    How to Burn an Extra 200 Calories a Day

    If you find it hard to lose weight with your busy schedule, the news keeps getting better. First, just 20 minutes of exercise was proven to help increase your metabolism. Now, a study has found that working out intensely for just 2.5 minutes can spur calorie burn throughout the day — an extra 200 calories' worth.

    Here are ideas on intense exercises you can do anywhere for 2.5 minutes so you too can reap the after burn benefits. Perform these at maximum intensity; you can break them into 30-second or one-minute intervals to make it more manageable. Stick with one, or choose five to do for 30 seconds each!

    * Jumping Jacks
    * Running up & down stairs
    * Burpees
    * Walking lunges
    * High knees
    * Lateral hops
    * Jump squats

    Don't stop at just 2.5 minutes, though. Besides upping your total calorie burn, longer exercise helps you stay healthy and prevent disease. Aim for at least 150 minutes a week and stay consistent. PS

    Good morning Everyone
    This week for me so far has been challenging to say the least. Work and family obligations has kept me a way from the gym. I have done ok on food but retaining a lot of fluid. My hands and feet have been swollen every day and I feel sluggish. I miss exercising, I did get in a 2.5 mile walk this morning and hope I can do it again tonight. I have not gained, but have not lost either. So I am working on getting back on track with exercise and increasing my water intake. I don't understand why I am having such a hard time losing, Well I will figure it out. B)

    I'm hoping I'm suffering water retention, although the way this week has started off I'm expecting a total disaster next week! Need to focus on exercise and being more sensible eating out and at buffets

    Losing Weight

    Set realistic goals. Start slowly with a goal of reducing body weight by 10 percent over 6 months (a reduction of 500 to 1000 calories per day amounts to approximately 1 to 2 pounds per week).

    Make time to exercise. Physical activity should be part of a comprehensive weight loss therapy and weight control program because it contributes to weight loss and reduction of abdominal fat. Exercise can also help you maintain any weight you’ve already lost.EH

    Was 213.5 two days ago, but that's because I was really sick and in the hospital. Can't really do anything about it except keep going and suck it up that I lost a week of exercise.

    That was not my best week. I was at the gym, was careful with my eating (in the beginning) and then my weight jumped up and wouldn't go down anymore. Felt bloated and bleh! Made me frustrated. Don't get enough sleep these days as well. Went for a hike on Saturday and finally the weight moved down a bit, and I bit more since yesterday. I hope that's the direction to go. No time for gym till Friday and have to travel for work where I can't make food choices. All in all not great and I hope for a change!

    Good Morning All
    Congrats to all with a loss and keep going, you will reach your goals.
    To those who had a gain or no weight loss, be sure you are journaling your food, water & exercise. This way you can look back and see what you need to change. Be patient and set small goals and expect big changes.

    Have a Good Week

    Goal for next week is 0. I would rather stay where I am at than gain this week. This upcoming weekend is our county fair. I will put a lot of miles on walking but it won't be enough to counter balance the food I will be eating. We live in the heart of agriculture and so there will be steak sandwiches, fresh French fries, and pork chops on sticks. Wish me luck. :wink:

    Weight loss this week: 1.5lb, with a total weight loss for 6 weeks of 7lb. Big week for me - I'm now out of the Obese BMI category. I've still got a way to go, but hitting this target feels so good! Also, I stuck to my plan, and didn't eat back very many of my exercise calories, and that seems to have made a difference. I banked close to 1500 calories doing that.

    Weekends are proving the sticking point, where I just don't have any time to pre-log my meals, and I'm having lots of family meals with lovely desserts. This weekend, despite not counting in the way I usually do, I somehow hit my 180lb target with a day to spare! Mind you, yesterday, I made the family dinner - roast chicken, salad (no dressing) and steamed baby new potatoes, followed by summer pudding. My summer pudding was pretty low cal, when you add it up - given it served 5 adults and 2 children, and there's still a bit leftover - I worked out it was 200 cals per portion, with 30 cals per tablespoon of cream! It may have been made with brioche bread, but there was very little sugar added to the fruit, and the only indulgence was the single cream on the side, and I had only the tiniest amount. Under 500 cals for the whole evening meal!

    So, more of the same for next week, I think. I'm sticking with a 1.5lb goal. Good luck to me - and everyone else!
