Ha-ha! I feel ya. My PB is 30:03.

Planning for the up coming race- I'd work the race in my routine running schedule, with at least on extra rest day. Stay hydrated, dont eat crazy. Well, maybe some pie. Pie is always good running food. But cheesecake is better..

    2/20: 8.5 miles

Jogged a mile up to the coffee shop where my Saturday group gets warm drinks post-run. I was going to run solo and end my run there, but I woke up with an awful headache, so I took ibuprofen and went back to sleep for an hour instead. Got a latte, chatted for a bit, and then did most of the route I'd planned last night, which ended up being 7.5 miles.

Though I've got to say, I should NOT drink espresso before a run ever again! I'm ok with a cup of coffee before a long run, but the espresso made me feel like I was going too fast and too slow all at once. I stabilized after the first 2 miles, but those first miles were weird (and much too fast!).

Excited for my long run tomorrow... weather today was in the mid to high 40s, and tomorrow should be the same temps when I head out. Perfect capri + short-sleeve weather! Though I felt quite naked leaving without a headband and neck warmer and jacket, etc. etc. But it was also so liberating!

Gasparilla 15k ended up going a bit better than expected, as it was my first time racing that distance. Ended up finishing in 1:01:59 (6:39/mile pace, 89th/5,500, 15th age group) as I was comfortable at that pace, and only dropped about 5 sec/mile for the second half. Although my weight was about 5 pounds over my marathon weight, at the shorter distance it didn't seem to affect me as much. Back to hosting guests for the rest of the weekend.

2/1 - 4 miles (up/down part of Park City mountain through 2 feet of powder)
    2/2 - 5.5 miles
    2/3 - 1 miles (pre lifting warmup)
    2/4 - 10 miles (7 mile tempo run + 3 recovery)
    2/5 - 5 miles
    2/6 - 10 miles
    2/8 - 9 miles
    2/9 - 12 miles (w. 3x15 min @ 7:15/mile pace w. 90 sec recovery)
    2/10 - 5 miles
    2/11 - 12 miles (8 miles speedwork + 4 mile late recovery run)
    2/12 - 1 mile (pre lifting warmup)
    2/13 - 10 miles
    2/15 - 4 miles
    2/16 - 5 miles (threshold run w. 3 @ 7 pace in middle)
    2/17 - 10 miles
    2/18 - 5.5 miles (w. 10x0.25 repeats @ 5:30/mile w. 30 sec recovery)
    2/20 - 15k race (6:39 pace, 89/5500)

    Total: 118 miles
    Goal: 180 miles
    Remaining: 62 miles

    Upcoming Races:
    Half Ironman - Florida 70.3 - Apr 10
    Marathon - Pittsburgh - May 1
    Half Ironman - Augusta 70.3 - Sep 25
Marathon - Chicago - Oct 9 (if accepted)
    Ironman - Florida - Nov 5

About two-weeks into my foot-injury-inspired running hiatus, I discovered that when I wore my Brooks Pureflows walking around, I was just about pain free (this is some sort of neuroma under the ball of my left foot), so I decided to try an easy run today in those and I'd call it a qualified success. I'll see what a mix of shorter runs and these shoes will accomplish.

In other great news, I hit my 25 pound weight loss goal this AM! This started last July with my first MFP Monthly Running Challenge, and about 3 months in I combined that with a more paleo, processed-sugar-free diet, and got to where I wanted to be. Not Reality TV weight loss, but I think it will last!

@Orphia - Congrats on the 5k PR! I understand the frustration of progress towards the 30 minute barrier. You are closer than I am though!

As for the 8.6k you should be able to do it with people around you and an official finish line ahead of you. I wouldn't try and run any harder or longer this week, j7st do as planned but take one or two days off before the run.

@kristinegift - I've never had espresso before a run. Sounds like something I won't try after hearing that.

@Ohhim - Sounds like it went very well, congrats!

10 miles this morning. My legs felt a little slow and the last half felt a little more tiring than it probably should have, so I was expecting to have a slow average time. My average pace wound up being right smack where I wanted it though once I finally looked at things when it was all over. My goal of a 2:30:00 half is very much in sight!

    2/1 - 4 miles
    2/2 - 4.3 miles
    2/4 - 4 miles
    2/6 - 11.1 miles
    2/8 - 9.5 miles
    2/10 - 4.5 miles
    2/12 - 5.3 miles
    2/14 - 9.2 miles
    2/15 - 4 miles
    2/16 - 4 miles
    2/17 - 4.3 miles
    2/18 - 4 miles
    2/20 - 10 miles

    78.2 of 100 miles

Ran 5k yesterday and no pain in my knee.. Not even a niggle! I took the inserts out as I didn't have enough bandaids left for my arches.. Just ran at my usual pace and no problems! I know that my hip probably does need work - The fact that I look really uncomfortable when I run (like Igor!) But I am thinking, could it just be that that's the way I run? I am still getting the Brooks for my birthday.. I do need that extra arch support (and the iserts I bought seem to be really big in the arch area, not sure why) So the Brooks will help there I'm sure.. But maybe my hip has always been like this and I only noticed it because I pushed myself too fast at Parkrun? The first time I had any knee pain was straight after Parkrun... Before that, I had run many 10kms, 13km and even one 15km with no more than a bit of shin splints (which aren't too bad now anyway)... Then I do one fast 5k and my knee felt like it was about to collapse on me. I've only been running once a week since... Though yesterdays run was the first run without pain entirely. So... How do you run parkrun and not push yourself to the point of agony? I didn't even get this pain after my 10k race back in October .. So I must have really pushed myself this time eh?

Most scary thing out running when it is still dark - spiderweb across the path at head height with a big, fat spider in it. Especially when you don't see the web before you have run through it. Then you're freaking out, trying to pull web off your face and work out if there is a huge spider on you somewhere. I have been known to turn around and run the other way if I see a big web across the path.

Next scariest thing - dogs. If I see a dog ahead in the distance on the street, without its owner, I turn right around and run the other way.

I have also been attacked by birds - I must have been running close to their nest, and maybe they had some little ones they were protecting; but they were these big ground dwelling birds, mainly black with a red crest and blue breast and a hooked beak, and they came after me snapping at the backs of my legs. I ran a bit faster. My husband has been attacked by a duck while out running.

And that's not to mention magpies that swoop during spring when they are nesting. Oh, and the occasional snake on the path, too.

I have to say that the kangaroos never attack. Even if they are as big as me, they just watch me go by.

And the water dragons!! At the lake where I do some of my shorter runs they can be up to 2 feet long.. They run onto the path right in front of you and nearly cause you to break your ankles trying to jump over them! Once I had my music up so loud I must have screamed when a big one actually ran out onto the path and towards me - Everyone on the path at either end heard me and turned to watch lol

I've even had a baby one run up and bite my toe once when I was wearing sandals.. Couldn't get it off my foot! It didn't hurt.. Just looked strange having my whole toe in it's mouth while I kicked madly to get rid of it lol

    @ohhim - congrats on race!
    @elise4270 - I love my orange shirt!
@WhatMeRunning - I'm going to KC to be an AP Reader in June. Planning on running every morning before sitting and grading AP exams for 8 hours a day. Is it nice/safe to run around downtown KC? I've been looking at maps of downtown, even though it's 4 months away. It's the second week in June so it looks like weather will be nice.

@runner_girl83 - water dragons!!! I tell you this is a scary place. But in reality, we should all be scared of crazy humans more than all these animals, I suppose. yep, been reading the Gift of Fear that @7lenny7 recommended and now I'm scared. What a gift. In a way it was nice to be oblivious. But not done with it yet.
