@morgori, @skinnyjeanz, @kah, I am so jealous. I was just getting back into the donating when I got cancer last year, and now I can't donate for at least 5 years until I get off the Arimidex. Boo hoo! Well I wasn't even back to a gallon (it had been years and years since I donated) but I really wanted to donate and I really LIKE to donate, so it's a bummer for me. I'm A+, not as universally desired as O+ or AB- or whatever, but common enough that I was always welcomed. Oh well <sigh>.
@ushkii - shake it off hun, and get back on the wagon. Learn from it though - skip the salty peanuts and go for fruit instead, or something else healthy.
I've been suffering some stomach issues the last few days but I'm on the mend. Haven't gotten to work out, but my diet's been pretty good, I logged another LB loss, and MFP tweaked my calorie allowance downward as a result. Ah well, it's ok, I'm getting better at judging what I should eat - I usually pack my food for the day at home and then log it at work, and I'm not usually far off from what's allowed. I eat a LOT of veggies, tho I'm not by any means a vegetarian - I just love veggies. So that helps in controlling my calorie count, since I fill up on those and don't have much room left for other things. Late night snacking is my bane tho, so I usually leave some soup or veggies or something that I can eat late without too much damage (you know I work nights....).
DH is still in the nursing/rehab facility... not sure if he WANTS to come home, or if he's afraid to come home and not have someone around 24/7 - I kinda feel the same way. Not sure what's going to happen once he does, 'cause I have to work, no options there, and I'm not sure if we're going to be able to get someone to keep an eye on him while I'm gone. Will just have to wait and see. But he does seem to be stronger so maybe he'll come home soon.
This weekend is father's day, not sure what we will do. Anybody have fun plans?

Last night I was soo hot sleeping....pretty much like that all the time I give blood. Like my body turned up the temp to make more blood... Not hot like a fever though. This morning I was really tired, but I walked anyway. The people I walk with aren't fast walkers so it went fine. Partly raining and partly sunny. Invigorating!
@Morgori Good for you in giving! I think I am only at the 2.5 gallon mark. I need to research about trying to combine all my donations from California and Oregon, so I can see just how much I have done. At least to keep track.

@Morgori were you donating platelets there? I have a scar where I have donated lots (about 10 times in California) Sometimes even a double donation!

@skinnyjeanzbound aww thanks for the belated wishes. I felt like a queen with all the the well wishes on here, and with my TOPS group. Truely blessed to have you all! You are entitled to a break now and then, you body will appreciate it  That is cool to know that I burn calories in donating. I am drinking water like a fish today as well.
ok...weird. Police were here at my apartment complex looking for an escaped Iquana. They found him though. Coastal police are cool. All three of them. We have two police cars as well. Don't get into trouble on the weekends though. I knocked on the police station door, and there weas no one answering. I had a huge box of my husbands medications that I was turning in to their on site medicine recycling center there. Not that day though. Sometimes the police put a car in a certain "Y" in one of the main roads to the highway. In the car is a realistic policeman cut out. It does make you slow down!

Hurray today the last day of school and work. It was a bitter-sweat day since we have to many people leaving the school and getting a new principal. I did get in a long bike ride today after work. I went 20 miles with my co-worker who is an avid biker. I learned several things from her today so that should make riding easier in the future. Hopefully, we will ride together again in the near future. The only problem was the heat and humidity today so I really did not feel like eating after the ride but managed to eat something. Now at 9:50 pm I am hungry and I already had a snack tonight.

Have a great day. Tomorrow I have a swim meet so another busy day. Sunday should be quiet due to rain coming into the area. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Annr Thanku for your platelet donations!! My 14 year old daughter has ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenia) which basically means that her body attacks and destroys platelets.(meaning if her platelets are at critical levels and she gets in a car accident or something she could bleed to death). Twice since Jan she's had critical levels and has had to have platelet infusions. So Thanku we appreciate those who donate

It's been hot here (100 yesterday and 103 today!) so I've been sweating and hot! My family wanted to go to Taco Bell today and I was shocked that my favorite taco salad has 780 calories!! I settled for a couple taco's and was glad I ate a lite lunch!!

