@MNLittleFinn - No two are alike when it comes to comfort in cold temps, but I have found 36 degrees to be the point where I do best in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. For long runs a hat and thin gloves are needed if the sun isn't out. If it's windy though I might go shorts and long sleeve.

There are many others who need pants and long sleeves at that temp though.

I'm starting to think a lighter ling sleeve shirt is in order. Having the jacket is entirely for wind breaking, the wind is what always gets me. I could probably go with shorts though...and I need to ditch the socks I'm wearing,.....way too warm, and go with my light weight no shows.

Picture from the finish line of today’s race- the Excalibur 10 Miler! My mom and I went to this race together, and I made us cute little matching princess outfits so that was a lot of fun. I went into this race with the goal of finishing under 1:20 (8:00 min/mile); my official time was 1:19:39 (7:58 pace) so I’m happy to say I met my goal! I also finished 2nd in my age group, which was pretty exciting because my award was an excalibur letter opener!!! Overall, I am incredibly pleased with how I did! The 4th and 5th miles were on a (loosely packed) dirt road; I slowed down a bit because my calves were really suffering. Wasn’t sure I’d be able to make up for the lost time, but I managed to speed up quite a bit and do the last mile in 7:24. I had just enough energy for a little kick at the end! Though once I crossed the finish line, I started dry heaving and could barely walk so I know I definitely gave it everything I had haha

@ddmom0811 - the space coast HM is a really awesome race! This will be my 4th year doing it (I live in Chicago but grew up in the Tampa area. My parents still live there so I like to do races with my mom when I visit!). Sadly, it's such a great race that registration fills within the first 15-20 minutes of opening, so you wouldn't be able to get in for this year. I'd definitely recommend looking into it for next year though! Really great course, the goody bags are pretty awesome, and it's right along the water.

Wow, happy birthdays and grats on first marathons and halfs and PR's and so much awesomeness going on! This thread was fun in the winter, but I can see that it's going to be great over the summer too!

I signed up for my first race! I decided not to go for the HM, I can always sign up for that another year when I'm a little more experienced. So all I'm signed up for is the 5k. Its a part of a world record attempt too, the most people running a race wearing a kilt :) I thought I missed the deadline to sign up, but was so relieved to see I didn't!

My hip is still squawking at me, not sure what to do.

Today I ran the 10 miler Relay team for the Excalibur. I was the second half and did my 5 miles in 53 minutes. I stuck to my intervals, because I didn't want to tire myself out. Usually I run until I can and stop and walk. It worked great and I loved it. I know I can up it for next time. We took 60th out of 128 teams for the co-ed relay.

@ddmom0811 Keep an eye out for next year for the space coast half. There are still spots available for the full...

new to this forum, but training for my first 1/2 marathon. I have fought a nasty viral infection for the last two weeks. Still have the hacking cough and find I am about 2 weeks back on my training schedule. Hoping to get a good week in this week

@kristinegift Happy Birthday :) great run!

Today I did 5 miles. Wasn't sure how that was gonna go because I never ran right after strength training. 1 mile warm up run. 1.5 miles of intervals (7:30ish pace on the 5 fast parts). 2.5 more miles. All averaged out to 10 min miles. It's been cold here again which means I'm constantly stopping to blow my nose :)

Race report: I have not trained well due to my son's recent cancer diagnosis, so I had three goals: 1. finish 2. finish upright 3. Don't finish last. I finished....barely. Upright....barely (having passed out 500 yards from the finish and triggering the medical staff response. And not last (there were 2 behind me.)
And so now I am off for the next week to spend some quality time with my son who has completed brain surgery, 4 cyberknife brain radiation sessions, and starts experimental immunotherapy in two week. Lots of cards, hugging....but won't be running much!

Congrats to all who ran this weekend: some great pictures, and happy birthday @kristinegift

    Total 59.32

    Upcoming races:
3/20 Big Island International 1/2 marathon
    6/26 SHEPower Virtual 1/2 marathon

@honunui prayers for your son and hugs for you. You both are in my thoughts.

Great job everyone racing this weekend.

Yesterday Skip had a track meet and Coach wanted her to pick one race, she picked the 800 and PR'd with a 2:49 and won her heat. It's the first time she scored points for her team and won her heat so she was thrilled. She was passed coming out of the 4th turn (again) and started an awesome kick and beat the girl by over second.

Did no running this weekend, track meets are a 8 hour ordeal and today Skip and I are having a stay in our jammies and hang out Netflix binging day  Honestly Allen left for another overseas assignment and I'm missing him.

