I know the standard answer is "If it makes you happy, then where them", but this is the Chit-Chat, Fun and Games category. That answer just doesn't fly ;)

What are your opinions? I'm gonna be honest, until recently, I would have said "Maybe to the beach or pool", but lately, I wear them more. I know it's nothing but me being vein, but I don't care. I know we have a diversified bunch on this board. Hell, Niner would probably wear a tank to a black tie event. Why would DieselByte ever put a shirt on at all?

So what have you? When is it acceptable for a guy to wear a tank top in your opinion?

It's such an intangible thing...but tank tops on guys totally depends. When I think about it, even HOT guys look kinda douchey in tank tops. I think beach and gym only. Can't explain it, but even if you look great in a tank top, I just find it off putting.

Tank tops on men are actually a little more in style at the moment (especially in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). I think they look great on some guys. A few years ago I would have said "no", but the look is growing on me...on the right body.

I think it's almost a thing to avoid anything that is popular in Wburg

Well yeah, if you are Johnny Depp, wear anything you want, or nothing at all. But, otherwise, don't pretend you are Johnny Depp.

Johnny can wear nothing, won't bother me one bit! LOL

Sorry, I have to go with no on this. When I see a male tank-top regardless of colour or pattern I immediately think wife-beater. If you want to show off your "guns" a sleeveless t-shirt works just as well. Now that I have arm muscles I will be wearing them on my walks with my dog, with plenty of sunscreen of course.
Technically I'm a "wife beater" as most of my clients are married females and get the "beat down" daily in the weight room.

Side note: I'm seeing a lot of "a man can wear a tank top as long as he looks hot and/or has nice arms." Do any of you remember the yoga pants thread when a few guys said something along the lines of "girls can wear yoga pants as long as they are this size/have a nice *kitten*..." - I remember it and the *kitten* storm of (some) angry women. Funny how that works. :)

Well I'm of the mind that if you look horrible in something you should not wear it. This is why I do not wear clothes that make me look like a bratwurst. And you won't see me wearing a bikini at the beach, and so on.

I only wear exercise clothes (spandex type capris/biking shorts) when I'm actually exercising. I'm not running around in a sports bra and yoga pants to horrify the general public. :astonished:

meh is what i think of them they are not attractive or repulsive

now if someone calls them a "wife beater" i dont judge the tank top i just judge the person

making light of violence against women and such

I'm not making light of it and I was an abused wife in my first marriage. It's just what they've always been called to me. My late husband didn't like the term, either.

A white Tee or a black Tee is all a man ever needs. Let's not complicate matters.

Yes. Favorite clothes my hubby owns are black fitted Ts and jeans. <3

I used to wear tank tops and sleeveless t-shirts, during an era when I also would wear Panama Jack, Z Cavaricci jeans, Members Only jackets, Spuds McKenzie t-shirts, British Knight shoes, Cardigan sweaters, and a little hoop earring in my left ear. I quit all of that about 25-30 years ago.

If you can’t pull it off, why are you wearing a tank top?

If you can pull it off, why are you wearing a tank top? People totally know that you are fit, even while you are wearing a t-shirt with sleeves, so relax, brah!

edit - I forgot to mention I used to wear gold chains over my outer clothing, sorry
edit 2 - parachute pants, too
edit 3 - I think I went through a phase wear I wore sweatbands on my wrists, outside of an exercise environment

I am the same way, but as far as others idgaf. I just found it funny that when men said something similar in the yoga pant discussion they were told they were bad people and blah blah blah - it went downhill fast.

That's because women complain a lot more than men. :D That comment won't stir anything up, right?

Lol for a females yes. For men they are a no no no no no no no no etc. But if you think about it a lot of guys tanks are meant to be worn under clothes, like the wife beater originally. Original wife beater makes me think of Marlon Brando in a Streetcar named desire......Mmmmm. Not so Mmmm later on in life though.

Yes! I like tanks on guys as long as they're dressed for their body type. (And it's not a professional/formal setting.)

That said, I think a fitted black t-shirt is the absolute best.

I do! But I like guys to be hairy in different places than I am. ;)

What if you naturally don't have any hair under your arms? Am I okay then?

Idgaf what people think bout my tanks, BUT I know that I get hit on way more when I'm out shopping wearing a tank vs regular t-shirt.

Obviously wouldn't wear it to a club, work or restaurant, but most other places I wear them
