@kristinegift - good luck this weekend!
Had a great day until I was rear ended on the way home. Car is undrivable because the back window is shattered (Prius). I had my bike rack on and that got bent into the back window. Deja Vue - I was also rear ended in October. Sigh. The good news is I'm fine.
March 1 - 5.05 miles + 1 hour spinning
March 2 - strength training
March 3 - 5K for Orlando City Soccer (not sure why they need $) + 1 mile warmup
March 4- strength training
March 5 - 43 mile bike ride (went 9 more than the usual 34 mile Sat ride).
March 6 - 51 mile bike ride
March 7 - 5 miles
March 8 - recovery/rest day
March 9 - 5.1 miles + strength training
March 10 - 5.02 miles
March 11 - strength training

RE: Foam Rolling and stretching
Foam rolling is very good. I need to do it some more. I used to do it on a regular basis and it always relaxed and stretched the muscles. I complimented it with the yoga for runners that I used to do all the time too.
As far as stretching before and after a run. Dynamic stretching before a run and static stretching after a run.

At work, I do have a tennis ball and have been known to sit on it and roll it around. I used to have my own private cube and could get away with this, and now they moved me over into a cube that I share with a partner. So I have to wait till he leaves. hahaha
I just sat on the tennis ball today! Pure magic ha! I sometimes use it on my shoulder back area too, but have to be careful, seems a fine line between helping that area and making it much worse for me.0 -

I did my first half this morning. It was the happiest run I think I’ve ever done!!! The run was for Cancer awareness.. Although not a happy subject, I think it made me run better – knowing I ‘needed’ to do it. And my right knee (my good knee!) started having issues at 13km, at which I started having walk breaks. I found that running on flat ground was fine, though the slightest incline or decline and the pain would really flare up so I walked all hills and ran the flats really slow. Physio this week woohooo!
I have been drinking more water and eating more carbs the last few days, adding bits of pasta as sides, breadrolls and even had pizza for dinner last night I had fuel (Winner's Gel) at 9km and then another at 13km (I would have had it a bit later though I knew I wouldn't pass another water fountain for 4-5km) I also mapped out a route that went past the toilet block a few times which was good. I got my water bottle from my car around the 17km mark, filled it at a water fountain nearby and carried that for the rest of the run. Have to say I feel fantastic (aside from the knees occassionally having a niggle - but I know I pushed them so I can live with that!)
Luckily, I also put a whole new soundtrack on my phone last night, ramped up with good hits from the 80’s! Running along to INXS “Kick” .. and Deff Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” Should have seen me dancing!!!! hahaha
I was a little down, I was aiming to do it under 2:50 though only being 3 mins over is pretty good. I think if I hadn’t had so much trouble with my knee I would have smashed it and that’s fine.. I just wanted to see how I would go so I can’t complain! My first half is done! So, so glad I did it!!
Now to eat a feast!!

I would rather it was me with diabetes, but it's my 19-year-old autistic son. We are just starting to get our feet under us, but until he's back in school full-time, I'm on a "run when I can, which isn't often" schedule. I've sadly been so busy with that and some emotional/school stuff for my 17 year old that I let my other kids get behind in their schoolwork, too...so we're all a mess here! We have spring break coming up in a couple of weeks--I'm hoping that will be the reset we need to get our act together!
The Disney run and trip was a blast, though. I didn't take very many pictures, sadly. This is my favorite of myself, though. "I am not fast, but I am strong!":
Sorry to hear about everything you are going through! That is a lot to deal with!! You are being a really great mum though - Your son is very lucky to have you School holidays are just around the corner here too.. A few more weeks and the kids are on holidays for 2 weeks over Easter.0 -
Wow! 26 pages?!? No way I am going to be able to catch up with that. Will try in the next day or two.
My MIL passed away last Thursday. Between going to see her just before, helping with arrangements and then the visitation / funeral, no time to keep up and very few opportunities to run.
I am so behind on this thread,, can't believe I missed this! Really sorry about your MIL! That's extremely sad news. I hope you and your wife are surrounded by a lot of family and friends x0 -