March total to date – 185.68

Expected March total - ~282 miles

Today's notes – The good news is, my ankle is letting me run and didn't complain about 22 miles yesterday. The bad news is, the ankle still isn't 100% and it wouldn't be wise to do challenging speed work. That makes this week a bit of a puzzle. Today's assignment was 30 minutes at E. But I'm not going to be running the Yasso 800's that are Tuesday's assignment, and getting the weekly miles in around the assigned workouts looks tricky. So . . . I ignored the 30 minute limit, and set out to run 7 easy miles this afternoon. I know this should not be a problem after a 22 mile run, because the earlier weeks in the program called for 90 or 60 minutes the day after a 22 mile run. Ended up running 7.39 miles in 59:25; if I'd been looking at the watch when I got back to my driveway, I would have kept running to be 60 minutes. Oh, well. Close enough, and 3 more miles makes the week easier to work with.

I'm thinking there's a 50/50 chance I'll be able to run Thursday's speed work assignment. It's not a lot of real fast running, but it is long: 3 miles at E, 2 x (4 miles at MP, 1 mile at T), 2 miles at E. I did this once earlier in the training program, and it is challenging; if the ankle isn't up to that challenge by Thursday, it's likely I won't get 15 miles in that day and I'll have miles to make up somewhere else. That was in the back of my mind when adding 3 miles today; now I'm kind of on track to "only" have to adjust for the possibility that I don't run the full distance Thursday.

No more 22 mile runs, and no more 68 mile weeks between now and Patriot Day. The challenges will be getting the ankle to be healthier, and living with the taper crazies.

    Upcoming races:
March 26, 2016 Spring Forward Distance Run 15K (Mendon, NY)
April 18, 2016 Boston Marathon (Hopkinton, MA)
April 24, 2016 Flower City Challenge Half Marathon (Rochester, NY)

was doubly pleasing as after passing 5k I never lost myself in the run. I had to fight for every yard.

    @CivicSista Congratulation on the race!
@rune1990 Fist bump! Nothing cooler than your first race. Glad you signed up!

    Great running today!
I'm sure there are others and I can't seem to navigate from the desktop through pages and not lose my post. I like my new phone, but it has a glass cover on it that isnt flush and doesnt make texting easy... might be $40 wasted.

I thought I saw a newbie training for their first half! Welcome

    20160320_183148_zps1nqhwiru.jpg

Race Bling. I'll forgo a real race report. I'll just fuss. It really was a win for me, I just cant seem to get over the people traffic.. end that there. or I'll grumble.. But it was really cool. They closed part of the highway in downtown Dallas, we ran up the ramp and over a very high section. Lots of folks stopped and took pics from up there. I put myself in the 2:40 finish group, so really serves me right for all the traffic. SO, Ill note that when I schedule a race 6 months out from now on. When I registered, I wasn't sure where I'd be with the injury or training. But, lucky for me I have advice training and that helped me immensely. I just kept channeling Kara Goucher the last 4 miles. Mile 11 my legs said WTF (Where's The FINNISH?).

After the race we ate at reunion tower, was pretty cool. For all ya'll not familiar- that's the tall building with the ball on top in Dallas TX. The restaurant and cafe (where we 8) revolves and there are glass windows. long drive home. Think next year, I'll stay here an run the A2A

Division place was 247/666, gender 2418/5755, overall 4938/9538

@ddmom0811 the music was alright. I didn't stay for the headliner. It was cold and we has a time crunch getting back to the hotel and out by check out. I'd do it again. Right now it's 50$ for the HM next year for early registration.

After having a busy weekend I've been unable to go for a walk for a couple of days. Tonight I was feeling like I needed to go for a walk but the last couple of times I walked alone at night I really spooked myself and now I just don't feel like it's a nice walk instead I'm tense for the whole hour. Anyway still wanting to "move" I have just finished walking on the spot for an hour and a half and the app on my phone "lifelog" has recorded my steps but also estimates that I have walked 7.6km. My question is, should I count it towards my goal of walking 50km this month? Or would that be cheating?
    Thanks

Last week was one to forget, it was a miserable one. Planned for at least an 8K long run and had to return after 1K. Still not able to understand why do I get exhausted so soon, at the end of 1K, I was getting all exhausted like I have been running for hours. Need to get this nourishment thing correct, I was out of energy.
Don't know if I will be able to finish the monthly target, next is the Easter week donno how much will I be able to run. need some long run to pull the spirits back.

    Bad run.. bad run... :'(
