To the people who have a "terms and conditions" in their 'about me' for people adding them..

Thank you. I did not know this haha
I wouldn't have known either had I not started using mfp before the app. You should see it sometime, there's plenty of things that are missing from the app.
Didn't know this either! Can totally add more pics on the website vs the app.

I am the pickiest when adding people on FB but here I don't care. I'll friend anyone! And if they turn out to be kinda racist or promotes eating disorders or whatever, I unfriend them0
-
I dunno. The only time I've seen 'terms and conditions' as you've put it was one person, who just wanted to let everyone know up front that she didn't want to deal with anyone trying to convert her to their religion. It didn't offend me in the least, since I consider religion a very personal matter, too.0

I suppose it's a double edge sword, add everyone and anyone and it may appear one is trying to win a popularity contest.
Don't add everyone and come off as an elitist hipster.
At the end of the day it's just the internet, there's no real loss.0 -
Oh my hell.. .people are funny. I agree with OP, it is silly for people to post a Terms of Service agreement to be friends... It doesn't bother me enough to start a post about it, but it does make me roll my eyes enough that I will chime in on this one.
What I am chiming in about isn't necessarily the annoyance running into someone like that causes me... but the annoyances that spiteful, mean, or maybe just unpleasant people who feel they have to belittle or berate a forums posters because they have nothing better to do in life than to spread their little negative seeds.
Have a cookie? Panties in a wad? Must upset you so much your world must be affected by it? Oh my hell.. it was just a post... its called venting. It isn't like she is dwelling on it, carrying it into her "off MFP" life, or any of that silliness.
People can be so vile and "NAGative".
Makes me wonder if they are the high maintenance members who have a terms of service agreement for their friendshits on here.0 -
I tend to add everyone, I initially didn't add people who didn't send a message and didn't have any forum posts or mutual friends, because I didn't know where they came from, but meh. Either they interact or they don't. Even so I have a core group of buddies I interact with far more than anyone else.
As for T&C, well, as mine says, no ED diaries or behaviour. Hasn't stopped a few people, but that's what the unfriend button is for.0 -

OH MY GOD at least one of them is!! ROFL that was too funny!

I mean they sometimes they sound a little pretentious like that one guy you mentioned haha. But I understand it.0

I wonder if those people with a long list of terms and conditions do the same in the real world. Picture this:
Two people meet and greet. Then, wait for it, here it comes:
"Hi, you cannot be my friend, date me or add call me if you are not going to call me every day, give me a long list of reasons why I should let you into my life, give me your previous friends history, tell me all about your life, your habits and food preferences. All this in the next five minutes. Oh don't forget the references."
Get a grip. That can scare people away. The person who can help you, support you and pick you up when you fall, might just be the person that sees your terms and conditions and doesn't add you as a friend. Just because people don't meet your requirements doesn't mean they are not worthy of your friendship. We all have a life to live and some of us are busier than others. Some of us have internet problems.
Variety is the spice of life and having a variety of people as friends can make you life a little more interesting.
OP, you can add me if you like, I don't have terms and conditions.

why is everyone so hangry0

I like this thread, personally my only conditions are that the person sending a requests sends a message too. I have been friends before with people who have a strict set of criteria for who can be friends with them. Usually set around how often you post updates, being super serious about your fitness goals, etc. Unless these people are serious athletes, they generally seem to demand a lot of people for their friendship and I often wonder what it is they're offering in return? Are they really that special? I'm happier not being friends with those type of people. I'm very serious about health & fitness, but I also like people.0

THIS!! That's exactly what I mean, the T&C's are ridiculous! So much pressure to be a certain kind of user when we all should be supportive of one another. Each to their own I know, but I was just sayin it's sort of ridiculous... and a little bit arrogant going on about how many friend requests you must get that you have to have a T&C in your about me. Like seriously, I wonder how many friend requests these people get a day or something it must be catastrophic.. Ironically I wonder how many friend requests they get BECAUSE they have all that bull-*kitten* in their 'about me' biggin them up to be the most popular MFP user ever..
Well anyway! And I will add you now0 -

If someone can't read and follow simple instructions posted on my profile, (your examples are extremely exaggerated for the most part) then clearly they are a.) too stupid or b.) too lazy comply and are therefore not worth my time.
I also explain why I require a message with FRs, because if I don't know who the hell you are, it's creepy to get a request from a complete stranger without knowing where they found me. Also I like to know why I sparked someone's interest, because if they expect me to sexy-talk with them, send nudes, or be their nanny/cheerleader, I know better than to accept.
Is worried about what reason someone has for a friend request...yet has a practically nekkid profile pic for all the world to see...seems legit to me.0 -
I just can't imagine this bothering me.0

I'm new here and really don't care.0

Eh. People normally have prerequisites for just about anything in life. Some may baffle you, but the reality is, they aren't you nor may have your perspective. So you look and if you don't like, don't add. No biggie.

So true, I'm pretty new to this website and everyone's so uppity.. just wanted to make a joke of it because people put up so many barriers and are so selective about who they should be friends with when its just sorta silly no need to be so serious all the time when we're all just here for the same thing!
Although my post turned into an argument very fast ha.. it wasn't intended as that.0 -

To be fair, you say other people are uppity when you just kinda waltzed in and made fun of/chewed out a bunch of people who did nothing but be particular in their personal profiles. If you walked into a room full of people and started saying to everyone "OMG, can you believe the people in here? what wankers!" do you think it would go down well? Really... you're hardly the victim here.0 -

The difference is, mine took three seconds to write and post. It is WAY more serious for you. Why do you even care enough to write an essay about the antics of some of the users here? I guess if I'm going to say "use this place for whatever you want," I should accept the fact that you're going to use it to question what other people use it for. Last time I checked though, judging how other people set up their profile is probably considered 'uppity' as well, no?
You're still fairly new here and a pretty girl at that. Give it long enough and you'll receive a few creepy FRs without messages and before you know it, you're getting pics of creepy FRs peen sent straight to your inbox without warning!0 -

I get where everyones coming from but the lass is just speaking her mind.

And I'm just saying that you can't expect people not to arc up when you start a thread for no purpose other than to have a crack at people. I'm not saying you haven't got every right to do it, just saying that you can't expect to not cop some backlash (and rightly so, if you're having a go at others) *shrug* Seems pretty hypocritical.

It was a joke!! It doesn't ACTUALLY keep me up at night despite contrary belief.. I was only trying to make people laugh man. Well thanks, maybe I will but I won't make a huge song and dance about it in my 'about me', I'll just delete them