@5BeautifulDays: I'm with you on the speed thing. I seem to be able to pace myself and push myself harder on a treadmill. Out in the real world, I get super frustrated that I cannot run nearly the same as I do indoors.
@runner_girl83: Good luck on your half! Let us know how those gels work for you. I've never heard of them - I'm interested. I haven't quite found an energy source I love, yet. I like the taste of the Cliff gels and the nut butter ones the best, but I find their icing/peanut butter-like consistency make it hard to eat on the run and they leave me super thirty because they stick to the inside of my mouth. I've been using the PowerBar gels because they go down easier, but I'm not really a fan of their taste and the upset my stomach, sometimes.
Hey the gels worked well! I am thinking maybe it is because of them that I feel so well after my run? I don't feel sick like I sometimes do after running 10k and yet I doubled that distance today! I liked them a lot!0 -

I walked the relay for life last july, a month after my dad passed from stomach cancer. It felt like the most important walk of my life! Next year I will be able to run it.0 -

3/12- 3.1 (18.31/35) Started off bad. Bumped/hit a deer on my way to run. Stopped and didn't see the deer anymore and no damage to my car, so I continued on my way. Realized I forgot my hat, but my jacket was thankfully in my back seat. Run felt amazing. Occasionally sang to myself when I felt like I was speeding up so I wasn't spent by the end and it turned out I don't need a hat if it's about 30f so that was good. Now I'm looking forward to breakfast and teaching yoga

Total- 28.19/56.
Morning run was first time going 10k or farther, and, obviously a new distance PR for me. Still too fast for training, at 10:37/mile, but a lot closer to where I should be training. This was a personal test, to do a "half of a half" and it went great. It was the confidence booster I needed to know that training for the September half Marathon is within my ability (I know it's more than enough time to train, but I tend to think things are beyond me.....personality defect)0 -

The sub-22 min 5k is on the books! Came in at 21:55! I was hoping for something closer to 21:30, but reminded myself that until about 2 days ago, sub-22 was the main goal for today. I always self-sabotage by making my goal harder and harder as the day nears, then get mad when I don't hit the newest/hardest goal. Which is silly and I really need to stop doing that. But I did hit my other goals. I was not top 3 women overall, but I was #1 in the 20-29 women's age group, I was 6th woman overall, and I was 36 out of 425 finishers! I will take it with a smile on my face! I got a cool hat as my AG win award and it kept my head warm on the drive home.
A bit of race analysis: my first and last miles were solid and on-pace (6:46 downhill and 7:00 down and flat). It was my second mile that killed me: a long, gradual uphill that resulted in a 7:20. I'd been banking on a 6:55-7:00 mile there, and a 6:50 or faster for the last mile. Oh well! I made the mistake of wearing the shoes that I usually use for speedwork on the treadmill, and they just killed my shins on the pavement. I've worn them outside before, and half the time it's fine and half the time it's uncomfortable. Today they went for the discomfort direction. My shins were almost cramping for the last mile or so. I abandoned my cool down post-race because I was afraid my shins would start cramping for real, so I just walked around and ate a bagel and cheese-beer soup instead and waited for awards.
Overall: beautiful day to race, ultimately hit the goals I (originally) set for myself and gosh darn it, I WILL be happy about how I performed today!

I was happy to finish my 12 mile long run at under 12:00/mile today putting me where I want to be in training to be ready for a 2:30:00 or faster HM this year. Then I saw that I set a number of PR's; 10k, 15k and 10 mile! So a very good run today overall.

03/05: PLAN: 4 easy miles. 4.67 miles total (4 miles easy plus 4 :20 strides.) 44 degrees, mist-light rain.
03/06: PLAN: 6 easy miles. About 45 degrees, slight wind. 6.03 miles. Two walk intervals (¼ mi. ea.), pretty good for “dead” legs.
03/07: PLAN: REST DAY (and I’m-a take it!)
03/08: PLAN: 4 miles plus strides. Stuffed face and got lazy.
03/09: PLAN: REST DAY Wanted to do yesterday's run but ate first and got lazy. Sigh.
03/10: PLAN: 5 easy miles Not up early enough, 3.28 miles@11:03 in light rain, mid 50s temp.
