On a personal level, medical conditions and total diet determine how healthy a food is, but I would agree with this as a general statement. When it comes to carbs, I firmly believe fiber is king.0 -
It's a matter of personal choice. I'm choosing to push foods that are refined or improperly processed further from my habits. The older you get, the more you realized how much you abused your body when you were younger. But as you get older, you don't rebound metabolically as well...your organs don't have the reserves to handle the abuse as much. You're more sensitive. It's a good thing, really. I tend to agree...I guess I'm wondering why refined grains would be less healthy if my body doesn't 'react negatively' to them.

Our obesity crisis started when we were all told to eat low fat, and eat "healthy whole grains". Eat less grain, and get thinner.

I tend to agree...I guess I'm wondering why refined grains would be less healthy if my body doesn't 'react negatively' to them.
From nutritional stand point, MY body is getting less nutrition from refined grains. Hence, it is less healthy as opposed to whole grains. Further, I get blood sugar spike (I'm type 2 diabetic) to refined grains which is a negative response. Overall, refined grains is less healthy if not at all healthy for me.

Quinoa is not a grain -- botanically it is in the berry family.
Bulgar is a grain.
Both are good.
