Something I learned to avoid carbs

this was a light bulb moment for me. A dietician told me to eat my protein first, then eat veggies so by the time I got to carbs I would likely be full & to stop when 80% full.

Really no reason to avoid carbs unless you have a medical condition that requires you to.

LisaLydens - of course veggies are good carbs...low carb foods, good carbs. So I'm sure what you meant were the sweet carbs, the simple ones that are not good for us. Thank you for sharing.

Awesome advice OP, thanks for sharing.

On the basis you dont want to eat carbs, then why bother? Just fill up on protein, then you really will be too full to want to eat anything else.

Carbs cause insulin levels to rise in your body, which in return make you eat more and gain weight. Carbs are horrible! You wanna see some fast weightloss? Just setyour carbs to 20% :D and you will be blown away :)

There is no such thing as a food that makes you eat more. You either eat or you don't.

If bad carbs go to confession, can they be forgiven and become good carbs?

Only if they perform an act of contrition.

And you will gain it all right back the second you eat carbs. Sounds like a horrible long term plan for me. Good luck though. Everyone has their own way

I beg to differ. Cutting grain-based carbs is what makes a difference for me. I don't completely eliminate them, but I have as few as possible, getting my carbs almost exclusively from fruits and vegetables. I do the same as LisaLydens, except I usually eat my salad first, then my proteins.

Considering all fruits, all vegetables, all dairy, and all grains have carbs to think you are eliminating them completely is a pipe dream!

    Could they be granted indulgences?

That's a good idea, Lisa. And I know you meant those heavy carbs like bread or rice, not veggies. :)

OP yes i learned the same thing. I increased my carbs these last few days due to some supplements I am taking. And I have been over my calories. I rarely go over my calories when I eat a keto based diet. I am over my calories because i ate some cheez-its, now i am still hungry. Maybe biological science doesn't exist and it's just bad luck.

And yet on days where I eat more carbs I manage to stick to my calorie allowance, and it's not because I'm suffering through unspeakable (or any) hunger. Go figure.

There is nothing wrong with carbs. Carbs cause you to eat more and lose control!?! Oh my how terrible. How terribly untrue. When do we stop blaming the food for our over indulgence?

You're blaming your poor food choice and subsequent hunger on a macronutrient?

You can eat carbs and not eat over your calories. You can eat carbs with some sort of nutritional density.

If you wanted to stick to your goals you should have used some self restraint and not eaten more. Don't blame the food

Heavy carbs? They weigh more than veggies?

OP it has more to do with the type of carbs, carbs aren't necessarily the issue. The more processed it is, the more likely you will over eat it.

Again, untrue or is that just a personal opinion because you can't control yourself around those types of food?

I completely agree, eat within your daily balance x.x how hard is it to understand? I love my carbs, most people do like carbs. Eat them, stay within the limit. If you don't learn to control yourself with all types of food how do you expect to keep the weight off when you're done? Don't do things that you can stick to for the rest of your life.

You should know n = 1 isn't valid for the general population. With all BS aside, in all honesty. As I said before, as I also said in my last post on this topic. Carbs aren't necessarily bad, It's the type of carbs, the more processed the carb the more likely you will over eat it. I highly doubt the majority of your carb source on your higher carb days is chips, donuts, hoho's etc..

A majority of my carb source was that today. I took a day and just enjoyed myself. Coolatta, some oreos, some popcorn yet i stayed in my calorie goal.

I think what she meant is that bad carbs, ie. ding dongs, twinkies, donuts, etc., cause you to WANT to eat more because they are simple sugars and not very filling at all. I could eat a whole box of Krispy Kreme donuts and not even bat an eyelash, but if I eat complex carbs like broccoli, or whatever, it's hard to OD on those. Hey, sugary crap is what got me too many rolls in the first place.

Says the person who is always pulling out his own N = 1. Just because you overeat on processed carbs doesn't mean everyone does. Stop blaming the food and exercise some will power.
