Kicked out of gym for doing renegage rows????

A friend of mine told me that he was kicked out of his gym (okay, his former gym) because he was doing renegade rows. Apparently, this exercise was considered offensive and unacceptable to the clientele.

For pity's sake, who does this sort of thing?

For the sake of the uninitiated, this is what renegade rows look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHN0SGa-68Q

Thankfully, this friend of mine is no dummy. He left that place for something better. He's not a hardcore athlete by any means -- in fact, he's a bit out of shape -- but he does work hard and wants to make progress.

Also, I like the look of that move, I'm going to give that a go, I'm bored with planks and I need to buy heavier dumbells for my bent over rows...

I do not see how that could be offensive. good for him for not letting it get him down.

If you have lighter DB's and still want to work your core more, do the Renegade rows on a stability ball if you have one. Having to stabilize yourself on the ball will engage the core and you won't be able to go too heavy in weight.

That would have pissed me off 'cause I do those all the time (except I do a push up, then pull the dumb bell up)...

My cat pops every damn ball I try to get. I really do need to keep Bitey Kitteh away from my workout stuff.

I think the 10-15-25 dumbbells I have will keep me on the Renegades for a bit. The 25s are only just now getting light-ish for my bent over rows. Just from looking, I suspect the Renegades are quite a bit more challenging.

I don't understand this thread. What's wrong with this exercise?

IF the gym in question is a planet fitness then it probably scared the flock because it is "too hardcore" .....

I'm guessing that OP is English; therefore PF is not the offending party this time.

I don't understand how that can get you kicked out of a gym?

That's stupid even Jillian Michaels 30 day shred one of the levels has a version of this as an exercise. (lighter weights and on the knees)

Absolutely nothing... except that it apparently intimidates some people. That was enough to get him kicked out.

And yes, it was at Planet Fitness. That should tell you something.

They even sounded that obnoxious lunk alarm on him, for pity's sake.

Never been to a Planet Fitness. What do people do there? Only Treadmill and elliptical?!

You have to understand... Working hard is enough to make some people feel bad about themselves. The solution is therefore to kick people out when they do push themselves hard.

The thing is, this isn't even an onerously difficult exercise, though it can be challenging.

Sounds like their claims of being a "judgement free zone" should be considered an enormous lie. Glad there's none in the town I live in, I'd be avoiding it like the plague.

He didn't get kicked out because of this exercise. He got kicked out for not taking a slice of pizza.
