Have you figured out what your maintenance is and eaten over it?0
-
Do you eat that in addition to regular food?? I'm assuming you do? Anyways how much do you weigh, what do you want to weigh, and what is your current total caloric intake, and other macros?0

What one thing could you try this week that you haven't done yet?0

Not sure what you mean by maintain AND gain, do you mean gain and THEN maintain? That would make more sense. Again, just like I said earlier to the OP, how much do you want to weigh? It will take awhile for those who have difficulty gaining weight. What is your current total caloric intake? What is the breadown of your carbs, fat, and protein? These are the things all of us need to know before helping . haha.

Are you over exercising? If you eating insufficient calories and adding an additional deficit through strenuous exercise, weight will never go on. When an underweight person 'eats loads' it may not be calorie dense, but still apprears and feels like a lot. This is where you need to be brutally honest with yourself both in terms of food intake and calories spent.0

Spend a few weeks at my house, you'll need a forklift to get out the door....0

eat more food.
eat higher calorie- less filling food.
- candy bars- sodas- snacks- fries- burgers- pizza bagles- beer- ice cream
I know a guy who was blending slices of cheesecake into his smoothies because he was having such a hard time upping the calories.
odds are you aren't eating as much as you think you are- move away from the chicken and quinona and broccoli- eat that stuff- but round it out with OTHER things that are higher calorie- and not as filling.
my favorite is a big tall glass of 2% or full fat milk + 3-4 servings of ice cream with oreos crumbled on top- easily 900 calories and very easy to eat in less than 20 min and not insanely filling.
Come to the dark side.
And never leave home with out a big old bag of nuts and crackers or peanut butter.0 -
ice cream, bagels, cookies, bread, pasta, steak = problem solved0
-
OP - do you have a food scale and weigh all your solids? Like Jo said, you may think you are eating a lot but are actually not …
I know when I was bulking I would think "wow, this is a lot of food' and then log it all in and realize that I still need 400 calories to get all my calories in ...0 -
I went through a depression and have anxiety so that doesn't help but I went to a very unhealthy weight of 89 lbs and then came back up to 102. My goal is to gain 20-30 lbs to be normal for once ! I've been too skinny whole life but I do not have any eating disorders and love food. The only problem I think I have is I rarely eat breakfast... I'm just not hungry when I wake up!!!0

You should have a medical test to see if your thyroid is hyperactive. Is not normal for you to eat as much as you say and not gain weight.0

Would you be able to *drink* breakfast? Like some sort of shake/smoothie? You can get loads of delicious calories into those....

Find maintenance calories
Eat more than that
Lift heavy things
Sleep
It's really that simple.
I used to think I had a "fast metabolism" too until I tracked what I was eating on a normal day.
Consistency is also key.0 -

open your diary so people can get an idea of what you currently eat.
not eating breakfast isnt your problem, you're just not consuming enough calories.0 -
This app/site has helped me a lot. Sometimes when it's the end of the day and I'm writing down the foods I ate, I barely reach 1000 calories and I get confused because I'm not hungry and I felt fine through out the whole day. I immediately get a glass of milk and shove some food down my throat. Gaining weight is hard, and I know what you mean with depression and anxiety getting in the way (it makes me lose weight). I am finally at 98lbs and my goal is 103..more with muscle. 103 with just fat seems to be a "feel good" weight for me.
I suggest making this a goal to track every thing you eat so you truly know what you are eating. I would also go see a doctor about your depression/anxiety if you haven't done so already and see if they will give you a blood test just to check. (I just got one yesterday).
Good luck0 -
three 1000 calorie meals/shakes a day should do the trick. (*) (*) (*)0

Sounds like you may not be hungry a lot. Depression and anxiety can certainly reduce appitite and this is could be your issue. Also, if you are on medications they may also have affects on your appitite.
The only thing you can really do is eat more and eat foods that might not be considered the most healthy just to get your calories up, but don't neglect your nutrition so make sure you get plenty of fruits, vegetibles, whole grains, lean meat etc so that your covering all the bases. If you find you are still having problems then you need to consult with your doctor. He might be able to adjust your medication, if you are on any, or add something to stimulate your appitite and help you gain.
Good luck.0 -

