Sober September

Way to go everyone I'm on day 3 AGAIN!! I've been doing this for a few weeks now and it's getting easier to go three days. I'm still struggling with going longer. So far I've not had anything to drink 50% of the month so far. Not 100% but 50% is better than what I was doing.
What is this Whole30 that everyone is talking about?
You're so right! Fifty percent is better than what you were doing!
As for the Whole30? It's an eating program, an elimination diet that helps to determine what foods your body has a hard time processing. In addition it's said to help restart you metabolism (you know, give it a kick start). I for one have dealt with IBS for 33 years and have tried everything. Always felt that certain foods bothered me more than others but couldn't pin point which ones. This eating program has helped me out greatly. Instead of pain and suffering 20 days a month, I've only had 2 and I think I can attribute that to nuts.0 -
Hi everyone. A friend referred me here. I have actually struggled with alcohol recently and thought I'd post here to find support. My biggest problem is drinking in the middle of the week when I still have to go to work early in the morning. I started a detox program about 2 weeks ago and it ended this past Sunday and I learned so much about being myself during this time period and I'm making some changes in my life as it relates to alcohol. I'm sure cutting it out for the most part can make me healthier and crush my workouts even more. Thanks for reading.

Most of us on here seem to have tried moderation and counting drinks. For myself I just suck at moderation. Once I got through my first alcohol free week everything became much easier.
The first week is tough and the first few social events are tough. Once you choose water or soda or whatever over alcohol the stress of counting drinks, worrying about it, and worrying about the calories in the drinks (seldom just one drink) and the subsequent food that gets eaten, disappear.
This is Sober September, not Sober Life. Give it a try for two weeks and see how it can change your life. You can do this!!0 -
Day 48 YOU ALL CAN DO THIS!!! I drank between 1 and 2 bottles of wine nightly for 30+ years. It had to end.0

The whole reason I'm overweight is because I was drinking so much. I'm giving this a try and it's been great waking up with a clear head. And, not feeling like all my other efforts (eating well, working out) are wasted.fiddletime wrote: »Most of us on here seem to have tried moderation and counting drinks. Totally agree! I suck at moderation when it comes to drinking. This month so far has been really good. I haven't faced any social situations yet, though, so I'm a bit scared about that. I am extremely introverted and being around people for any length of time is really hard.
Anyway, day 20 without alcohol for me.

soda makes me feel like garbage. try kombucha or kvass!0

Enjoying some sparkling water this evening, and I hope everyone is psyched to have a great weekend.

Made it through another social event without wine. Was pretty easy this time! 27 days AF so far.0
-
@fiddletime congrats - I know how hard that is!! However, it can be fun to be the sober one in the room and watch everyone else "act a fool" lol
I am frustrated because my weight loss has slowed down. I am going to try to stop the ice cream at night which has crept its way into my life since I went af.... It's always something! haha!0 -
Day 50 AF -- Spent a beautiful day on the beach yesterday. Great weather, nearly 90 degrees. Won't have many more days like that this year so I'm trying to enjoy them while I can. Today is a busy day for me though, loading the barn with hay for the winter! Usually after a long hard day I like to unwind with some wine but not today, sparkling water it is0

Great job! I hope that I can do the same. For now I'm just avoiding everything.

Went out to eat tonight. My son had a beer, I had a diet coke.
@shrcpr. For motivation read the sober weekdays thread. That's where I was a month and a half ago. Before you know it you'll only crave the idea of a drink, and not the drink itself. That's where sparkling water can be useful!0 -
7 days sober, thanks for all the encouragement on post! Taking it a day at a time...here is to day 8. My best wishes to u all0
-
So happy to see you all doing well Let's keep at it!0

Thanks for the tip - I'll check out that thread. Except for the sparkling water - love my diet coke but I think sparkling water is so gross. LOL - I get the idea though - just have something else that I like.
As for me, another weekend under my belt with no drinking. I did have a picnic at the park but it was a no-alcohol allowed park so that helped. So day 24 for me. Feeling pretty good about it although I'm finding I'm bored a lot so I need to find something else to do.

Chugging along... no pun intended! I'm feeling quite good. It was a bit difficult on Friday as I was on an all-office "field trip" and everyone was having booze at lunch but I just had water. I was the only one not falling asleep in the afternoon! That felt pretty good!!0

Still here and still sober Day 530

15 years here without a drink.
The dry life is the only life worth living.
I stopped because I decided to stop permanently and it worked. No meetings, no psycho therapy, I just decided to knock it off once and for all.
I like this thread. I know a few people who initially decided to stop temporarily and they felt so good without the swill they decided to make it permanent.
Here's to hoping you all decide that. Cheers!
Thanks for posting! If only I could find a health reason to continue drinking..... As it is I'm now AF for a month with no reason to have it be temporary and many reasons to have it be permanent. Reasons: feel great in the morning, don't make a fool of myself at social gatherings, and am now able to lose weight pretty easily (but slow and steady).

Just found this. I hope you all continue for October because I would really like to join0
-
I'll be in for sober October! And it rhymes!! I had so much sparkling water last night that I got up 3 times but I still feel better this morning than I would after a few glasses of wine!0
-
NEVER!!!!!!!!0
-
-
Day 27 AF for me. I feel a lot better, especially sleeping better and feeling better when I wake up! Still waffling around about October, which is dumb. If I feel better and it's helping me with the weight loss, why am I waffling around?? (Not really looking for an answer to that!)0
-
Ditto, in for October0
-
In for October as well. Gotta keep the streak alive!!!0

Got through an open bar dinner le you're last night and not only did I not drink the alcohol, I also stopped eating when I was full, leaving rice and most of my desert to be thrown out. Have a whole away weekend starting tomorrow with a bunch of people so this was great preparation for holding the line on both extra food, and wine.0

Last weekend of Sober September. Feeling strong and it's been a good month! 28 days AF for me.fiddletime wrote: »Got through an open bar dinner le you're last night and not only did I not drink the alcohol, I also stopped eating when I was full, leaving rice and most of my desert to be thrown out. @fiddletime I do hope you have an enjoyable weekend. You've come very far and I'm confident that you won't let this weekend gathering spoil all the good you've done for yourself.
I'm doing well. I'll spend a quiet weekend at home with my husband getting some projects done before the weather gets too cold. Loving these Autumn days and nights!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE AND STAY SOBER0 -
Well, I just saw this Sober September posting, wish I had seen on 9/1-- I have been trying to do this on my own and continue to fail. Seems I'll go 2-3 days without any beer, and then breakdown. I started with a plan of "no beer Sunday-Thursday, but seem to fail at that. I only manage to stay on track when I travel for work--go figure.

I had wine last night, darnit! The good news is that I stopped after 2, but I am so disappointed in myself!! I feel so much better without it, but I had a moment of weakness. Anyway, back on it now. I am NEVER going back to drinking the way that I used to. AF is the way for me.0