    Hi guys!

Welcome to all of the new folks!

@laurie--woohoo! you are done with the school year! It is always sad when people leave. I've those who are truly friends end up remaining a part of my life despite not working with me. I hope the same is true for you. A new principal is always anxiety-inducing. Have you met the new person, or do you know anything about her/him?

@tom--love the picture of your donation! Two more weeks and I'll be back in that chair!

AFM--last night I went to see a play written by a life-long friend. She also directed and acted in it. It was really good, though I liked the last one she did better. The venue was at a bar/restaurant so sort of a dinner theater style. Despite the show being good, the service and food at the bar were terrible. I ordered a chicken caesar salad, and it was tiny with about 1 oz of chicken. They brought the dressing on the side and there was barely 2 tblsps in the dish. At least I don't use much normally, but it was pretty disappointing for $11. Overall, a nice night out with friends though.

    Saturday Success:
Well, my first week of summer vacation has been pretty good. I didn't make my protein goal every day, but I've done very well at staying under calories. The one day I went over this week was more than made up for on the days I was under goal. I also got to the gym twice to run. Still haven't done my 8k for the month. I think that's gonna have to be on Monday b/c today I'm cleaning the fish tank (yuck!) and tomorrow we go to my sister's for Father's Day.

    June Challenge:
Nutrition = At or over 90 grams of protein 25/30 days -- 10/25

Exercise = run 10 x minimum this month including at least one 8k.
    3/10 runs; x/1 8ks

    Run another 8k (Thanksgiving 8k = 56:49, NYE 8k = 57:47, 1/25 = 55:41; 2/28=55:15, 3/29 = 59:15; 5/9 = 59:16)

    Exercise Goals:
Sun--walk gunner DONE + yard work DONE
    Mon--walk gunner DONE
Tues--walk gunner DONE + gym DONE
    Wed--walk gunner DONE
    Thurs--rest day
Fri--walk gunner DONE + gym DONE
Sat--walk gunner + gym or run outside

@TMudong - sorry to hear about you daughter's health problems but it sounds like you have learned to live with it. Where do you live that it's already in the triple digits? Normally by now here in central Texas it would have hit trips but thanks to El Niño we've had an exceptionally wet and relatively cool spring/early summer.

    Hi everyone!

Had another good food day. Didn't get to the gym or outside with gunner (weather didn't cooperate), but I did get the fish tank cleaned. My other Tuesday goal was to get the bathroom floor tile cleaned and seal the grout. I never got that done this week. However, I got most of the rest of the bathroom cleaned mostly thanks to gunner. He was really freaking out about the thunder tonight, and when that happens the only place he feels semi-safe is in the bathroom and then only if I'm in there with him. Since I had to be in the bathroom anyway. I figured I would get some cleaning done. LOL

Hope all of the dads have a great Father's Day!

@TMudong So sorry to hear of your daughters illness. She sounds like quite a trooper though! Sending you nothing but good thoughts.. I was a blue baby when I was born in 1962 so my own blood was fighting within me. Had to have a complete blood transfusion. Was in the hospital for months. I used to have a picture of my "first momma" a nurse that took care of me, because I was so sick. I remember her, but the photo has long since gotten lost. So my gift of life is small compared to the medical establishment giving me the gift of life. Kind of a full circle that I do every 8 or so weeks.

    Good morning all,

@pmary665 - Don't know much about achilles problems but I know when my pf is acting up I have to be dilligent about not walking barefoot and keeping up with the icing. I am sure it is painful. I know walking is difficult but there are tons of "chair" workouts on Youtube. Maybe try some of that to get in your exercise without provoking your achilles.

@TMudong - Welcome, post often so we get to know you. Many of us on this thread are dealing with health problems or loved ones with them. Keep us posted.

@Annr - Thank you for the blood donations. My brother was in a motorcycle accident in his younger days and had 49 units tranfused in 3 days. He is O- they used all the available units in the entire state that weekend. I now donate when I can. I have the same blood type so I can donate to anyone but can only recieve blood from someone with the exact same blood type.

