I've been lurking on this board for awhile now but haven't posted. I've been trying to lose weight before summer vacation in 3 weeks. The easiest way for me to cut calories is to reduce my wine consumption. I love my wine at night. In fact it is practically part of my cooking routine. Cook, drink, eat, drink, relax, drink a bit more. So I am posting here in an attempt to fell more motivation to cut back nightly wine tasting. Congrats to all those who are posting 0's!

Welcome newbies and YAY for the June thread!
I've got about 2 1/2 weeks before my vacay and I'm going to *try* to abstain from alcohol. At the very least keep away from it during the week. I've definitely hit a plateau and I would like to drop at least 5 more lbs before we leave.
But I guess I'll start tonight cuz last night I had 2 glasses of wine. :ohwell:

It's June yay, which means I've officially survived my no alcohol May. Which I did stick to apart from deciding to allow myself 1 cheat night when I had 3 beers. Have decided to wait until Friday night before I indulge though, if I can survive my daughter being suspended from school and being diagnosed as dyslexic without alcohol I can survive a bit longer. Although today has been a cracker as I was called out of work as my mum had a fall whilst out with my daughter and was brought into the hospital where I work by ambulance. Very scary waiting for the ambulance to arrive as I was thinking the worst as I had spoken to my daughter on her mobile and she was really upset and worried and made it sound worse than it turned out to be. Luckily my mum is back home with no lasting damage apart from some stitches in her lip.

Yvonne you've had an amazing month...congrats to you!!
You're definitely stronger than I could have been. Teenage daughters are enough to drive anyone to drink.
    Glad your mom is ok.
    Well done!!

Wow, lots of new lushes this month! Speaking of teenage daughters... Have you guys heard that country song, I think its by Martina McBride? Love that song... it so perfectly describes teenage daughters "and if were being honest, then honestly, I think I need a drink". That part always makes me smile:smile:

I too have not had a drink yet this month but I ended May with a bang! I think I had 4 or 5 tall vodka/soda with lime last night and a shot of whiskey to wash 'em down:drinker: I wonder how far I can make it into June without a drink:tongue:

I'm almost down to the 150's so I'm gonna try real hard to abstain to make it there by next week... wish me luck:wink:

    Hey everyone

I've got a date night with my hubby tomorrow night, it will no doubt involve a drink or 8 as we're going to see a band, after that's over with I'm going to aim for no drinks for the rest of the month. I've drank every weekend this year and feel it definitely contributes to me weight plateuing. There's no way I'll manage but if I try I might manage to have a bit less than usual ;)

Just noticed my profile pic - lush indeed ;)

Not too bad. I read a lot of people imbibe on the wkends. I usually imbibe during the wk. Which is stupid b/c my exercise classes are during the wk also. Brother.

For those who have not imbibed in a while, I'm very impressed & motivated. Unfortunately by beverage of choice is getting expensive.

    Thanks all.

Wednesday = 4 miller lites :embarassed:

I come home from a great workout at the gym to find my husband prepared this very healthy, great meal for me.... then he hands me a beer and it just goes from there. I'm going to try and grab a glass of water before he can tempt me! Lol! But they were some good beers

I love a beer and I'm grand mon - fri unless I have a work night out on Friday. Come the weekend there is always something on with BBQ's, Football, gigs...so it's inevitable I'm going to have a few pints on Saturday night. I have a heavy weekend this weekend but going to try and watch it as best I can. Then nothing for at least 2 wks so will give up the booze until then.

I'm good at the weekend if I'm not going out, I don't really tend to drink in the house unless friends are over.
  • Love this thread! I am a weekend Lush, really just a Saturday lush, but I drink a lot that day! I mostly drink beer which by the end of the night I have drank a days worth of calories. Any ideas on low cal no sugary drinks?

  • WELLLLLL.... June not looking so good for me, so far. But today is a new day!!

    Mon - 0
    Tues - 4.5 (Miller Lites)
    Wed - 6 (Bud Select 55s)

Here is to all of you who can abstain during the week and only indulge on the weekends. I remember those days not too long ago! And soon I'll want to do it again. It's hard to look at those calories when you log them and think "Man! I could have eaten a cheeseburger!" :noway:

Good job Kim with your casino victory! I don't drink too much at the casino though either cause they are so damn expensive!

Marti, I'm so with ya on the cheeseburger thing. It's amazing to me when I see how many calories I have left on days I don't drink!

I'm still at 0 for this week but this guys that might be buying the bar that I manage is having a birthday party tonight and invited me and my husband to go. I don't really want to go but I don't want him to buy the bar and be butt-hurt that I blew off his birthday and fire me. He had a party last week for his girlfriends birthday and I guess it was absolutely insaine so I have a feeling even if I show up i'll end up helping my bartender instead of drinking.

I too am on a roll....

    Tuesday = 0
    Wednesday = 0

Tonight is a hard one though, a Sine Die (end of Legislative Session) party for work and then a kickball game (really an excuse to drink). My goal is zero. In reality though I know I will probably have one drink...but just one would still be a victory!

So happy to have found this thread. Esp now that the weather is getting nicer and the sun stays out a bit longer it is nice to sit outside with a glass of wine or cold beer.

    I think in general, yes.
But I *rarely* go over my alloted calories. If I drink, I log those calories. I've hit a plateau. I'm thinking it might be the alcohol. I exercise 6 days a week. The alcohol is the only thing I can think of at this point that is keeping that scale where it is. Very frustrating. :grumble:

I really think a calorie is a calorie....although alcohol does burn differently than other foods. The body (I'm pretty sure) burns alcohol first, therefore if you have a drink with a meal, the alcohol will burn first leaving the food to digest at a slower rate. So, unless I am out to dinner, I usually eat before I start drinking.
I just account for all my booze calories and fit them in where I can....don't get me wrong I have my days where I just don't give a crap BUT for the most part I think you will be successful :)

IF I can drink and still stay within my allowed calories, I'm fine and can lose weight. But MY problems is I drink, then get the munchies and eat, then forget what I ate - or just don't care!

Oh, I hear ya, I've done that too!!! Usually the next day if I really overindulge. (can you say cheeeeseburger?)
But I'm talking about having a glass of wine or 2 at night. Usually while i cook or with dinner. I always log that in and stay within my calories..and I'm not seeing the pounds come off lately.
I'm going to lay off the alcohol for a while, see if it makes a difference.

For those looking for a low-cal substitute for what can be a pretty high-cal cocktail (and an awesome summer drink if you're in an area like me where it's already approaching 100 degrees each day), try a Skinny Girl Margarita.

You can actually buy them prepackaged in some places (just Google Skinnygirl for a list of retailers), or you can make a decent one yourself with a shot of tequila, club soda, and lime juice to taste. Very light and refreshing for about 100 calories.
