I am aiming for 50 miles this month0

This morning I woke up nice and early before my fiance to run. Had plans to run, he was to going to work on the car and I would help him bleed the breaks when I got back and we could go have a nice lunch before he left for work. Unfortunately I got up. Got dressed and realized I had no shoes. . I almost flipped my ish. One of the few reasons I pushed to get up to his house last night was to get up early today and run hills. Super cranky Jo was super cranky. Eventually after falling back asleep and ruining out plans for the day we went to the store and he gave me some cash and said go to Payless and buy shoes. This pained me tremendously. So I dug through my bag, and came up with what was left of my cash... Gives me 60 cash total. . It's rent pay check which means I'm *kitten* out of money, nothing for run spending so with my heart and cash in hand I found a local running store and rode over.
I threw myself so the mercy of the store owners and told them I really could probably only do 75 and I had sixty cash, what could they do of anything. Russ was one of the owners was super helpful, and pretty much said don't worry well get you fixed up. And I walked out with a brand new pair of Saucony for 60 even. Brand new I think they retailed over 100 and were on sale for 99. I was so grateful I almost cried!
I have mixed feelings about the shoe, but it's nice to have them, and was super grateful for the help they gave me. . I rode my sv for about two hrs, came home, recharged the phone and headed out!
Little slower today, I was looking for anything that went UP. I live in a very flat area and my race isn't. So this was super important! . Slow, but pretty tolerable!
Then I took puppy for a post run walk, he's yo old and arthritic to run, but a quick cool down walk was perfect!
So.
8.1.15.... 5.41 M... 52:30.
Of 75 miles for me. Happy Jo is happy!0 -

@5beautifuldays - great time on your race, awesome congrats
@jorocka - ah what a day you had, glad it all worked out and you got your run in and new kicks to boot. I had a doggie that looked just like that, shephard mix.
I'll have to slowly up my mileage and see if I can reach 200 for my 60th birthday ha ha!!0 -
8/1 - 3 miles
Total: 3 miles
Goal: 140 miles
Remaining: 137 miles0 -
Hi everyone, good luck on your running goals!
I'm new to running so my goal is 40 miles this month.

1- 8.35 miles. walk
8.35/70+
My HM training plan calls for a once a week easy walk. I usually make it a run but hubby is still having hip pain, so a hilly walk it was. I think I have him convinced to see a specialist since he's hurt since March.
@JoRocka love the story! Love that there are people out there that a still human enough to help! Awesome way to start the month!0 -
8/1 4.75 miles out of 40 miles goal for the month.0

4/100km done. Would have been more but it is so hot here. I am a Autumn/Spring kind of girl.0

Goal is 45 miles for August.
Completed 4 today: a half mile jog on treadmill >>some knee stretches>>another half mile jog>> then 18 mins of 1:2 HIIT on elliptical >> ended with 10 min light cycle.
Took a late night jog through town and knee start aching a little at the halfway point so I walked from there. I think by doing that I will be able to get in a few miles tomorrow.
Welcome to the new folks
and to y'all veterans "I am in awe of you guys" thanks for setting the bar.0 -
I'm in! I am just getting back to running after 2 yes so I'm in for 40 miles.
Aug 1- 3 miles.

@skippygirlsmom - I won't make 200 miles in a month before I am 60. It is only a few months away no matter how much I keep trying to ignore it!
I left later than planned and was pretty sure I would only be able to get in a mile or two because of the heat but even though it was warm it did not feel all that humid - around 70% when I went out and down to nearly 50% when I got home. Best part was the sweet breeze in my face coming home! 2nd best part was jumping in the pool in my running clothes!
So I got in a decent longish run today and have my scheduled rest day tomorrow. Also I realized tonight that I totally messed up spraying the sunscreen on my shoulders/back so now I have a very interesting sunburn.

@JoRocka : What a saga! Glad you got the run in though. As a Saucony die-hard, I gotta ask: model is that? Love love love the colors!0

Changing my goal. I work a lot of hours but at least it is on my feet. I was going to try to run 200 miles. Now I am shooting for 300 miles total including my walking. Would like to run at least 100 still.
After day 1:
Ran 4 miles
Walked 10.5
Total 14.50 -
@JoRocka Very happy you were so blessed with those Saucony's! Runners understand runners. So awfully nice of that Local Run Shop! Gotta let all your running friends nearby know of their business for sure.
@WhatMeRunning I'm joining your fan club! You're hysterical. Totally agree with @mwyvr - you're fierce ogre reminds us that Steady Wins. Nice park to run in and 10 miles is a fantastic run on any trail!
7miles today for me and my Mickey Girl (super running dog). Praise God---- I ran an overall 11 min mile, with the last 3 miles being 10 min miles!!!