@skinnyjeanzbound - Hope all goes smoothly with your shoulder.

@ushkii - Your garden sounds wonderful. Post a pic so we can have a "visit".

@kkfindsfit - Welcome, if you ask questions we will respond. Hope to see you back soon.

@Lauriek70 - Good luck on your meet.

Hi, my name is Lori. Been on mfp for just over a year. Down 117 pounds now. It is never easy but it is worth it.

Struggling with food this weekend. Stress eating. I tend to be a glass 1/2 empty person by nature.
    Good things in my life:
Business is good - bank account is healthy
Oldest son is in AODA rehab and getting help with his demons
Youngest son is now cleaning the house for gas money. Does not do the best job but it is better than nothing and I am glad to pay him for this rather than just hand him money.
Hubby is so very frustrating but he made some very valid points last night during our "discussion" I will not call it a fight because it was quite productive. My style of communicating with them is not great and often I do not get my point accross without difficulties. In other words I yell a lot. Yes I know this and I have been working on it a great deal for the last several years but even if I am not raising my voice they hear it that way because of the yelling I did when they were younger.

As much as I think I am a wonderful person there are so many times I am not. I do not always give people credit when it is due. Case in point my family. They do try but I ususally find fault with their results and while I do not verbalize it, I think it and that causes me to think negatively about them. This is something I will work on.

Today I must get back on track with food or that pound I lost this week will be back in no time. (prob is already) Water is a must. The temp here today is 79 so I plan to do my first 10k run/walk. I left my bike at a friends house the other night as it was getting dark and I did not want to ride home on the county highway after dusk. It is 6.19 miles from my front door to hers. Only trouble is the McDonalds on the way. Those ice cream cones are only 170 calories. But the carbs are high and I sing that little jingle in my head "You've been working hard all day you deserve a break to day at McDonalds".

    Thanks for listening.

    Love to all,
    Lori <3

Hello! I saw this thread and thought I'd jump in.
I started this weight loss journey years ago, but this time when I "re-started" I made the decision it's the last time.

    Good morning everybody.

Annr- I was giving the double red blood cell donation.

    Double Red Cell Donation
    6wb6znltzd04.jpg

In a traditional blood donation, donors give whole blood—which consists of red cells, plasma and platelets. With the automated process called pheresis, donors can give a specific component in greater quantities than can be collected in a whole blood donation.
During a Double Red Cell pheresis donation, whole blood is collected from one arm and goes into a machine called a “cell separator.” The machine separates the components and collects a measured amount of red blood cells into a special bag. Then the other components are mixed with a saline solution and returned to the donor.
Double Red Cell donation, also called a “Power Red” or “2RBC” donation, is available only to donors who meet certain height/weight criteria.(See graphic above.)
Oxygen-rich red blood cells are most often used for surgery or trauma patients. Donors who donate just their red blood cells through pheresis can double the amount of red blood cells donated at one time. There is a 112-day deferral period between Double Red Cell donations, and donors are eligible to give only three Double Red Cell donations per year.
The Double Red Cell donation takes a little bit longer than a whole blood donation – approximately one hour and 15 minutes, including interview and refreshments. There are some special benefits to Double Red Cell donations:
    1. the saline solution leaves you more hydrated after donating
    2. the pheresis process uses a smaller needle
    3. donors aren’t called as often because of the longer deferral period.
Talk to your donor care specialist to see if you meet the criteria to be a Power Red Donor, especially if you have O-positive or O-negative blood. If you find that you do not meet the Double Red Cell requirements but are eligible to donate and would like to try pheresis, you might be able to donate a different component or combination of components instead.

    Happy Father’s Day!

We had a wonderful party, 'practically perfect in every way'. All 7 of our children were there, 13 of 15 grandchildren and our new grandson-in-law. We were missing 1 daughter-in-law. The kids really outdid themselves getting the yard ready, and the weather was perfect. The photographer was great. I'll share pictures when I get them. They put my wedding dress on a dress makers dumb. It was quite a hit.
I'm having no success at all with tracking food and exercise, but this will soon be over.

