Weight stand still.

So in February I started a vigorous workout regime and lost 55lbs. I'm 5'9 and was at 150lbs by June. I traveled all around the world this summer and enjoyed the many foods from different cultures and gained 30-40lbs! I had a ton of fun but now I'm ready to get back to the shape that was in. I lost my abs, and I've got some serious booty going on. The way I lost the weight before was by running 6+ miles 5-6 days a week and then lifting 2 days. Im back to running 3-4 miles a day and I've lost 10lbs but now my weight is at a stand still. I'm planking, squating, and doing push-ups after my run. My diet is high protein, minimal breads, extremely low sugar, and high fiber. I drink a *kitten* ton of water, I'm taking a pre workout and creatine for muscle repair, and I eat a mission protein bar after my evening workout. 1200 calories per day so I'm definitely creating a deficit. Wtf am I doing wrong? I'm just hoping I'm gaining muscle. I'm staggering between 180-185.

I can't see where you're going wrong tbh, but you do realise creatine causes your muscles to retain water. That could easily account for 5 lbs.
You could have put on muscle as well.
Are you sure you need to lose weight?0 -

It was CRAZY how fast I gained weight. I threw my body out of whack bc I was on a strict workout regime and then completely stopped working out and eating healthy. So in those 3-4 months, I packed on 30lbs like it was nothing. I'm staggering at 180-185 right now, so I actually gained closer to 40lbs! Haha so crazy. I do notice my arms getting toned again, it's just the hips that aren't losing anything so my pants are all fitting the same. I know I can't spot weight loss so maybe it's just going to take time to really lose inches all around.0 -

You sound like you know what you're talking about which is good
Be completely honest just so I've got a clearer picture, during those 4 months, were you binging?

On alcohol, yes. Lol on food not really but what I was eating wasn't healthy most of the time. I'm hypothyroid too and my thyroid Doctor retired so I no longer take medicine for it. Idk how true it is that your thyroid has a direct affect on weight loss/weight gain. But according to thermogenics if you're creating a deficit technically you have to lose weight, thyroid problem or not.0 -

Thyroid issues affect your metabolism so yes, it definitely can impact weight loss/Gain0 -

Both of these are worth the read and will answer your question why you have stalled:

If you are certain that you are eating at a deficit then I doubt your gaining muscle ( aside from newbie gains , it really doesn't work like that )
Are you weighing all your foods with a food scale and logging them here accurately?0 -

No, she ate too much over the summer and put on fat. She's well aware of that.
She's isn't putting on muscle, especially with running. A progressive weight lifting program and eating at maintenance or a surplus will slowly put on muscle, especially for us women.
@luvsubrooke, you are right on that you need a deficit to lose weight. Put simply, you are eating at maintenance.
Diet type and food type have nil to do with weight loss, it's really about that deficit. I'll bet you are underestimating calories in and/or overestimating calories burned, which can kill a deficit.
I see you weigh your food. Do you weigh every single thing you eat, including condiments? I also suggest eating only half of your running calories back. Make certain you stay in a deficit and you will lose that weight. You don't have to eat just 1200 calories, but you first have to make sure your logging is accurate. You being a taller person and heavier, you can lose on much more than that.
Good luck!0 -

I started a kelp supplement some time ago for it. I'm not taking a pill every day for the rest of my life, I'd rather have to work twice as hard! The supplements have balanced me out according to my blood work so I'm thinking the Thyroid isn't the issue.0 -

I really don't think you understand hypothyroidism properly.
There are long-term implications for your health to leaving it untreated. You're putting yourself at the risk of heart disease and depression, for starters.
Yes, having a bad thyroid means needing to take a pill for the rest of your life. Deal with it.0 -

Wtf climbed up your booty today? My thyroid levels were off only by a small percentage. I was on 15mg of thyroid medicine. You do understand that that's an extremely low dosage, correct? My thyroid specialist allowed me to try the kelp supplement with his guidance and watchful eye, testing me every 3 months. If you can use natural remedies to fix a problem, why the f not? Lol you need a ray of sunshine my dear. Thanks for the advice!
You left all that out when you said you were hypothyroid. So when you come to a public forum where nobody knows you and say you have a medical condition, but went off medication for a natural supplement, people are going to question whether or not you know what you're talking about. Also, earlier in this thread you said your thyroid doctor retired but you're under a "thyroid specialist's" care in this post. That's why people ask questions. But if you'd like to get all butthurt about it, well, you'll fit right in on this website.0 -

Totally get that. Lol explaining my entire life story and history of health I didn't think was necessary. But thank you!0 -
Hey I'm 5'8 and weight was 130 in the summer and I drank my way to 156, 153 as of today. It's crippling I have not weighed this much in 8 years(pregnant with my twins)... It's brutal to see where 25 pounds sits & it's all belly and legs for me too.. You look great0

Awh, I think 156 sounds healthy for 5'8. I can't imagine being 130lbs, I'd be bones! Lol I'm closer to 5'10 though. I think as women with fluctuating hormones it's normal for our weight to change throughout our life times, so it's important to not be too hard on ourselves and focus mainly on being happy and healthy rather than "skinny".0 -
I'm a cyclist... I should have disclosed that...
25 pounds of fat is very different than if I would have been carrying it healthy... I don't like how this much weight makes me feel, I've been down to 118 and hated how that felt too...i like 135 enough strength but light enough to cycle.. Everyone is different0 -

This is almost exactly what I was going to say. Sometimes medication is necessary so that your other organs do not become affected/damaged from your medical issue.0 -
Usually when someone seems to be doing everything right like you are, counting calories honestly and working out a ton, then it doesn't add up that your weight loss would be stalled. Maybe you could try going back to the thyroid pills you were taking before and see if your weight loss resumes.

I woke up this morning and was at 179lbs! Woohoo! Super happy about that. I took a rest day yesterday and drank a ton of water. Maybe my body is holding water due to inflamed muscles and my salt intake? I noticed my jeans are a tad looser too. I think I just got a little discouraged that the scale wasn't changing. I chatted with my thyroid doctor today and he said all is well and to continue what I'm doing bc it's working. He's a specialist so he would know.0
