I'm 18.5 weeks from my first planned HM. I downloaded a 16 week training plan from halfmarathons.com..

My goal is to finish 2-2:15. Any advice?

Your first race should be to complete, regardless of time. Save the burden of PR'ing for subsequent races. If you must target a time, you should race a 5K and plug your time into a race prediction calculator to see if this is even attainable instead of just picking a finish time because it sounds nice.

Yes, that is what I've done. My Garmin says I can do it in 2:05. But I'll be happy to do < 2:30. I will concentrate on running/training for a healthy happy run. I'd like to run the rock n roll half in Dallas in march 2016. So I think your right not to worry about a PR, just get the green off ;)

I'm adding up the training miles and wondering if I bit off more than I can handle with the increase temperatures and my schedule has changed, back to 6-3 which near eliminates AM runs. Unless I deem 4am safe. I am nonetheless excited to start!

@Stoshew71 thanks for June's challenge. I wouldn't be ready to start half training without joining these!

@HonuNui I love it when you post your snorkeling pictures. I used to manage a saltwater aquarium store. I have seen many of those beautiful fish you post, but in captivity. I didn't realize it at the time how destructive the hobby is to these creatures & their environment. It warms my heart to see them happy, free, and healthy in their natural environment. I'll never put one in a glass box full of sewage water again!

Keep in mind your Garmin is going to fluff your ego. Mine says I should be doing a 1:25 half, and I'm a 1:28. I'd try McMillanrunning dot com too and maybe meet halfway :)

Completed my first 5k today. Slow time at 42:18 but it was at 80% humidity and I struggle with humidity. At least i know what to expect and can only improve from there. 12:17, 14:28, 14:59 for my splits.

    5/7 - 2.25
    5/12 - 3.25
    5/16 - 3.75
    5/17 - 1.5
    5/20 - 3.0
    5/22 - 2.25
    5/24 - 3.0
    5/25 - 2.5
    5/27 - 1.5
    5/29 - 3.1

Total: 26.1 over my goal of 25 by a smidge

Congrats! That's awesome! That humidity sound killer. I don't know if I could even finish if I had to run in that.

@SonicDeathMonkey80 ya, I noticed that my garmin thinks I'm faster than I am. My last 5k was 31:31, it was hilly and I'm still struggling with piriformis syndrome. Garmin says I can shave 4 minutes off of it. Which I can, when I get healed up.

I'll check out the McMillan running. Thanks again.

@Stoshew71 the first group of runners made that hill look easy. Then Crap! Oh that's awful!

@skippygirlsmom Wanted me to post this. It was from the Cotton Row 10K we both did this past Monday.
It is shot from mile 3 halfway up the dreaded hill on Mountainwood Drive. You can see me ~8:30 into the video.
I actually pass the 3 mile flag at 8:33 into the video. But you can't see me because the other guy in blue shorts and red tank top (wearing sunglasses) is blocking me. I am the guy in blue shorts and red tanktop but wearing the white hat.

    The caption on YouTube read:

See the race from The Hill !

Kenyan native Julius Kogo (#6) wins at 29:34, just missing a course record (and $5000 bounty) by 21 seconds. Although delayed by more than an hour by a fallen tree, this year's Memorial Day event enjoyed cool, breezy weather.

This is from last years's Cotton Row 10K (2014). I ran this one as well. My first time and only 2nd 10K ever. I was maybe only running for 6 months. You can see me from 10:19-10:26 into the video. Same blue shorts a different red tank top wearing sunglasses and a red hat. Actually, my profile pic <<<< was taken from that very same race.

@Elise4270 @SonicDeathMonkey80 I use the Nike + app and it is always off on distance. Most races I run have me going farther than the actual race length. I run with a friend a lot that uses the same app but has a different phone. We will start together and run side by side, but he is consistently hitting mile markers faster and at the end of a run can have up to 15 sec/mile faster time than me when we were next to each other every step.

Another run down, will hit my monthly goal tomorrow but will run again Sunday too for good measure! Great job to all for hitting or going after their goals!

4.86 today.. Makes 62.99/75 weather permitting I am going to try to get a couple hours in tomorrow. My husband will be out of town, I'll probably reward my efforts with a Sopparo.

The HM training plan I'm using has me running 4 days a week. Do you still cross train? Bike?Swim? Strength?

Which training plan are you using? Sorry if you stated it already, didn't see it. I'm also doing a HM in 18 weeks. I didn't realize it was that close but my daughter is doing it too and she told me a few days ago... you know the HM is in 18.5 weeks! Then I saw your questions. You aren't doing the Long Island Divas one, are you?
Anyway, I've been reading the great answers to your question.
Thanks @SonicDeathMonkey80 -for your answers to Elise -- I'm going to just try to finish as you stated. Will check out the McMillan as well. My daughter used Hanson's but I don't have enough time to do that since I run in the mornings so early. There is a "just finish" in the Hanson's that I might do. But since I bike 2x a week most weeks and lift weights 2x a week it doesn't leave a lot of days. But I can always double up I guess.

Also, of all crazy things, I might do a 100 mile bike ride for Ronald McDonald house mid-Sept. So I'd be training for both of these at the same time.

@ddmom0811 I started with the halfmarathons.com 16 week plan. Think I'll look at the 20 week and trim 10 days off it.

I'm doing the Spirit of Survival in Lawton OK Oct 4th.

I took my dog, Kody, out running with me tonight, thinking the rain had stopped. It started up about halfway through and now I'm in the doghouse because he's got that stinky wet dog smell now. Oh well...

My second time running in the rain. I'm finding I quite enjoy it.
