Well, it amazes me that she could figure out how to see the micro nutrients and yet neglected to read my profile where it clearly states that I am not a young woman, and am 52.
It amazes me that she went after you like that at all. You deserve a public apology.

I have been trying to do the same by staying within 1200 calories. I am successful during the week by planning all my meals on Sunday and writing them on a dry erase board stuck to my fridge. I have eliminated bread, pasta and potatoes like you, but have snuck in a couple of pretzels here and there. The weekend is where I fall off, but I am working on that. I feel pretty satisfied with the protein packed meals during the week.

It amazes me that she went after you like that at all. You deserve a public apology.
It's okay, I think I'm flattered that she thought I was young? I also think my food choices are perfectly fine, and that her errors in deeming them to be not so are self-evident.
As for blaming my medical conditions on my diet? Again, what she said reflected more poorly on her than me.
I just can't figure out how she even saw potassium and all that, and it's intriguing me. Sara is right, that's something that's often not entered into the data base.

Interesting thread! Bottom line is 1200 calories works for some and not for others.
Personally as another teeny tiny person, in order to lose weight (slowly might i add) I need to stick to 1200! I do try to zig zag my calories over the week so some days I'm on 800 and others on 1400. Over the week it works out at around 8400 calories.
Also intermittent fasting can help, or just having 2 meals a day. I find if i use these tactics i'm not as hungry on the 1200 cals. My maintenance is 1400 so its a lifelong thing for me really!0 -

I save up for Saturdays (so, somewhat similar), but I set my calorie goal for the lowest amount and then have a 1 minute "cardio exercise" of the calories that I log for Saturday (that I call Saturday calories). You could do the same thing for both IF and zig-zagging.0 -

I used to do IF, i left the calories in my diary at maintenance, and just watched my weekly deficit. It just meant that sometimes my diary wouldn't post on the news feed as completed (when i was under 1200), which i don't care about anyway

I am a petite small boned female and mfp gives me 1210 calories to lose 1 pound a week. I have 7-10 Id like to lose. Here's what today is:
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 1 banana (250) black coffee
Lunch Salad with 4 oz chicken breasts, 75 grams white rice, no dressing, I use a little hot sauce. Orange (~300)
Snack tea with creamer (30) turkey meatballs (160)
Dinner black bean soup (~200) zucchini (~50)
I'll have about 200 left over for a snack before bed.
I drink tea and water during the day, black coffee in the morning.
No not everyone should do this but it is doable.

I don't. My nutritionist told me that this is unhealthy, so I simply will not go back to 1200 calories period.0

I swim for an hour and a half 4 days a week, which gives me an extra 900 calories on those days.....on the non exercise days I do find it quite hard....just a banana for breakfast and try to save the calories for the evening time when I am more hungry.0

Definitely give it a try then. It's much easier doing low calories a few times a week, then it is everyday. With IF you always know what you cant have today, you can have tomorrow

I've been trying to stick to 1200 calories per day - I am not finding it too difficult and have lost 10kg (22lbs) over 9 week. I pretty much don't snack between meals at all which makes it easier, but when I do I have a "bliss ball" or something minimal like that. Its the social outings which get a little tricky though!0

I zig zag...some days I am 800 and some days 1200...very rarely am I over 1200. I have my calories goals set at 1100 with low carb, high protein, mid fat. Most days I don't hit the "end of the day" button on my meals. I just log what I eat and I know whether or not I have hit my calories for the day. Most of the time it becomes dependent on whether or not I am hungry. If I have eaten 850 for the day and I am not hungry, I don't eat anymore. I will say that if I eat 1200 every day for 7 days....I gain. Zigzagging, I tend to lose about 3 lbs a month.0 -

My calories are 1450 for a 1 lb per week loss. I do this mostly through exercise as I would be starving!0

