    A resting heart rate of 100 or more is called Tachacardia. I had it in May and went to the ER. You should too, can be serious.

    No your not burning extra calories.

    My rhr is mid 40s to mid 50s (age 54). When younger and running a lot it was 41 to 43. I've measured it down to 36 then while relaxing and trying to get it low. I do about 4hr of cardio a week now.

    I have to watch mine doesn't get too low. My dad had a pacemaker put in because his got into the 20s and gave him a mild stroke.

    If my rhr was 100 or even 90, I would be seeing the doctor.

    HR does not determine cals burned. A HRM uses HR to estimate % of max effort to estimate oxygen uptake, so someone that has a higher than normal HR will appear based on the HRM that they are burning many more cals than they really are. HRMs are also only remotely accurate during very narrow range of activities (Steady state cardio), doing anything else will throw off the calculation embedded in the device.

    HRM's are not designed to calculate calories burned, they are designed to give you your Heart Rate in Beats per minute, anything else the device does is an estimate based on specific conditions and a calculated put into the device.

    Or only issued following adequate demonstration of knowledge the circumstances under which they are useful

    1) if you have a heart condition or arrhythmia and need to know your HR
    2) if you do steady state cardio at some intensity for extended periods and want a calorie burn estimate for that

    I would add: for distance athletes trying to train in certain zones to increase athletic performance. (though I think it is easy to achieve without an HRM, it does help others.

    I was very fit yet got a high heart rate (and palpitations) and it got tiring to do yoga, which was odd. My resting one got to 120 once the other symptoms had been around for a little while. I didn't do anything wrong, but I have to take beta blockers. They fixed it right up (with the rare flare-up of palpitations). So do check with your doctor and get the basic tests runs. I just had to wear a monitor for a few days. No big deal, and the meds are no big deal. Good luck!

    OP, you clearly want to believe you are a mad calorie burning machine, so have a go, start eating 6000 calories a day and see how it works out for you.

    People have explained over and over that your heart beating fast doesn't = high calorie burns. In cardio exercise, the same movement that causes the high heart rate also burns the higher calories. The high heart rate and calorie burns are each a result of the exercise, one does not cause the other.

    HR is not an accurate guide to calories burned during exercise - especially in the unfit. It is completely meaningless for resting HR.

    The other evening I was using a sophisticated cycle trainer working about 140bpm and producing about 200 watts of power.
    The guy to the left of me was at about 175bpm and producing about 230 watts. (So far so good for HR = calories...)
    The guy to my right was at about 130bpm and producing about 240 watts. So burning 20% more calories for substantially less heartrate.

    100 as a resting HR is very, very high. Would advise getting checked out.

    I honestly think you're trolling after reading this.

    Because there's nothing I've ever read anywhere indicating that this is a valid use of a heart rate monitor that would lead you to believe this.

    Yeah, using that my sitting around and doing absolutely nothing calorie burn is 212 calories per day. Mmmm ... no.


    Of course it does say, "The calories burning have some association with heart rate. After large amount of research and investigation, the Journal of Sports Sciences developed a formula to count for calories burned during exercises." ... so I actually have to get up and move for it to start to have some degree of accuracy.