Figure out how many calories you need to gain weight, then eat those calories every day.0 -
Don't eat all that unhealthy stuff that people are saying.
Eat healthy no matter what.
Instead eat more often, and eat bigger meals than you're used to.
So, slowly increase your meals one day at a time. At the same time, eat as many times a day, as you can. If you: let's say, eat 3 meals a day (a smoothie for breakfast) just add 2-3 additional meals to the day in form of a snack. It could be some fruit (2 bananas, a slice of pineapple and an orange) or a salad.
You'll need to eat something at least every 3 hours if you are awake 15-18 hours a day (2.5 hours is better of course, but it's probably too hard for you in the beginning)
After a couple of months you'll notice that you can now eat more than you are use to, without feeling it's too hard
Meaning: your body is now more use to get more calories without you forcing it.
Remember, always eat healthy. You don't wanna mess around with your cholesterol or other risk factors, just because you wanna gain/loose weight.
I know it's easier to get 3000 calories by eating cheesecakes, soda & pizza but that's not the right or healthy way to get those calories. Instead eat healthy, like vegetables and other natural things. Maybe avoid processed food and candy/potato chips. If you can get 3000 calories a day by eating healthy, you'll definitely get a 100% satisfaction of your result, than you would by eating cheesecakes.
Just my 2 cents.

Ditto what Wheelhouse15 and Bellabonbons said. 14 years ago, i had a similar situation as you have now and it was a combination of being depressed (and the side effect of meds and just not being hungry) AND hyperthyroidism (in my case it was Graves' disease). I would talk to your doctor and get some things ruled out and perhaps get your meds switched around. Perhaps they can also give you more hands-on nutritional support in the medical community. Eating properly can impact your mental health, and likewise. I hope you feel better soon and start to gain some weight. Add me if you would like. Take care0

your two cents is rejected and refunded...
OP already has a hard time gaining weight and you are recommending adding a salad? what is that like 100 calories, maybe?
how do you define healthy? If OP is hitting her calorie/micro/macro targets for the day, then she can easily add in some ice cream, cookies, bagels, etc to try and help her get to a calorie number where she is gaining..
adding in a few meals of bananas, oranges, and salad is going to do nothing for her weight gain goal...0 -
Make a shake consisting of protein powder, ice cream, peanut butter and heavy cream or whole milk. Maybe add some chocolate syrup. Yum.0

I used to think I ate a lot. But calorie wise I was barely making 1200 calories. Eat as much asylu can. Have smoothies and add in peanut butter, olive oil, double cream, milk. It's a 'hidden' dense calorie which totally helps. Even if it takes you an hour to drink. You need to add more calories like everyone else says. Cheat and add a slice of cake or something if you're under your calorie intake. Eat proper meals and then add the smoothies etc don't use it as a meal replacement. This apps helped me BIG time. Hope this helps you babe x0

Shame the OP never came back0

You're two non-cents aren't worth the metal they might have been printed upon.
If you have never bulked- don't be giving advice.
Eating 3000+ calories of chicken broccoli and quiona is ridiculous.
It's the exact opposite of someone trying to lose weight who is maximizing their calorie intake with filling- high density- but low calorie foods (so they can eat more).... verses bulking- where sometimes you want low density- high calorie foods so you can eat what you need without being overly stuffed.

I am having trouble gaining weight too I haven't eaten right not exercising and not feeling good about myself. I started the gym at 88 pounds 6 years ago I been lifting more than before eating more protein bars and eating more but no gaining but I realized that you have to push yourself to the limit to do it I have a trainer that helps me I weighed 88 pounds now I set my short goal to 110 pounds now I I hit my goal of 110 pounds today on February 20th 2015 and starting a new goal of 120 pounds. I feels good to weigh 110 pounds now. If you want to succeed in life and weight gain push yourself to the limit and you will succeed.0
