Thanks all for the advice. I'm resting it and will probably see how it is on Saturday since it is a very, very mild injury (I hesitate to even call it an injury, but it is and is not something I want getting worse).
@booklover22 - Some days suck, that can be true for everyone. Heat makes running harder by raising your heart rate. So even if you are doing a slow jog, if it is hot out the overall impact at that exact same speed is higher as if you were doing something a little more strenuous. So in the heat you need to slow it down to match your desired level of effort. Your heart rate can also be high if you are not rested yet, which can also be a source of a really hard run (your body hasn't bounced back yet). Could be one, or the other, or both even! Since you're new to long runs also be sure you are running them at a proper pace. That one has stung me more recently, leaving me sapped of strength for shorter runs.
I don't have any miles to record today (or for at least the next few days either) to rest this achilles. But I did want to pop on here because @Stoshew71 asked that I let him know when the Half Fanatics snatched me away and threw me in the asylum. Patient #11765 reporting in!0 -
Have not had a chance to catch up on everyone yet but will read on my phone in the car on the long drive to DC today (8 hours in the car...) Looks like everyone is doing great. I do want to check in on @LoneWolfRunner and see how the run went with the fractured big toe...
I have been trying to get some running in at the gym on the treadmill even though it is miserable - I can't wait to run outside again!

I love seeing all those trail run pictures Mr. SonicDeathMonkey and Mr. LoneWolfRunner! I'm too cautious to run on trails, let alone take a path through the creek!
Mr. CodeMonkey78- Kudos to your wife's first continuous mile. Great pace!
Miss Elise4270 -hoping the flooding has subsided. Whatever you do, don't try to run through that stream
Miss Kristinegift -I'm praying for your calf to heal up quickly. Be encouraged. You are young and have the rest of your life to run!
WTG everyone. You are all an inspiration to me!

Thanks! It is feeling much better, and I'm testing out a 3 miler on it this evening. I'm feeling pretty darn optimistic about it. Hopefully I'll be back to normal mileage tomorrow0 -
I need to try to get in a run even if my rear hurts and my back is threatening to flare up. I could just turn on my garmin and drive around the park then tell everyone I ran a 3:11 marathon..crazy story

@WhatMeRunning Thanks! I picked up a heart rate monitor that helps me identify my zones and have been studying the mechanics of it recently, so your advice encourages me that I am on the right path. Today was better, but I am still trying to figure out hills.
5/12- 4.2 Miles, 8.5 to go.

Rest day 5/11 - 4 mile walk, 5/12 - 6 mile run, total - 68, 132 more miles to go, if I cannot hit 100 by 15th (very unlikely), I will change the goal for rest of the month to 150.0

4.5 today. My garmin says my recovery time is 59 hours. I might want to think about that...

I was a running buddy to Jasmine, who is easily the most competitive kid I know, but we just went out and had fun, even took a detour through the fountains because it was SO hot. She finished in about 38 minutes- no chip timing- and was so proud of herself. Asked me to keep coming to her school so we could run together for fun
Spent the rest of the weekend back packing in Red River Gorge. Here's the view from my hammock Sunday morning (tents are for wimps):
Home of the Rugged Red in September! You doing it?
@SonicDeathMonkey80
Oh man, it wasn't originally on my calendar, since I'll be tapering for my Half Ironman, but I think I can work out a way to fit that into my taper., because that looks so very awesome.
3 mile brick run for me today.
A measly 11.5/75 miles this month.0 -
5/1: 5.2 miles
5/2: REST
5/3: 12 miles (scheduled: 20; left calf was not having it today)
5/4: REST
5/5: 1 mile (meant to bike to rest my calf, but the bike room was closed for asbestos removal )
5/6: 5 miles
5/7: 6.1 miles
5/8: REST
5/9: REST
5/10: 15 miles
5/11: REST

Proclaiming my calf 95% healed! I'll do an easy 4-5 tomorrow, then probaby 5-6 with my running group Thursday and then play it by ear for Friday and the weekend so I can run my 20 miler in optimal temps. Woo hoo!
