Working towards a goal....getting below 300

Thanks all for the kind words and suggestions. I go to the doctor in january again but have been keeping him updated on my progress. I am planning to start some weight/resistance training soon. My wife hinted to me that I might be getting a small weight set for Christmas. I know my goals are really still aggressive, once I get under 300 I plan to up things a bit calorie wise and not lose as fast as I am. I guess I just really want to get under 300 which is why I am working so hard. Plus I really really want to get off of my blood pressure medication.
I also do take a couple multivitamin pills in the morning and a small fiber pill as well. Not sure if they help, but yeah.0 -

Please take advice before putting additional strain on your joints ...bodyweight might be adequate to begin with0 -

So just use my own body weight as resistance? That's fine. I can try that as well.0 -

Thanks for the link. Will check it out when I get home from work today.0 -
Congratulations on your success. It's obvious you are really, truly motivated. I too am concerned about a person of your size eating at 1200 calories. Most doctors are not trained in nutrition very much at all. 1200 sounds like a lazy, throwaway number, like "I know the slim - fast diet is that, I'll just recommend it".
My experience was nearly killing myself in such a diet at 19. It gave me chronic health problems that ultimately, coupled with flying back to pre - diet eating habits after a year, led to regaining all the weight and then some over many years.
One year ago I said "enough", like you. Only this time I actually listened to the advice of a nutritionist. I started a calorie goal of 1850 while sedentary, and and which seemed absurdly high to me, but I lost my first 35 lbs that way!
I'm down 65+ lbs now and at a 1650 cal goal. No longer sedentary, I eat back some of my exercise calories, if I'm hungry, with no guilt. I think I'd go stark raving mad if I tried to keep keep at 1250 again. I know these changes I've I've made I've made this I've made this time are are sustainable and healthy.
Best wishes to you. I'm really glad you're taking change of your life this way, I but please be careful. Even severely overweight you can become malnourished and damage your body in in lasting ways far worse than chronic obesity.0 -
You are doing great.0

12/21/2015 -- 309.9
This past week was a bit challenging. We had our work christmas party, company pot luck, and my wifes birthday. So I ate more than I Normally would. Plus ate out over the weekend. I still lost 4lbs. I did do some extra workouts though to try and counterbalance. This week will be better.
For all of those worried about my low calorie count. I did speak to my doctor and he recommended with the exercise im doing to go up to 1600 calories. So I am going to do that this week. He also ordered a full round of bloodwork to check all of my functions etc, and I will hopefully be getting that next week after the holidays are over.1 -

4lbs is still double the rate you should be losing at ...eating out and partying is great, it is ok to do this on a diet because this is your life
And excellent news on doctor ... Continue to increase your calories until you're at 3lbs a week weight loss on average over 6-8 weeks ...that is 1% your BW and under the threshold where kidney / gallstone issues but is still deemed rapid weight loss ...2lb is considered healthy

305.7 as of this morning.
Had bloodwork done at the doctors.. all is good there. My blood pressure is getting close to normal ranges. Only issue I have right now is my blood is too thick. They had to take a pint out of me today, the blood doctor specialist I saw today isn't overly concerned with it, but wants to keep an eye on it. I go back to see my PCP at the end of January.1 -
301.6 as of this morning... sooo close to that 300 mark.3

I just read through this entire thread, and just wanted to say I'm super impressed by your commitment! Your rate of loss is very impressive, and glad to see your bloodwork came out spiffy
All the best!0 -
I think you're doing awesome
But would add my voice to those who are concerned for your wellbeing at the rate of loss
How are your bloods looking? If you haven't had a full workup get one
My recommendation would be keep up with the major commitment
Increase your protein to a minimum of 0.64g per lb bodyweight, fat to a minimum of 0.35g per lb bodyweight - increase your calories to a minimum of 1500 - probably more like 2000 TBH
Introduce some resistance work - bodyweight only based on your size - resistance helps preserve those wonderful muscles you've developed just by being overweight - you are going to lose some muscle with fat loss but you want to keep as much as you possibly can so that when that fat drops you have a good strong musculature. At this stage it would be inadvisable to add too much weight
look at you are your gym or nerdfitness.com bodyweight
you will be thankful you did
and keep on keeping on
you've got this - you just need to slow it down
Well said!0 -
295.4 this morning. First major goal hit. I see my pcp in a couple weeks, will reevaluate my calorie intake, probably going to be increasing more since I'm still losing too quickly.
Bloodwork was fine a few weeks ago, minus the RBC being too high, but that was there when I was heavy too, not really weight related. My other bloodwork came back fine, and I am getting another full workup when I see my doctor next friday.
It's just so hard now to eat more when I feel full. Plus I am working out even more becuase it feels so good when I work out. It's like an addiction to working out.
Still trying to find the balance, but so far I am happy with where I am at, and I feel great.2 -
291.3 today. Hope to get in the 250-260 range by my birthday May 4th.1

Awesome! You're doing amazing being so consistent & dedicated to your goals.
I'm glad the loss rate is slowing, as other stated previously it was a bit high. 4-5 pounds in a week is still high but you're doing incredible. Keep if up!!0 -
286.8 this morning. Officially past the 100lb barrier. Seeing my PCP tonight. Actually looking forward to stepping on the scale tonight. I know i will be a few lbs heavier cause it will be after I've eaten breakfast and lunch and I'll have clothes on... that being said I'm sure he will be happy with my progress. Hoping that we can have a discussion about a plan to get me off my blood pressure medication soon.
Also will go over my recent bloodwork tests which from what I could read looked pretty good, nothing high, nothing out of the ordinary, but we shall see.1 -
Great job!!! I've been following your story since you started.0

Did you ever think you'd say that and mean it
Excellent commitment ...keep it up0 -
Love that you keep updating this thread. I've been around MFP for a while now, and so many come in and quickly disappear.1

Back from the doctors. My bloodwork was all excellent. He was very happy with my progress. Blood pressure is almost in normal ranges. He suggested to up my calorie intake a bit more since I'm exercising so much and he feels I will still see good progress. Go back in 3ish months for another followup to check in.1

282.4 this morning. Probably lost an extra pound just cause I was sick for a day and a half and didn't eat much, but still trending downwards so I'm happy about that.2
