Who else's world was shaken when Beyonce announced....she was.....Vegan! Is seems she thinks it is a deep dark secret and deserves acclaim for coming out with such a revelation. Proud that she was able to overcome diversity of food prejudice.
I am not vegan, and I do not know much about it. So I admit ignorance. I am asking, Is it so hard of a life choice for you vegans out there. Do you feel the need to hide it until you are brave enough to announce it to the world? I know it is just for publicity, but, I am just curious if actual vegans feel this way.

Honestly, it's nice when a celebrity waits a while to claim veg*n of any sort, because it really hurts the movement when they flip flop back and forth (ex: Andre 3000, the vegan that wears endangered animals' fur... whyyyy). There are TONS of vegan celebrities that have been vegan for over a decade. Do they really talk about it? No. Do I wish they would? I think it would help the movement for people to see that it is maintainable long term. I've been doing it for about a decade now, but I'm not famous so it doesn't help veganism beyond my personal reach, haha.0

I was a vegan for years and I never put too much thought into it or what anyone else thought about it, lol. It's just a diet choice, so yeah, she's seeking attention as always. But I have noticed that most vegans are pretentious "Oh, look at me I am so cool and healthy and new age..." yawn.0

Sooo....hipsters?0

Celebrities will do anything to be in the spotlight.
Also, a vegan diet is a diet choice. Veganism is a lifestyle choice.

Beyonce isn't a Vegan as she still wears fur. Being a Vegan is a lot more than food. it's not newsworthy it's just she has a big publicity machine promoting her new venture.
As a Vegan these fake vegans do more harm than good.0 -
If a vegan does crossfit which do they talk about first?-thefatjewish

Well I think she wanted it to be in the news because she is promoting a vegan business she is starting, but I don't know all of the details of that. I am a vegan. I don't like bashing people over the head with it. But it is something I feel has impacted my life in a really positive and healthy way, so if people find out I am vegan and ask me questions I do talk to them about it. But I don't try to convert people or judge them and I don't just go around telling people about it, just like people that eat meat don't usually walk up to me and say they are omnivores I think some people when they are newly vegan are excited and want to share with others, especially if they have lost weight or seen other health benefits, same as being excited about any other healthy change to your life, you want to share with others.0

especially if you also crossfit...

S0, being a vegan is a status symbol? I like my meat, but I would beat you with a stick if I saw you torturing an animal. Now, I buy organic cows from a farmer. Quarter cow at a time. They are organically fed and live on a farm free grazing. They live a good life until its time to eat. But, to be honest, If I had to drop the axe myself, I would probably be vegan too.0
-
No, I don't find it news worthy at all. Then again, I watch the news and ask myself why are they reporting this to half of the stuff being reported.0
-
The vegans I know are pretty low-key about it and I really didn't know until we broke bread together. The ones who seem like *kitten*-hats are the ones that are doing it because they think they will magically lose weight or they are better than you cuz they don't eat meats cuz it's bad.
So in conclusion:
The real title of the OP should be "Being a *kitten*-Hat.......Is it really news worthy??"0 -

To some people, I think it is.0 -

But...there are a&sshats in every facet of life. If the A&sshats were not Vegan, they would just be annoying another demographic. Being An asshats is a way of life that people choose. And some are really good at it.

I'm only vegetarian, but I don't announce it to the world. It's funny, some friends of ours wanted to have us over for dinner, and when my husband told them I don't eat meat they didn't know what to make. They took us out to eat instead. A lot of people don't seem to understand that I'll find something to eat, usually sides. Unless the only thing on the menu is a ham, I won't go hungry. I can eat anywhere, and not eat meat, and not announce it.
Being vegan is more difficult though, I can recognize that. It would be very difficult to go out anywhere and avoid all dairy, egg product, etc. Which is one reason I won't go vegan. That, and general cost.
Beyonce' announcing that she is eating vegan though, is to give publicity to her new book. I'm sure she also wants to spread the word of what a difference it has made for her personally, as well. But I hope her new diet book has taken in to account that not everyone will be having personal chefs carefully preparing their meals, which can make it more difficult for the average Joe.0 -

I would say that it is likely that the vast majority of vegans don't go around talking it up and they are legit in their stances and beliefs...unfortunately, it only takes a very small and vocal minority to create that high horse stereotype and *kitten* it up for all of the good people.
Pretty much can be said for any lifestyle or religion really...it's usually a vocal minority that makes it appear that everyone has lost their *kitten* minds...0 -

Which I am "sure" she wrote herself.

She announced it because she's starting a business venture.
I'm unimpressed.

I think the longer someone has been vegan the less annoying they get with it, you start to learn how to talk to people about it, or not talk to people about it...
My first few years of being vegan I was incredibly annoying and completely the stereotype. Now that I've been vegan for as long as I have, i would like to say i'm less pushy and irritating..... at least about that. This doesn't hold true for all of us, but for most that I've personally seen....
you catch more flies with honey....errr
From everything I'm reading most vegans are super happy about Beyonce "coming out" but I'm still confused about the fur stuff...I want to like her because of her feminist stance, but I can't get past the fur and that stupid put a ring on it song....
I feel the same way about Ellen DeGeneres....everyone LOVES her, but I can't get past the fact that she claims vegan but she is a spokes person for Cover Girl....annoys me.0 -

Is it possible that some Vegans only think of protecting the animals we widely eat. If you do not eat "rabbit" then they are fair game? Rabbit are not considered food for most people.

I've never heard anyone think that way, according to the philosophy that is not really a vegan idea.
But who the heck knows, people are freaking bizarre.0
