May 2015 Running Challenge

Sorry to hear about Forrest Gump (my youngest son's favourite movie). A great running dog is worth their weight in gold as far as I'm concerned. That's mine (Kady) in my icon. She has run almost all of my 802km since September 2014. I leave her at home for 10km+ runs if it is hot out and we are city not forest running. Between Kady and my wife I would not again be a runner. The "girls" in my life helped me get back on track!0

Happy Mom's Day Ladies!
Wendy1Fl - So sorry Forrest did not work out. I must agree with mwyvr - a great running dog is worth their weight in gold! We have one, "Mickey". She's lovely. But sadly I must leave her home on the long runs now. They just exhaust her.
8 hard miles today. Hot and Humid. Ran out of water in my Camelbak.

Wrapped up my long run this morning before it gets too hot. Passed by the local race for the cure on my route as they were setting up, then got to cheer on runners after wrapping up my 12 miles. Knees are feeling slightly sore, but I seem to be otherwise recovering OK from the marathon. 2 more weeks of easy running before I'm allowing myself to resume running intervals/speedwork/anything faster than a 10 minute mile.

5/10: 15 miles

Wanted 20 today, but couldn't hack it. Calf was ok with compression socks on, but those made my legs really tired, plus the raging humidity, the likes of which I haven't seen in 9-10 months. Going to take one more run at it (see what I did there? ) next week, because that's 2 weeks out from my race and I absolutely MUST taper after that. Eeeeek. I hate having vague injury problems leading up to a marathon!

Just a fun 5K for a pet rescue organization. Wasn't officially timed and I took it really slow since it was so hot out. Not sure I can take the Florida heat and running in daylight!

@ all who liked the crocheted road poles: aparently, that is a thing called "yarn bombing" (wiki). Pretty cool, actually. If only I didn't knit so slow that it takes me two month to finish a single sock, I would be tempted to knit a few tree-wraps myself.
Wow, @Elise4270, really great to read that you could up your mileage without pain.
@HonuNui: 6" sounds pretty huge! I don't think I ever saw a moth of that size.
@Wendy1Fi : sorry to hear Forrest was not a good much. Hopefully the name sais it all and Hope will be a better match!
@kristinegift I'll keep my fingers crossed for your next shot at 20 miles.
On today's run, I came across one of my favourite sets of stairs. And I managed to run all the way to the top without walking, all 173 steps of them! Well, not really run, more of a slow jog, but still . My next goal will be to keep running when I reach the top, instead of stumbling around gasping for air...

0 -

5/4 -5.51 miles
5/6 - 2.49
5/7- 6.32
5/10- 5.57

We've had substantial rainfall. I'm guessing 12+ inch's this week. Here's a bridge my kids and I could walk under when the water was at normal levels. I'm guessing its up easily 4-6 vertical feet.

did 6 miles on 5/9 and 4 miles on 5/10, so total is now 58 miles as of 5/10. Judging by progress so far, I might fall short of goal of 200 miles for the month but will re-calibrate the goal as the month progresses.0

I was "Running With The Cows" this morning. Set a new HM PR 2:37:20.4. I was gunning for 2:35 but felt some tenderness in my achilles the last mile and a half so I dialed it down. I think it's OK but I think I will take it easy and do just recovery pace all week and maybe even next weekends HM to be safe.
@WhatMeRunning Congrats on your PR! Way to go! 2 minutes faster than my HM PR.
@Wendy1Fl Sorry about Forest Gump! :-(

The possible seconds you could PR by at HM #2 (you're still recovering by then, even if you feel good) are not going to be worth the setback from an overused Achilles. Go easy and celebrate the big accomplishment you have0 -
