So ice cream is probably the worst culprit to my waist line. I switched to frozen yogurt, which helped a little, but there's still so much added sugar. Then I found it. A recipe for making ice cream using JUST bananas. I was skeptical, but I just tried it. It is AMAZING. I don't think I'll ever go back to ice cream. I a
ctually like this more. I added a couple dashes of cocoa powder to make it chocolate.

Glad you found something that makes you happy.
But frozen banana =/= ice cream. or frozen yogurt.0 -
I've had this before and it is SO good! You can add a dash of PB2 into it to make it peanut butter flavored0

I love me some frozen banana ice cream. I add a little chocolate protein powder to it.0
-
hmmm. i may try this!0

A frozen banana with added PB2 or protein powder will have almost as many calories in 100g as a same-sized serving of gelato or sorbet.
There is money in the banana stand, to be sure....but I'd rather keep working in small servings of high-quality real frozen dairy.0 -
The only thing that replaces ice-cream, IMO, is more ice-cream.0
-
In the vegan community we call this "nice cream"0

^This. I'd have to add the PB2 to make it yummy. I'd rather have Talenti.

I don't think I'll ever go back to ice cream.
Excess within control. That's how I do it.

I had coconut-based frozen yogurt/ice cream. Because the guy I was dating at the time has issues with dairy. It was pretty good. I was surprised at how good it was for my root beer float.0 -

I put frozen banana in my protein shake. Also about 1/4 cup of yogurt. Less of the water. Some vanilla extract. All that goes in the food processor and turns into something like soft serve which tastes great to me.0

.... or sometimes I use frozen strawberries instead of bananas. I tried blueberries once, but the skins made a weird texture. :X0
-
Its still frozen banana. I was surprised how reasonable the calories are for ice cream.0

I'm gonna have to try this. Thanks for the idea0

Daniel Tiger calls it Banana Swirl. It's squishy yummy.0

I've been meaning to try this, saw it on pinterest. Add a little PB too.... <insert: Homer Simpson drooling>0

Plain yogurt plus frozen blueberries is AWESOME... tastes exactly like ice cream to me because I don't eat very much sugar.0
-
I have nothing against doing this if you like it, but when I did the math, I couldn't see a significant difference in calories between a frozen banana with peanut butter (cause I ain't just eatin' the banana) and the same size serving of ice cream. I'd rather have the ice cream.0

I've done it. It's good, but I nearly busted my food processor. Bananas aren't exactly lo-cal or low sugar. You also have to eat it right away. It turns into baby food consistency quickly.0

I have a yonanas maker thing it makes the most perfect banana ice cream mmmmmm i make huge bowls of it all the time0

Glad you found something that makes you happy.
But frozen banana =/= ice cream. or frozen yogurt.
This.
Also +1 on the fact that it is really not more calorie friendly than just eating a serving of regular ice cream or gelato, especially if you are adding things like peanut butter to it.
Plus there is just one flavor of frozen bananas, as opposed to the THOUSANDS of flavor combinations of ice cream/gelato.
And lastly, a lot more cleanup.

This is how I have always felt about it.
I like the frozen banana thing but I'm an ice cream/gelato enthusiast and it's not the same by any stretch.0 -
Banana is not my favorite fruit, but I need to eat more...I need the potassium (and I need to eat more fruit). I am going to try this. I love ice cream (and Talenti gelato). Hopefully, I will like this also.
Thanks, for sharing.0
