I got a bento box for Christmas (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016S7MJM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2QYTRXWE0G41H&coliid=IP1NLRPKB23KK), but then I started working from home. I'm only out of the house at lunch time once, maybe twice a week! I haven't had a chance to use it yet.0

I eat bento boxes at home! Although it was mostly when I'd already packed them for the week and then stayed home sick for several days0 -

So far yes, he is at least bring them and has had hardly any food left in them. So that is good.
Ok, I am totally at a loss. My son knocked out my two smaller bento boxes, and my favorite one I got for me is now missing its small box. Seriously, where could they thing have gone? o.o Unless it never got put up, but not even used yet, just beyond understandable. Sorry just had to complain somewhere. >.<
@Kontxesi I think I am about to start making everyone's lunches at night. The thing is, we all stay home.

Some of your bentos look soo amazing, so inspiring!!!0

I was having a look around the Bento&Co website at lunch today. I thought "gee, wouldn't it be nice to have one of the more traditional wooden boxes?" I think I might have to wait for my birthday for some of them.
Have a guess at how much you think this box costs:
Then see how much it costs. I dropped my chopsticks.
I'm so glad I have Daiso...0 -

Holy crapola!! Wow!! I think I could take a woodshop class and make one myself for that!
You could get a nice stainless tiffin or a nice lacquered wood one for around $60-70.

I think it's more the wood that it's made from. To use Japanese chestnut wood is like us deciding to by a coffee cup made out of Ebony.0

Ok was not expecting it to cost that much. Wow, just wow. And yeah, types of wood would add value to items, still just not ever going to be buying it.
Hubby's bento tomorrow. The top is oreo cookies, kettle bbq chips and the bottom is taco chicken chili, potato shapes, and some cheese.
I made myself a snack bento for tonight too I wanted to show off, for fun. Potato shapes, some baked beans, and salsa chicken.
The potatoes are from tonight's dinner. I made shapes out of them and than steamed them for the little ones and of course, they still did not like them Yeah, my youngest do not like mashed potatoes, or potatoes in general, only the french fried kind. I am going to start linking to some of my recipes in case anyone wants info on them as well. As for the chili/soup, I make it and than freeze it in individual servings.

How do you guys keep your fruit (apples etc) good through the day until youre going to eat them? My apples always go brown
I've tried the lemon trick but I find it changes the apples taste
I can't eat browned fruit either. I cut my apples with an apple slicer and then put it back together with a rubber band around it.0 -

You all are very talented. I have a kids bento box. Works for me...lol
I think the Bentgo boxes are a great idea. What ever works for you is what you should be using in IMO. Technically my bento boxes are kids ones too, but much to my mothers dismay, my husbands tolerance and nephews delight, I'm just a big kid anyway ^_^
ETA: you know on second thought, after looking around at the kids school lunchboxes in the back-to-school sales over the last month, my bento boxes are the size of these kids SNACK boxes. I was hoping to find something new and funky, and I did, but just 3 or 4 times the size of what I needed.0 -
I got new Bento boxes! Yay! And they're not from Daiso! Yay! An Asian grocer that specialised in Korean and Japanese produce had some that are about 550ml in volume. I bought two in celebration of hitting 15kg lost today.
Today's Bento is prawn & pork dumplings with rice, furikake, umeboshi, blanched vegetables, and some pickled takana leaf (which I think is mustard leaves and is somewhere underneath the edamame), totalling 460cal. With the yoghurt (full fat natural yoghurt with blackberries, blueberries and mixed spice), fruit (strawberries and figs) and a babybel, it totals 730cal. My diary is always open for people who want to see a breakdown of my Bento's.
@HanamiDango I like the idea of the taco chicken chilli. I'd just have to avoid the cheese.... I'd end up devouring half a block whilst grating what I needed0 -

That bento looks both pretty & delicious!

Okay, finally had time to pack a lunch! Tomorrow's bento, soba noodles, edamame & smoked sesame seeds, pork & veggie dumplings, carrot chips and two meltykiss green tea chocolates. Same snack bento as usual but I ran out of kiwi, so I subbed in snap peas. I can't wait until some good fruit comes back in season!Khalstead0517 wrote: »Oh no,I have reached the end of this thread?Must buy. bento. boxes!!!!!

I had (yeah, HAD) to go to The Container Store today to get a tub or something for the back of my SUV to contain all my nursey stuff as my folders and supplies were taking over. And while there I found lunch container heaven. There are at least two I really want and another one for my daughter as I am thinking about doing a gluten free trial for her to see if that improves some of her tummy issues.
So many choices! Eeep!0 -
@kramrn77 If I was there I'd be too tempted to buy one of everything. I'm pretty sure my budget (and husband) won't allow for that though. I've heard the eco lunchboxes are really good, just annoying that they're not microwave safe.
The green one in the bottom right shelf - if that is a black and blum box (it looks like one), they're meant to be fantastic and long lasting, even with repeated microwave use. I've never bought one because every store that stocks it overseas charges exorbitant shipping.0 -
Recently i've modified all of my settings on MFP to be sedentary with no workouts, and have let my Fitbit input my exercise cals, and even with eating some of them back, I'm still under my daily intake by almost 1000 some days (like today, even with icecream!), so every gym day I have I'm going to up the size of my Bento's and if I keep losing I'll either increase my snacks or keep the Bento's larger. If I start to maintain, I'll drop back down a bit. I apologise in advance for those of you who are under 1500cals daily for what my next few Bento's are probably going to look like.
I got to make a 6 minute Bento today. I love leftovers and freezer stash! Friday's Bento is:
Main tier (770cal):
- 340cal: Beef meatballs & wagyu chorizo with roasted tomatoes (some Jamie Oliver supermarket buy for dinner. It was delish!)
- 385cal: Mushroom & garlic pearl couscous. Pearl couscous is much easier on my chopsticks than regular ones. This is a double of what my normal freezer pre-measured serving is
- 45cal: Vietnamese Salad
Small tier (280cal):
- 48cal mini babybel light
- 35cal: 100g strawberries
- 110cal: 100g fresh figs (I love fig season!)
Pink box:
- 30cal: 65g blackberries
- 120cal: 130g Full-fat natural yoghurt
- ground mixed spice
My other snack for the day is some lime and cracked pepper seasoned popcorn (90cal). I bought 2 bags today as an impulse purchase (go in for prunes, meat for dinner and water, come out with chips and popcorn as well!).0