@Morgori Thanks for the info! I saw the machine there, and it looks similar to the platelet machine. The needle the platelet machine uses is more like a tube, because it draws blood and returns in the same arm. The only scary thing was that the draw sometimes got stuck on a value in your vein, (think of sucking on a straw and it collapses abit). The needle would vibrate and I would freak out. That only happened once, so its not a normal occurance. I will call and look into the pheresis donation for sure !

Hi. This is my 1st time to write on any board. I need to lose about 100lbs. I have used mfp to log calories etc, but I never seem to stay committed for very long (just hit 20 days). I've never used it on my PC, just phone app, so I don't hv friends... Anyway, I am thinking if I get involved in the community part I will feel more accountable and stay

Today is tough, Father's Day is always tough. If you have a father, grandfather, uncle or male role model that you look up to make sure that they know it! Those relationships are so desired by those that don't have them! Hope that everyone starts their week off strong!

@grandmakaye44 - Oh well, mfp does funny things sometimes. Love your profile pic.

@ashmarie1083 - Welcome to the thread. This is a supportive group. Friend me, I post almost every day. And yes having friends does help me hold interest in sticking around.

@wmander1 - Don't know if I've seen you here before. Welcome. I was one who did not have good relationships with the male role models in my life. But thanks for the sentiment.

The run today went better than I expected. I did run the first 5 miles and walked the last 1 plus. Exhausting but I kept a good pace. May not be fast for most but for me it was good.

    Goals for the week:
    Monday - Boot camp class
    Tuesday - Trainer WO
Wednesday - either Total Body class or 20 mile bike
    Thursday - Trainer WO
    Friday - rest
Saturday - Run or bike or both - My 55th birthday, I will have cake
Sunday - Edge the Ledge Mud Run - Ahoy, it is pirate themed!

@lori-- congrats on your run today. That's awesome that you ran the first 5 miles! I am planning on an 8k tomorrow--doubtful that I will run all 5 miles, but as long as I finish in less than an hour, I don't care.

@wmander1 -- I am fortunate to have a wonderful father, and also had some really great uncles growing up. Several have passed away, and I always miss them dearly on Father's Day. Two of them passed away when I was young, and I regret that I never told them how special they were to me.

I forgot to post my Sunday Share:
For the new folks, I'm karen--45 y/o, married with one fur-kid, my 9 1/2 y/o Boxer/Shepherd mix named gunner. I teach HS English Lit to 11th and 12th graders, so right now, I'm off for the summer.

Spent Father's Day at my sister's with the family. It was a lot of fun, but I swear my niece thinks I'm a jungle gym! She loves to flip, so just grabs both my hands and climbs up my legs with her feet until she can do a back flip. Then she devised this game where she would roll on a beach ball to where I was sitting, fly into my lap, and when I caught her she would flip backwards. It was hilarious, and also quite the workout.

We're in for more rain this week, so I'm going to try to get some more yard work done early in the day tomorrow--storms are scheduled for the afternoon (I hope they realize that). Then I can go to the gym in the afternoon.

I start what my ortho termed "aggressive PT" on Tuesday.

    June Challenge:

The swim meet went well yesterday. I basically did better than my previous meets based on the time conversions from yards to meters. It was interesting swimming meters since that extra couple of yards does make a difference, it is a few extra strokes. By the end of the meet while swimming the 400 Free, my arms were getting tired. I swam the event prior to this which was a relay where I swam the back stroke. Overall, I was pleased with my times.

Karen- the storms were bad last night in my area as well. There were several tornado warnings last night but luckily, none of them hit the area. That was a great use of time while making Gunner feel safe during the storms.

Kaye the party sounds great, looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Welcome to all the new people stopping by this weekend. We hope you will come back often and get to know us. This is a journey that has many twists and turns, on this thread you will find plenty of people to support you and answer questions if you ask.