8/1: 5 miles
8/2: 11.5 miles -- Meant to do 10, but what's a bit extra when you're running with friends? Starting cutback week with... accidental extra mileage. Oops.

I am in for another 100. Long run today before it got too hot!

Hello, I walked 7km yesterday and today another 6km of running and 4km of walking is done

Aug 1 - 43 mile bike ride
Aug 2 - 37 mile bike ride
I don't like it when the first is on a Saturday since I don't run on the weekends! I feel like I'm starting off behind.
Tomorrow is first day back for teachers. Back to my 4:30 am runs. At least it shouldn't be too hot! However, my long run, on Wednesday will have to be in the afternoon/evening - because I can't get up at 3:30 am! I'm crazy... but not that crazy! Going to work a rest day into the week -- Friday. I am probably going a little crazy on Mon-Thur to get all my workouts in.
@JoRocka - What a nice running store! I have Sauconys and Brooks and I am finding I like the Sauconys much better. I have the Triumphs.
@WhatMeRunning - Love the Ogre!
@JimCrackinDandy - awesome times! You are doing great!

8/2 - 10
26.5/200 goal
@JoRocka - wow such a great, uplifting story
@skippygirlsmom - fitting in all the miles will be tough but necessary for training. Lots of very early mornings! I work full time and have 2 young kids (2.5 and 5.5 years old). I aim to get back from my runs either before they wake or close afterwards. I was back from my 10 miler by 8am today in order for my husband to be in the pool by 8:30. Lots of coffee drinking!0 -
I'm in again! I think this month I'll be brave and increase my "usual" (for vacationless months) 100km by ten percent - so 111 km will be my goal.
@Stoshew71 Thanks for setting up this challenge every month!
@JoRockaP Wow, that was so nice of the running store guy to find you some shoes for your money. Just out of curiousity, which Saucony did you get? I was sad when I had to (mostly) retire my "ProGrid Paramount 2" shoes, and replaced them with the Saucony Guide 7 for my long runs. Went nearly 300km with them until now, and for me, they are a good fit.
@leanlicorice Welcome to this challenge.
@shanaber Non-too-hot weather and a pool at the end of the run, that sounds lovely!
@ddmom0811 I'm a little jealous of the cool temperatures that will give you, but getting up at 4:30, that is tough. Great dedication on your side, not sure I could drag myself out of bed that early every morning.0 -
This morning I did a 30 minute run followed by walking home. During the warmup-run-cooldown part, I went about 3.1 miles, at a 12 minute mile pace. It was a bit slower than usual, due to . . .
Shin splints! Ugh. At least, I guess that's what's going on. When I first started jogging last winter, I got a tightness in the front of my shins which I thought was muscular/being out of shape. At the time, I just took walk breaks whenever I felt it. It never happened during C25K. Since last week (when I added one 20 minute run to my week), I've been getting it while warming up, and then it would go away.
I guess my fears of overtraining were not so far fetched. I'm trying to figure out the culprit, and what to do to recover. There are too many factors to be sure what's to blame. I added a run day last week. I walk a lot (a LOT). I've been doing Jillian Michaels videos 4-5 days per week, and they are pretty high impact. My doctor took my orthotics to have them recovered a month ago (but gave me her blessing to jog while waiting to get them back). And I'm in the city, so there's tons of concrete and asphalt, and a real dearth of soft trails and grass.
Any advice on how I can deal with this before it gets to be a major problem? Today is the first day I've had a bit of residual shin achy-ness after my jog, so it's definitely time to nip this in the bud.
I guess I won't get a ticker until I decide what to do in terms of running this month.0 -

8-1: 2.5 mi
8-2: 2.62 mi

Great start to the month everyone!
@JoRocka - Congrats on the shoes! I hear there may be doggie pics but I'm not seeing them on my phone. :-(
@CancerSurvivor2014 - Good call listening to your body and walking. Hope that knee is OK!
@shanaber - Those breezes on humid days are such a relief. Hope your sunburn is not too bad.
@ddmom0811 - That seems like a good way to make sure you're not going crazy by the time you are willing to wake up. 4:30 is die-hard runner, but 3:30 is crossing that sanity line.
@demoisele2014 - I don't really have any advice for shin splints but definitely hope that gets better! I used to get that when I was younger and took up running. Never knew what caused it then. I've been lucky, I guess, to not get them now. So I definitely hate hearing anyone having to deal with that.
Today was a planned "depleted legs" long run. I guess they were well depleted today by how they felt!
