Why is it your favorite? I know all shoes are different, just looking for maybe a general consensus.

You won't find a general consensus. That's why there are so many shoes out there. Some people swear by Asics. I can't wear them--they aren't cut right for my foot. Some people love minimalist shoes. Other people find them sources of recurring injuries that clear up as soon as they get more cushioned ones. Some people want shoes for trail running. Others run only roads. Some people think waterproof shoes are great. Others want water to be able to flow in and right back out. Sometimes you've been wearing one model for years, then the company changes the shoe ever so slightly and the new ones are terrible for you. And sometimes the shoe is still great, but this year's colors just SUCK and there is NO way you are putting that monstrosity on your foot.
The single best pair of running shoes I have ever had were Nike Pegasus Air GTX. They are not manufactured anymore.0 -
I run cross country so this is an exciting topic for me.
My high school coach used to swear by Asics. I tried them and hated them. Too bulky.
I wore Brooks for a while, and then once I got to college, my new coach suggested I try Nike Pegasus. Now I'm hooked. Best shoes I've never worn.
But you really just have to try different shoes until you find a brand that you, personally, like the best. As my high school coach used to say, you won't get injured from your shoes as long as you make sure to get shoes meant for running.
So brand really just boils down to personal preference.

I love the Nike Pegasus 31. I feel like I'm running on air compared to my New Balance.0

I think my Pegasus are 29's.0

I owe 11 pairs of sneakers. 9 pairs are nikes. 1 pair is Saucony. 1 pair is Mizuno. Nikes are my go to shoes. I started running with a friend of mine and he would *kitten* and moan about my Nikes, so to shut him up I tried some of the other brands. I've worn the Sauconys a few times, they are all right. The Mizunos have turned into an every day wear. It's all preference. I really like the Nike frees. They are nice and flexible. If the shoe is too stiff I get terrible pain in my shins. If you have a running shoe store definitely check them out, they normally offer a 30-60 day guarantee. I went to Good Feet store(I live in NY), my first pair of Mizunos were awful even after I tried breaking them in, I took them back after tw months and exchanged them for something different(I think my Sauconys have now).
Good luck on your pursuit of finding good running shoes.0 -
I am currently using Brooks Adrenaline (they're not bad but not perfect either) and owe Mizuno (people love it but it was horrible for me as I now have what feel like permanent injuries because of it) but my favourite has got to be Nike. Somehow they feel so weightless but cushioned. And so pretty.
I think Nike has gotten a lot of bad rep over the years because of their over-commercialisation, etc. Some runners turn their nose up against it and believe that they are 'not serious running shoes', which I personally think is ridiculous. If they fit you well, who cares what the brand is.

There is no consensus everyone is different. Also I would be wary of religiously sticking with one brand or model. The designs and construction change year on year. It's finding styles of shoes that suit you. I run in a variety of shoes with various heel to toe drops which suits me. If your interested not that my choices should have an effect on anyone at present my trail shoes are Adidas, Asics and inov8 with my road shoes being Puma, Adidas, Hoka. That's what works for me at the moment but it's changeable0

I would say your coach is wrong.
Being in the wrong shoes, Adidas Glide 4 then Nike Pegasus 29, definitely contributed to my knee issues.
I dislike Nike due to lack of quality I experienced in high school for my tennis shoes but I was pleasantly surprised at how the Pegasus stood up.
I like Saucony but I'm favoring Karhu and Newton right now.
I used run in Asics but im not digging the GT2000s. Brooks Adrenaline wasnot bad. Didnt like Adidas Ultra boost0 -

That coach is a liability.

Get fitted at a running store that does a foot test - like Jack Rabbit. I pronate, so that led the recommendation. They gave me three brands/styles to try and I found I was most comfortable in a Brooks shoe.0

There is no general consensus, the best shoe is the one that's right for you; motion control, neutral, cushioned, minimalist, zero drop highly cushioned. They all have benefits and disbenefits and it depends on the individual.
Personally for roads I run in an 8mm drop motion control shoe, for winter trail running an 8mm drop neutral and for racing (trails) a 4mm drop neutral0 -

Nike Free Run 5.0
My physiotherapist recommended it for me after a series of injuries (3 sprained ankles and a knee injury in five years). I love them! I have three pairs: one for running (I normally run 4-7 km on road or trails), one for daily wear and one for indoor training.0 -

Glad im not the only one who thinks so0 -
I wear Saucony guide 7. They work great for me, but I have very limited knowledge of distance running, so for all I know, they might be junk ^_^0