I started this process this week 5 years ago, when I turned 40 and school ended for the year. During this time I have learned a lot, made some mistakes but the progress has been huge. Not just in the pounds lost but in my ability to do a variety of activities. I have gone from a sedentary life style to being more active. During the past years I have learned to rock climb, kayak and run, improved my skills in biking and swimming and have completed a sprint triathlon and several 5 K runs. The pounds lost is about 67-70 pounds and I have managed to keep it off.
Now, I need to focus on the future and what I want to accomplish.

My first goal is to lose 10 more pounds and to get into the 180's instead of hovering in the 190's. I will do this my eating a smaller dinner but a larger breakfast. I will also reduce the amount and types of carbs that I am eating. I will also eat the carbs in the morning and try to avoid them at night. I will exercise like I am training for a major event most likely a triathlon. This will help me to focus my exercises and weight training routines. To accomplish this I am planning on swimming at least 2x's a week, run 2x's a week and bike at least 1x but will try for more. Strength training will also become a part of the routine at least 2x's a week not including the rock climbing. The goal with biking is to learn how to use the gears on my bike correctly. By the start of the school year, I want to be in the 180's. That is about a 7 pound lost. This is doable if I put my mind to it. I am seriously considering doing a sprint triathlon in October.

Happy Summer Solstice, enjoy all the hours of daylight today.

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's today.

Hello everyone, hope your week went by well with you meeting any goals you set. I've been reading through every day to keep up but have been limiting my time on the computer so haven't made comments.

Today at my house the water department will be shutting off our water supply for the day to do some water line work on my street. So I think it'll be a good day to go visiting friends for part of the day.

    Monday Check-in
My weight stayed the same this week as it was last check-in. I've been over on calaries for some of the days this week, but there were enough that I was at goal ... which is a 20% cut from my TDEE ... so I stayed the same even with the higher calorie days. So I think I'm slowly getting back on the wagon.

This week's goal is to come in at the target goals 2 more days than I did last week.

Have a good first week of summer folks.
    AFM ... I'm working on that 'follow-through'

Monday Check-In…well it was a tough week between not being home Sunday – Wednesday for VBS. Had two cakes due. Family in town for my sister’s baby shower. Father’s Day BBQ. I really tried to be good and while I wasn’t successful every day, I didn’t gain (didn’t lose either, but…).

@ Karen…ugh, that darn shoulder! Your niece makes me laugh. My 3 year old nephew right now is infatuated with trains. We have a Lionel O at our house that he will stare at for hours if we let him. He walks around with at least one toy train in his hand always. He loves my husband because he can always “fix” the train when it derails.
@Laurie...congrats on the end of the school year. Your swimming is going so good, glad you got involved with that team. Sounds like you have a good solid plan for the summer – go get it girl!!
    @Kaye…sounds like a wonderful day…congratulations again!

AFM…We’ve had some pretty big storms come through. On Friday night, we got 1.5 inches in a couple hours so we had some flash flooding in some low spots (a car was floating in an underpass). But the worst part was the wind blowing at 85-100 MPH gusts. It knocked out electricity for about 10,000 folks. Our lights flickered but ultimately stayed on, but we were without internet and TV from around 8PM on Friday night to 9AM Sunday morning – devastation to my teenager!! But we didn’t get the worst of it – before it hit the ND border, apparently it dropped hail that was as big of a softball in SD.

Last night we had another round. We got 1.5 inches of rain, but the worst part was that 1 inch fell in 10 minutes according to the weather stations.

My week is much calmer this week and I WILL be hitting the gym.

    Monday: Cardio
    Tuesday: Lift
    Wednesday: Cardio
    Thursday: Lift
    Friday: Rest
Saturday/Sunday: Trip to Minneapolis…my goal is to get lots of steps in.

    To Do List
    • Emma to the orthodontist
    • Clean kitchen (deep)
    • Clean dining room (maybe find the top of it so we can eat there again)
    • Sweep and mop the floors

Between storms we were able to get a baby shower in. This is one of my sisters (my normal workout partner) and my belly bump cake. 6eh38v0aet8y.jpg

If anyone knows how to size this, go ahead and make it smaller or let me know how to do it
