While I agree with the information, did you really believe all that stuff, or are you just choosing some common diet myths? If you really did previously believe it all, what changed for you?

@Need2Exerc1se That's a fair question. Yes I did believe all those things, though not always all at the same time.

Over the years I tried a lot of things: working with a trainer, a few different diets (South Beach, 40 Hour Body, and others). I'd have a little success, buy into the truthy claims, and ultimately fail. I couldn't sustain them. I began to buy into the defeatist once-fat always-fat mentality, feeling powerless to change it.

What changed for me was going on a plan a couple years ago that was mostly based around portion control, logging (offline) and periodic metric tracking. There was a little supplement nonsense, but overall it worked well. I discovered MFP while doing that plan, started logging my meals from the plan and realized that it was all due to the deficit they had me eating at. Everything else was just window dressing.

So having gained some of the weight back since then, I came back on MFP to get back on track. And in under 2 months I'm almost halfway back down to where I left off before. Not having to do anything else special. That empowerment alone is a wonderful feeling to me.

    Well done, sir! <3

Add in something about cleanses being bogus and you've got the holy grail. :)

But THE TOXINS....how am I supposed to get rid of the evil toxins that are making me fat???? ;)

Have you tried frozen mint peas? Eat them frozen.

Doubt it will help with toxins but they taste good.

Like skittles or mms but cold, minty and count as a vegetable.

Watching a movie? Have a cup of frozen mint peas instead of popcorn.

Been in a fight? Have a cup of frozen mint peas and place the bag on your face.

Having a snow ball fight? Freeze/defrost/freeze the bag of peas to create a large frozen mint pea ball to throw at kids. Double damage bonus! Peas being a kids weakness.

Have a dog that needs to lose weight? They make an amazing treat.

No kidding, my dog loved them so much that you couldn't open the freezer without having her dance all over your feet.

I assume any supermarket in the frozen vegetable area. Unless frozen mint peas are an Australian thing.

I hope this is not another fairy bread thing, wherein we discover that those in other countries are deprived of life's great joys.

Yeah it kind of puts things into perspective. How lucky we are.

Australia must be one of the best countries in the world just for the simple fact we have fairy bread.

    Good post

how about you add..../ Muscle weighs more than fat.....(No, 1lb of Fat is the same of 1lb of muscle)

I've never understood this. Yes I understand density. However making a blank statement that 1kg of muscle weighs the same as 1kg of fat and therefore fat and muscle weigh the same is ridiculous. It creates the impression that everything weights the same. A kilo of feathers and a kilo of lead does weigh the same because both weigh 1 kilo, however, the volume of feathers needed to make up that kilo is FAR more than the volume of lead needed.

One cubic cm of muscle does NOT weigh the same as 1 cubic cm of fat. Therefore if one compares volume and not merely 1kg with 1kg then muscle and fat do not in fact weigh the same.

But every single animal in your country can kill you. Everything. If it flys, crawls, swims or walks it will probably be able to kill you.

I love the country though :)

I am grateful that Vegemite only exists in The Antipodes because seriously folks .. marmite rulez

(PS packs of minted peas make the best soup - just add onion, garlic and good stock and some seasoning and strain it - dinner party stylee)

And yet America has rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bears...at least our deadly creatures are less aggressive and more easily avoided! ;)

Though I do recall rollerblading up my street and seeing a six foot brown snake in the gutter when I was young. It didn't even look at me.
