I've never officially bought a pet snake, but as a kid always kept the gopher, red racer (?), and king snakes that we found in the yard. Found a huge (for them, like 3.5') king a couple years ago at our vacation camp spot and caught it. It bit me then pooped on me...lol. It was pretty nifty.0

For those with multiple snakes, how much do you think it costs per year to care for them? What is their lifespan?0

They might live around 20 years, my oldest are around 10 now. Food costs around 40€ per month, so umm... A tad under 500€ per year for food plus electricity, and bedding which costs next to nothing.0 -
im not a huge fan but i think they are cute sometimes
id pet it / put a sweater on it0 -
I updated my profile pic to a pic of all 7 of my snakes. The ratsnake and mbk are my babies. Cost to upkeep them is quite minimal. About $150 on frozen rodents every 4 months or so. Lifespan usually 10+ years depending on species.0

They are gorgeous!
Out of curiosity, why frozen instead of live food? Is it a cost thing, "humane" thing, or just easier to keep more on hand thing?0 -
In all honesty, it was just a convenience thing for me to begin with, but I definitely feel it's more humane as well as safer for the snake. It's most definitely more cost efficient as well.0

They're pretty cool0

Is there really no one else who likes snakes?0

I actually spend my spring/summer/early fall going out finding them in the wild as well. I am counting down until Spring!0

Nice. For some reason I was thinking they wouldn't eat food that wasn't live.
