Has anyone heard of a neighborhood where they don't want you to jog/run in it?

Since when is there a curfew for getting mail and jogging? I often get home from work after 10pm, is that too late for me to get my mail or did I make the cut?
Back on point though, this thread is baffling. At first I thought the OP was just being patently absurd but then it occurred to me that maybe her paranoia is coming not from the man in particular but perhaps because she's had issues with the HOA before (or has heard stories about ridiculous rules being enforced)?
I have a relative who has had multiple run ins with their HOA about very nitpicky stuff. For example, they got repeated warnings about having a boat on their property that was "improperly stored". The boat was under a carport, because in the rules it says boats need to be "covered". Well apparently a carport isn't good enough, because you can still...see the boat. Really dumb, especially since it was a nice custom carport AND a nice freakin' boat!
So many people so bad at MFPing....0 -
tiny_clanger wrote: »Yep - there's a place in my local area where they don't like "outsiders". It's a very, very posh area (roads gated off to cars, £multi-million houses) and you get a lot of disapproving and suspicious looks for running or walking through, as well as lots of signs warning about neighbourhood watch and CCTV. But the roads have a lovely surface, the terrain is just hilly enough to be a challenge, the area is beautiful, the houses are gorgeous and I'm a socialist at heart, so I take great pleasure in running through the area as much as possible Oh, and being super polite to everyone I meet, saying excuse me as I pass, thanking them if they move out of my way. It really riles them!!!
There are important differences between neighborhoods with HOAs, neighborhood with restrictive covenants (CC&Rs) and private, gated communities. If the neighborhood you describe is the latter and the roads themselves are privately maintained then you are trespassing on private property- it's not different from running through someone's yard and you could be arrested for it if the locals get riled enough and the police want to play along. On the other hand, if they are public rights of way, then passing through as you are is perfectly fine whether or not the people living in that area like it.
ETA: Note that laws vary by state and locality.

Ask your boyfriend to come with you once(at a distance behind in eye sight) and when the guy does the same thing he can run up to him and ask what's going on here. I remember on the news once where a woman was raped by a guy in a wheelchair. Don't be upset with the neagitive replies, Do what I suggested and keep doing you're thing

Do what you suggested ... have her boyfriend confront someone in a freaking wheelchair at 11pm for also freely moving about outside. Herp de derp.
well, i run at 4am, 11pm isn't that much of a stretch if that's the time you have to do it.

I don't blame you. I think intuition and wisdom told you the best way to deal with the hoa guy was to keep going. You learn quickly, and next time you'll think twice about the forums, as well.
Word to the wise: people who insert "assume" into a pleasant conversation are looking to argue. Life is full of occasions where we use wisdom and intuition to avoid the time and expense of dealing in certainties. Presidents of homeowners organizations have a well-earned reputation, as well as many who lurk these forums. Blessings to all!

Since he was in a power chair, he most certainly could have caught up to you if that was his intent. Yeah there are two kinds. Condo associations where the fees you pay in pay for maintenance, electricity, landscaping, etc. for the common areas and homeowner associations where you pay for some minor wanna be dictator to tell you when your lawn needs mowing or you took too long shoveling snow.0 -

Post office does not allow them in many areas. Many neighborhoods cannot even have individual mailboxes, there is one central one for every 4-6 homes (each home had their own locked section in the general mailbox). Apartments and condos usually have a whole bank of them out by the street. I lived in an apartment complex that had one box, with individual locked sections, for every 12 apartments.

But Miracle On 34th Street taught me that the post office is mandated to deliver the mail to the addressed person! Please don't say it fibbed (or that Santa doesn't exist) :-(0 -

Also possible he liked to watch your bum as you run....
I also think it would be illegal for them to forbid you access to a public area for something that doesn't harm anything.
If you were running on the wrong side of the road or if you were running on the road when a sidewalk was available, that would be illegal. But not the running itself.0 -

Oh they are. However, they can dictate the receptacle for that delivery. (and yes, Santa IS real)0 -

I'm guessing if she lost a $1M check she would find it/get it replaced. If she really wanted to know the rules she could find them.0 -

How about you call your HOA and ask if the rules are on their website, and if not, pickup another copy? While you've got them on the phone, ask them directly if there are any rules about running.0 -

Ya, as an avid gardener, I'd never live in a place with a HOA that could potentially tell me what I could and could not plant. (My former boss's HOA had these sorts of rules.)0 -

i had a family member's HOA have rules about no cars not parked in the garages and no boats parked on driveways0 -

Haha I was going to say exactly the same thing about my 6mph chair! I wanted a sticker for such a long time that read "if you can't walk at 4mph don't try to step in front of me". (4mph is legal limit on pavements here).
Please define pavement. I do find this fairly comical BTW.
You can run on the grass though. Pavement would normally include concrete as well as asphalt... so wouldn't that mean cars can't go faster?0 -

Friend lived an area with a HOA. The HOA wouldn't let a guy put a basket in the driveway for his kids, against the rules. To get back at them he painted his house day glow pink (no rule against that).0 -

Silly HOA. I'd expect house color rules to be the # 1 rule.0 -
LOL!!! This is hilarious.
Common sense isn't too common these days. Has anyone ever been told they can't jog in the neighborhood they pay HOA fees in? I'm curious.
Reminds me of a paranoid friend I had, who came to visit and tells me, "that car has been following me for a long time". When I looked to see the car, it was parking across the street, because it was my neighbor. LOL!
The OPs boyfriend knows how to deal with his woman... wait till they tell you something sweetheart. lol!

People do get sexually assaulted by people they know. Just because she knows him, doesn't mean that he means her no harm. I'm not saying that he did want to harm her, but saying she knew him is not a good enough reason to not be wary of him.0 -
Not reading to the end of this thread.
