy because of its nutritional content, but because the food industry is only interested in making money.
I did juice but have now moved to having a couple of nutribullet blasts a day and honestly I feel great!
I'm getting all the goodness my body needs including the fiber, I eat these for breakfast and lunch and have a healthy dinner with snacks etc inbetween.
I totally get that you want to stop your food addiction completely! Once you have got the toxins out your system then you can more easily cope with eating and logging your food. Best of luck lovely x

What toxins specifically? Also, do you have any case studies showing that juice fasts are good for "eliminating toxins"?
Please do not spread harmful broscience without case studies or solidified proof.

I get this response however why don't you provide evidence for her as to why this is false?

"Your body works ___ here is a link to a study that proves you don't need to detox etc etc etc"

Your not really helping by calling someone out who is obviously uninformed.

This is hilarious. The proof is in a 8th grade science book.

Also, you can't prove a negative.

Problem here is there are no "toxins" to kick out. While there may be more nutrition, that can be attained by eating food and changing food choices.

No, I'm listening to everyone. Most of the advice is great, some not so much. But that's not why I created this message board - the intent was for others like me who would like to try this for a short period of time to support and encourage each other. That's it. I wasn't looking for criticism or judgement. I've done plenty of research, and wouldn't categorize myself as uninformed.
Unfortunately then you're not seeing all the research. You're seeing articles of info biased toward juicing. Look at peer reviewed clinical studies from medical/scientific journals. You'll see a different research.
Doesn't sound like you'll change your mind though. Can't help those that don't actually want it.

OP, if you listen to anyone in this thread, listen to him.
He's studied nutrition and has experience in this field.

Why put each other down, or ridicule someone's grammar? Why not encourage, and say "way to go!" Why not wish someone the best, even if you don't agree with their choice? At least we're trying. We are all here just trying to lose weight, or to get fit or healthy, or all of the above. And we're all doing it one day at a time, in our each unique way.

No, some of us, quite a lot actually, are here doing what it takes to lose weight, and get results accordingly. And in the same way - by eating less calories than we burn, but not so few that we get ill or starve ourselves. We don't just try, we do. We eat what we like in moderation. Record every bit consistently and patiently. Those who can, get moving, too.

You know what, crying will rid you of toxins, tears do that, better than any juice will! Maybe this was for the best after all!

Look, listen, absorb the good advice given to you in this thread. A juice reboot is utterly nonsense and can be dangerous.

Not to mention I also work in a Wellness Center with a gym and not just a chain gym. My Wellness Center is partnered with Stanford Medical and is an ACCREDITED cancer surviorship program by the American College of Surgeons Commission. We're one of the few of the 6,000 plus hospitals out there (only 20% have this accreditation). And NONE of our PT's, dieticians, rehab specialists, etc. would recommend a juice fast for weight loss UNLESS it was directly monitored and administered as a program by one of our doctors. Normally that would be someone whose morbidly obese.

This site is full of a lot of people who have been successful and continue to be in their fitness and health goals. So when so many people on here tell you the same thing, you should listen. It's not what you want to hear, but if you listen, you will succeed. If you just want to be told what you want to hear and insist on going on some fad diet because you think your body actually does things like 'reboot', then you are going to struggle. Nobody here is being cruel, we all want you to succeed and you've been told the fool proof, 100% guaranteed success way to go about this.

    starting a juice reboot

Buy toilet paper... a lot of it.

This isn't necessary except to lose massive amounts of water weight through diarrhea.

I was thinking about that in the car earlier....I had horrible digestive side effects from the medicines I was on after I got my wisdom teeth taken out. I can only imagine that a liquid diet for multiple weeks would have the same results.

Because it's the responsibility of the person making the claim ("juice fasts help you detox", "food addiction exists", "a juice fast can help break a food addiction") to provide proof to back up their claim.
