You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn—period. I eat all the carbs.0 -

Editor its not a matter of "period". If you eat a lot of refined carbs, you'll find yourself eating too many calories. And also the thyroid is responsible for metabolism. If her thyroid is not working properly, her metabolism could be slow. But still 1200 is pretty low and i'm surprised you are not losing weight if you are indeed eating 1200.

Im eating 4 egg whites, wheat bread and a piece of cheese for breakfast, shredded chicken with a tsp of bbq sauce on wheat bread and dinner I eat whatever. Usually a meat, veggies and potatoes. Inless we get a pizza.0

Hypo and hyper thyroid symptoms don't fit easily in a box. I had a mix of symptoms with my initial diagnosis (Grave's Disease - so hyper). Some people with hyperthyroidism gain weight. It's not unusual. Just work on following your doctor's regiment until you figure out what works to get things regulated.
Keep logging your food and exercising. It can tougher for us thyroid disease sufferers, but it still works.0 -
Im not giving up this time. When I did I went into a depression. I dont like the way I look.0

So, vit D deficiencies are often caused by being overweight. I also have one that comes and goes. I *highly* recommend you go on the meds your doctor suggested (if you're enlarged, it's probably propylthiouracil or methimazole). And you'll likely be put on a prescription level of Vit D for a month or two, and they'll recommend you supplement with storebought vit D as well.
I'm basically just commenting to let you know that I have gone through all of this too, and you can and WILL make it through the other side. Get back to logging and focusing on eating at your deficit while following doctors advice!

What are healthy carbs? Definitions can vary from person to person.
No, it's accurate that losing weight just requires a calorie deficit. What type of foods you choose is individual.
She is not eating 1200 or she would be losing weight.
Kristen, you said yourself your logging is spotty and you are having trouble sticking to eating at a deficit. Get that under control and eat at a deficit and you will start losing again.0 -
@SLLRunner Ive heard to eat what the heck I want. Just make sure I eat my 1200 calories and try to exercise everyday and ill lose weight. So thats what ive been doing.0

My thyroid issues have been improved and I still have to eat at 1200 (1147 last month) in order to lose weight very, very slowly. I eat less than the math says I should and still lose less than the math says I should.
Before it was fixed, I could not lose.

It's still CICO for all people because it's science, but with medical issues it takes more work to find that number. You have reiterated that fact with your second paragraph.0 -

Right. You want nutrional balance for energy, CICO for weight loss. By the same token, you do need to see a specialist for your enlarged thyroid.
I love exercise and move each day, but it is not a requirement of weight loss, it's just an added plus.

What I said was that not everyone will lose weight by eating 1200 calories, even if they're fat. People whose bodies don't work correctly might not. That calorie thing and all math assume a body that works correctly.
I spent many years being told it was me - my fault. It wasn't, but the doctor and dietitian didn't believe me and accused me of lying in the log I kept. "If this is accurate, then you should be losing weight." They never took it a step further and said, "So why isn't she?" but assumed it was inaccurate because I lied. If I said I couldn't exercise anymore because I ran out of breath, they he suggested more exercise. Never even thought, "Why is she running out of breath?" When I got good doctors, everything changed, but I spent many years knowing it wasn't me and still wondering if it was...while I packed on the pounds. It was many, many years and it was horrible.
The first thing the surgeon said to me when he came to see me after the surgery: "I believe you had trouble breathing!"
Making assumptions about people and their health without doing the correct tests can harm them as well as make them question themselves and be unhappy.
So, I always point it out. It's kind of a big thing for me because I lived it.

Um.....I will speak to CICO because it is the issue whether you have thyroid problems or not. What you describe is an uncommon situation, with the number one reason for not losing weight being that a person is eating more than they realize. The OP has already said she's been lax on keeping track of food.0 -

Some people still can't lose weight when eating 1200 calories.

Yes, like a thyroid condition the OP has described, which is why I point it out. Not attacking CICO or trying to start a fight.0 -

Would a enlarged thyroid make it hard to lose weight? Why am I having all the symptoms of hypothyroid.
I'm going to try to answer what I can here, without a CBP, comprehensive Hx, etc. Your T4 is higher than normal by 3.3 µg/dl by the most up to date protocols - and that is a concern. Unless you are on contraceptives or anything containing dextrothyroxine - I'd see an Endocrinologist.

I am on the paragard. I got off the depo shot because it was causing me to be hungry all the time. I was on the pills before the depo shot but stopped taking them because I felt like killing people.0

Higher than normal T4 most likely due to the IUD frankly. See Endo, but see an OB/GYN about it as well.

Different people have different reactions to synthroid, hair loss and mood swings aren't a given when you take them. They may have been "crazy" for you but they aren't for everyone.0