I do not eat anything low-cal, low-fat or low-carb. When I eat something I eat the real deal, meaning all natural and minimally processed ( with that I mean whole wheat or other grains ground into flour, cabbage fermented naturally into sour kraut, bread baked from sour dough etc ). I do not avoid starchy vegetables, but because of health reasons ( RA and Lupus ) avoid processed white flour, added sugar ( but do not limit naturally occuring sugars ever ) and anything chemically processed. I don't eat all that much fruit, because I prefer vegetables and eat a lot of them as I do beans, lentils, chick peas and other legumes and pulses.
I eat a normal amount of protein, mostly from non-animal sources. I am not a vegetarian, but also did not grow up like many American do believing that animal protein or a lot of protein in general is the main point of nutrition, so I keep protein at an acceptable average. I grew up in and now live in a culture that does not snack, plus I practice 18:6 ( give or take an hour ) and eat two satisfying meals a day between 2-8 pm, because I am a volume eater. I do not drink my calories and very rarely eat my exercise calories. It helps that I am under 5 feet tall and going on 70. I have never felt hungry since I joined MFP two years ago and started to eat 1200 calories and have lost 55 pounds. I also don't do cheat meals/days, because I eat exactly what I want....:o), which makes " cheating " not necessary. Well, at least for me.
Over Christmas I went on what would be maintenance for me and found that it was too much food to feel comfortable. I will have to deal with that when I get to maintenance level.0 -

For some people it does not matter if they are super in shape or skinny fat, because they need to lose weight because of maybe heart disease, lung disease or other health problems where the sheer weight is the problem that keep certain organs from working adequately.
When I was told two years ago that I needed to lose weight ( which I knew, but had ignored ) it was mostly to take off pressure of my joints, which with a less than five feet tall body could not carry all my overweight comfortably. I was told to lose as fast as possible as much as possible, getting into good shape was something I could do afterwards. It is something I am doing now. I just walked 90 minutes of which I carried 7 kilos groceries during 35.
In general I agree that 2 pounds a week is a lot to lose consistently. However, since we don't know why the OP has chosen that number I am not going to try to scare her with being skinny fat , because being skinny fat is the least of someone's problems if the overweight itself becomes health or life threatening.0 -
LeenaGee: mamapeach may not be very tall, so these calories may be just fine. She's consistantly eating more than 1,000 calories a day, so I don't think she's in the "danger zone".
One thing I think a lot of people forget to consider when it comes to my(or other's) consuming 1,100-1,200 calories a day, is this won't be a forever calorie set. After I reach my goals I'll be in maintenance, which will give me a few hundred extra calories per day.

I agree, I keep my diary and my life private but mamapeach repeatedly points out the fact her diary is public and constantly advises people on their diets. She is a brave woman.

I set them to "whatever" and then ignore them. There's only one macro I care about, so the rest of the information just doesn't matter.

Leena, I am very short and 52 years old (I am amused you referred to me as young) and have hypothyroidism. I need to run at an extra deficit to lose weight. 2 ounces is the recommended serving size for pasta. Hint: it's measured dry, before cooking.
Editing to add that as for my illnesses? Do some research on how some people have an autoimmune response to pregnancy. Educate yourself.
Editing to add one more thing regarding all the water. I have chronic dry mouth and throat due to a medication I'm taking.

I eat 1200 before my dessert usually and hit all my macros in the first 1200. If I wanted or needed to do 1200 I'd make my dessert a small piece of chocolate and berries and fix up a few other things throughout the day.0

The fact of the matter is that I am not undernourished and my caloric intake is not inappropriate for a woman of my age and height.
Another fact is that my medical conditions have nothing to do with my food intake.
However, I know your posting style, and I know that you rarely back down from anything you say. And that's fine. I don't expect you to change.

It makes a nice big bowlful. I always eat a very large amount of veggies at my main meal. I ate an almost embarrassing amount of broccoli today. On days where I want just a plain pasta meal, I have one of those vegetable spiralizers. I saute spiralized zucchini in a little cooking spray with some garlic powder and then mix it in with the pasta and toss it with the pasta sauce. Instantly doubles or triples the volume. Really great for those hungry days.
